Cross Trainer shoes

I run a couple times a week, so I use my Nike Shox for running, Cathe step and other videos and spin. I've read alot about the Ryka cross trainers. Does it make a big difference to have a cross trainer for aerobics vs a running shoe. Can people suggest a cross trainer. Does anyone use Nike or is Ryka better. Thanks, mary

I wear my running shoes for running only and my cross trainers for everything else where lateral support is needed. I don't think one brand is superior over another. I tried on all the brands available in-store and settled on a pair of Asics I've been quite happy with. I do have to say, though, when posts about shoes come up, I always say every foot is different, so it's tricky just going by others' recommendations. Good luck with your shoe shoppping!

I've been using New Balance cross trainers for the past couple of years and have been very happy with them.

I was told, by my FIL (big runner) to wear running shoes for running. So I do:) Apparently they are made different, special for running. I use my cross trainers for everything else. I wear Rykas only. But that's just me, I think its best to go to a running store and have someone help you pick out your best shoe for you.

Hi I think its best to have cross trainers for other activities when not running too.. You need the lateral support you get from a cross trainer that you don't get from a running shoe if you are doing step, kickboxing, or floor aerobics.

That being said, if I am going to the gym and can't decide what cardio I am going to do that day, I'll wear my running shoes to do either the stair mill or the arc trainer if a treadmill run isn't sounding too appealing. I think running shoes are OK for those type of activities where your foot isn't moving in a side to side motion very much and they are fairly stable.

Take care, Lynn M.
