combining cathe with.......

how do you all combine cathe strength tapes with your own gym workouts for those that workout at a gym?

I go to the gym 3X per week, which is where I do all my strength training. I usually go 2 nights a week after work & lift for about 1-1 1/4 hours, & on Sunday mornings when I do 40 minutes of cardio & about an hour of weight training (my split is legs/chest, back/bis, tris/shoulders).

I do cardio at home at least 4X a week, usually w/Cathe but also w/other instructors. This is done early in the morning before work.

Saturdays is my core day. I do a cardio workout that focuses on core, usually some kind of KB workout, & then a core DVD like core max (I also have one weighted ab workout I do each week at the gym, typically I superset it w/my bicep workout).

Sometimes I do circuit on Sat. instead of core, but usually it's strictly abs abs abs. :)

so is it possible to get the muscle building effects using cathe only at home or is it recommended to go to the gym as well? i know S&H and GS are meant for building but should we very the exercises for them (i own a bowflex). do some of you do your own stuff during a cathe workout and then jump back into following her routine????

Hi.

Lately I do most of my cardio at the gym and most of my weights at home with Cathe, Tony, Jari, etc.

What I will normally do is alternate weights and cardio so I will go to the gym only every other day. There are times when I do more cardio at home and then my gym trips will be even less frequent but again, this varies rotation to rotation.

I have tried using the machines at the gym numerous time but I HATE THEM! Just can't make myself like them so I've given up. I don't even bother anymore.

I truly believe you can get awesome results from lifting at home. You don't NEED a gym for that. I sure didn't! :)

thanks, i'm just going to focus on lifting heavier and really challegne myself. do some of you not follow cathe's rep pattern if your lifting heavier and can't keep up with her pace?

I do a variety of cardio, almost no Cathe in the summer when I skate and swim. I do all of my lifting with Cathe at home and have seen great results. I think it depends on what you want.

I don't know. One of the reasons I stick w/the gym is b/c I can lift much heavier weights there thanks to the machines. For example, I can squat about 170 lbs on the smith machine, but there's no way I'd be able to get a 170 lb barbell off the floor, over my head & onto my shoulders.

I tried Butts & Gutts & it was 2X as long as my gym routine & probably half as effective for muscle building (but probably twice as effective for muscle toning, if that makes sense).

Part of it depends on your goals, part on what you enjoy. If you truly want to build muscle IMO the gym is essential. If you're looking to tone then it's totally unnecessary.

On the other hand, I've seen some home exercisers on this forum who're in much better shape than I am, so maybe I'm just full of it.
:p
