Crawfish in the middle of my yard

It is raining and there is a crawfish in my yard. I took the dogs out to do their business as I always get in some cardio chasing them around in our big yard and there it was....just in the grass. Away from any streams, etc. Stinky found it and decided to leave it alone right away. Smart dog! At first, I thought it was poop as it was almost the same color.
Well if I was a Louisiana Cajun Mama, I would have picked that thing up and got it ready for supper to put in my gumbo, but instead I just played with it for awhile.

How funny! I'm not sure I'd recognize a crawfish if I saw one - they're kind of shrimp-like, right?

So... how do you play with a crawfish? Throw sticks for it to fetch? Get out the Monopoly board? ;)

I was rubbing its back and then watched his front claws open up. LOL Seems like I was stimulating him. Oh, geez I need to get a life!!!!
O.k., I am off to workout now. LOL

Yeah, I have a problem with lobster myself. And if I spend any time on a farm with cows, I always feel bad about beef. Until someone serves me a sirloin, that is.

Charlotte -

My girlfriend and I "played" with a huge turtle we found on a bike trail one time but then changed our mind when the darn thing almost snapped off my finger!!!

  !!!

I once saw a slug when I went outside one night, and picked it up to look at it (accordiing to some looney woman on the Tonight Show years ago, slug slime has some healing properties). It either liked being picked up, or didn't like it, because it immediately poked one eye stalk out at me (the equivalent of either a middle finger--didn't like!--or a penis--liked!).

Gee Charlotte, good thing you weren't running around barefoot!!
I do that all too often in the yard.
i thought crawfish were supposed to be in water (hence the term "fish")
Poor thing was probably looking for it's home;(

Crawfish are very tasty! around here, they are sold seasonally. we put them in gumbo, etouffe (sp?) pies, stew, creole, all kinds of stuff. my favorite is simply boiled in red pepper with corn and red potatoes. you can eat pounds and pounds and your eyes water, but it's great!
