Convince me I'm working out....

Hi everyone,

My first Cathe tapes were IMax, IMax2, BodyMax, MIC and MIS. Needless to say, I love them all and all these workouts left me a sweaty mess from head to toe. I mean I was totally drenched after these workouts. They left me feeling accomplished and invigorated.

This week I have been working on the Intensity series. I had posted earlier that I thought C&W was kinda easy. I did BootCamp on Wednesday (loved it) and did ME today.

I think I have finally figured it out. C & W and ME are both great workouts, but I am not drenched in sweat when I am finished so I don't feel as though I have worked out as hard as with my first Cathe tapes.

I know that I am working out differently. See, I have never done a pure weight training tape before these. I admit that sometimes I have to stop before Cathe and the gang are finished with their reps because I just don't have that strength yet. At one point Cathe said 'just 8 more to go' - and I said 'not me'! LOL!!!

So, convince me that I am still working out, and doing good work, as I obviously need to add strength training to my rotations.

Also, do you pure cardio on day (such as IMax-one of my favorites) and then pure weight the next? And so on and so on?

Of COURSE you're working out. I split my cardio & weights during the week & actually think it's a nice break to have the weight training on its own.

Also, you might not feel you're working out today, but you'll probably know it by tomorrow!

Hi, Oldfirmie! I do prefer to do cardio and strength on separate days and usually opt for a combo tape when I can't fit it in any other way. And yes, you did get a workout but those workouts are obviously not as challenging for you. You can use them when you want less or up the weights you use to make them more difficult. Doing cardio along with strength will usually get you more sweaty than strength alone although that's not true of all Cathe's strength workouts. :) And Bootcamp is the ultimate circuit training workout to my mind. Even so, I really prefer more minutes of cardio per session even if that workout kicks my butt every time. Having such a variety is beautiful but do you find you favor certain workouts and a particular way of doing them? I know I do. Give me a rousing cardio day followed by a tough strength training day and I am one happy camper.

For a while I did do the really intense cardio wokouts and then add on a hard upper or lower body strength training and talk about sweating like crazy. I followed that up by mellowing out and separating the days. There are so many ways to work out and I like to do different things at different times just for the heck of it. The important thing is doing something. I have recently gone from having to limit cardio to having to eliminate it until my foot is up to doing it again. I have stuck with strength and done yoga, yoga and more yoga:) I long for endorphins but it hasn't been all that bad considering there was a time when I would have thought it would drive me to madness! LOL!

ALSO...don't worry about the sweat. You ARE working out!! I sweat very little during heavy lifting, but have received much more muscle and definition via heavy weights. There was a time when I taught 12 classes of aerobics per day and sweat buckets and was a patheticly skinny girl, not much muscle definition at all. I'm finally building some muscle (slowly but surely) after 2 years of adding in heavy weights consistantly.

Thanks everyone...I feel much better.

Maximus...you are probably right...I'm sure tomorrow morning I will know that I worked my muscles today!

I think that I also need to keep a log of each exercise so that I know if I need to heavy up or lighten up next go around.

Thanks again,

Tammy
