Clone Meats..........

Hi Shelley,

Reason asking, a friend told me he seen it in the store, don’t know how true this is. Me, I’m not for it. I printed out the article to read, thanks

It's not in stores yet - the FDA is still considering approval. I, for one, will never buy any product from anything cloned. yuck

...if only they would demand labeling so that those who buy meat could actually know if it was cloned or not! x( x( x( The whole thing just makes my stomach turn. x( x( What the heck will they think of next??? And if it is so expensive, then why the heck do it?

It scares me that the FDA doesn't think it is going to be necessary to label cloned meat/dairy products. They say there is no difference in the labaratory, but how do we know what the effects are in the human body. I'm not much for being a guinea pig. Who knows what the long term effect of eating cloned products will be. (I keep thinking about things like Mad Cow disease :-( )

If I can (ie. if is labeled), I will avoid purchasing cloned meat/dairy products!

JMHO!

Cloned meat does not appeal to me. If they do not label which meat is cloned, we will probably stop eating meat altogether. I already follow an almost meat-free diet, but I know that DH will not want him or the kids to eat cloned meat.

speaking strictly as a scientist and not as much of a meat-eater:

cloned meat is meat, just like meat that comes from any other animal. I'm not so sure that I understand the outrage. After all, would you freak out if you knew that you were eating a cow that happened to have an identical twin? cloning means they share the exact same dna. so do identical twins. keep in mind also that most animals slaughtered for meat come from what are essentially genetically selected, 'inbred' lines to produce the largest animal you can get for the price of raising/feeding it. doesn't inbreeding creep you out too?
I'd be more worried about all the hormones and antibiotics that are fed to consumed animals, not to mention that rampant reports of animal mistreatment.

This is why every year we decided to order our own full cow my hubby knows the gentlemen that feeds them and hubby visits often > We are going to go for chickens and a pig the end of this year along with our first attempt to go down South to get our seafood and bring it back on dry ice. We have saved a lot of money on just the cow and we know it is raised and fed healthy.

a clone is just a later born identical twin

there is nothing tainted or weird about it anymore than there is anything tainted or weird about a child conceived through in vitro fertilization.

fear of cloning is a meme from 50's-70's science fiction, it has no basis in reality
