Creatine Questions

So for those of you that have experimented with creatine or know anything about it.. please clue me in!
I purchased this big tub of powder with a huge scoop in it of fruit punch creatine... tasted just like kool aid. It says to have after working out and morning/evening on non-workout days. Says you could also take two scoops a day for the first 5 days if you want, then down to one (I obviously would adjust the serving to my size, maybe cut the dosages in half at least).
Anyway, my boyfriend got this creatine/glutamine mix. It tasted like *** and I couldn't drink it. It said to have "6-8 hours before working out" and first thing in the morning.
So many different kinds and so many different rules.
Anyone used the stuff and know why there are so many versions?
I know how I use my protein.. a shake after (and sometimes before) a hard workout, no more than 35 g per any servings (anymore I get bloated real bad)... but I don't know how to use creatine?!
I remember reading about it in fitness magazines and hearing people sprinkling it on their cottage cheese and cereal.. but the two kinds I've tried you can't do that with!
Please let me know what you've done, what you know and what you've found :)

It's a supplement article and I found it very helpful. I take creatine in rotations, especially when I am lifting heavy. Some say it's good to take a break from it. I take it in 3 month time periods...lay off a while and then do it all over again. I think creatine is helpful with creating lean mass and with recovery.
