I received a letter yesterday from Newberry College which I am an alum. I'll highlight it:
In 2005 NCAA imposed sancations against colleges/universities with Native American nicknames because they were offensive including not being able to host post season playoff games. NC appealed was denied.
Several others contested the ruling including University of North Dakota.
Several other colleges/universities have partnerships including: Florida State Seminoles, Central Michigan University Chippewas, the University of Utah Utes aand Catwaba College Catawba Indians. These were accepted.
Anyway NC does not have a "nickname or mascot."
Anyway this is the highlights of this letter, so I need your input, please.
Being part Cherokee and Seminole, I thought it was appropriate and ironic that I graduated from Newberry College. I am favoring Newberry College Cherokees. Any ideas/suggestions/opinions.

What Do You Think? Choosing Nickname instead of Indians....
Newberry College should choose a new nickname.
NC can be "Newberry College" without nickname.
NC should partner with a Native American Tribe to become NC________ Indians.*
