Credit card security! scary!

I got a call from the Security and Fraud division of Bank of America yesterday to check on some charges on my visa card. Someone in France was apparently buying things over the internet using my Visa number! They had made about 6 purchases, 2 of them for postage in Paris! The guy told me that this type of thing flags the card to them and that is why he called me.. they had already put a block on my card. I thought something was funny when I got an e-mail the other day from a poster company in England thanking me for registering with their site and telling me my package would be sent to the address I put on the registration!

I guess your credit cards are really not as safe on the internet as you might think!:(

I absolutely agree! NOTHING you type on your computer is ever really safe. Keep in mind if someone wants something bad enough, they can find a way to get it.

Wow...so the card they used was one you used online? At least Bank of America blocked your card! I think most companies are good at that. I know my email prgoram blocks out alot of spam mail form other coutries...its awful you can't be safe...:)...Carole

My sister called me recently and told me she got an email from ebay asking for her credit card # and social security # or her account would be deactivated within a certain # of days. I told her DON"T do IT!!! She didn't but a few days later the bank called her and said someone was trying to use her credit card to get to romania or something. So she had to cancel her card and get a new #. Then, a day or so later, someone on ebay was trying to sell 2 sailboats using her as the seller. She had to change her ebay account. It's really scary! She doesn't have a lot of money. I wonder how they choose her. ???

I really understand you. I had bad experiences with my credit cards too.Someone bought ice creams using the numbers of my credit card and I had to cancel my credit card and get a new one.As the Laura's sister one day I got an email from my bank asking for my credit card or my account would be deactivated within a certain # of days.It was a trick.

I had a similar email from what looked like ebay. I contacted ebay directly & they asked that I forward all emails like that to them. Apparently they can trace these emails.

I used to use my debit card to buy things online (it's a MasterCard, fortunately), and someone ripped us off twice!! I'm not sure whether they got the number online (think they did, at least once), or just got the number from a receipt, since we use our debit card everywhere, grocery store, department stores, etc., but we were very lucky that MasterCard covered us both times (first time for $1500, second time for $900)...the thieves had charged stuff at Best Buys and places like that in different states and also had gotten into online gambling, so everytime they'd lose money it was withdrawn from our account and when they won it was deposited!! Luckily, I found out right away and was able to cancel the card! I never use my debit card online anymore and only use my credit card VERY sparingly...shouldn't even do that, probably.
