cookie dough for 3 weeks?!!

I just had to share this with some people who can understand my shock!:D My daughter had a fund raiser for band selling cookie dough (raw). I am not much into fund raisers - usually I just give a flat donation than buy some junk I don't want. This time my dd asked me to please buy one so she wouldn't be the only one that didn;t sell any.

Well, yesterday after school we picked up our tub. On the drive home dd exclaims "oh my gosh" in the back seat. On the lid it states that the dough can remain at room temperature for 21 days! Ugh!! We are all joking that if we eat it we may start glowing green from radiation or something. Can you imagine - 3 weeks at room temp?!! Marnie

I love cookie dough (which is why I can never make cookies!) but that sounds really gross! I hate to think about how many preservatives are in that! What a weird thing to have kids selling - not a great message about health and diet!

I'm very wary of 'foods' that don't go through a normal decomposition process (how can our bodies deal with them if bacteria other microorganisms have no interest in them?)

Did you ever see "Supersize Me"? The DVD has a bonus showing an experiment that was done with various McDonalds vs. home-style-restaurant products, put in a glass container so that the decomposition process could be viewed. The McDonald's fries still looked the same after 3 weeks (at which time, Morgan Spurlock's assistant threw everything out because everything else was disgusting and smelled really bad, even the restaurant fries).

Maybe the dough could be used as a temporary spackle for holes in walls?

Holy preservatives Batman! I'd be afraid to eat that! What brand is it? Most of the cookie dough I get from fund raisers state that they can only be refridgerated for 1 week and needs to be frozen to keep longer.

Wow. The stuff that my DD has sold in the past has to be refrigerated too, or frozen. And the ingredients list no preservatives. How awful. Room temperature for three weeks? That's crazy.

They switched companies this year. In the past it was Great American Cookie company or something like that - the one they sell in the malls. This year I think it is Prestige.

Yes, Kathryn, I have it on dvd. Whenever we start eating too much junk too regularly, we all sit down and watch it.

This stuff will probably "spackle" our intestines!

Is it dough or do you have to add water and mix it to make it dough?
I bought from a fund raiser once for the cookies and our was dry and we added water and maybe egg I don't remember.

Cookie dough is popular fund raiser as is the dollar candy bars.

I'm the step mom of a girl scout, so I have to buy girl scout cookies!!}(

It is dough - in a cool whip type container. I hear ya on the fundraisers. Seems like there is a never ending line of them! So far 2 mos. into the school year we have had gift wrap, coke cases, cookie dough, "spirit" chains (football spirit) and at least 2 others I can't recall!

I like Girl Scout cookies. They are so ridiculously expensive that I am no longer tempted to buy them.
Maybe you could sell the cookie dough at Home Depot....might be cheaper and more effective than caulk.
