Since so many of you seemed interested in the "5 minute theory" I wrote about yesterday, I thought I would give you more of an explaination...

From The New Rules of Lifting for Women, "Step Away from the Treadmill", page 27......

(he starts off by describing why he wants you to do intervals instead of steady state cardio)

"Now, if you actually enjoy endurance exercise, and would miss it if you couldn't do any, we don't want to discourage you from that. But Alwyn has come up with a unique way of making it more effective.

You'll do intervals first, to work off some of the glycogen in your muscles. Then you'll step off the track or the treadmill or get off the bike or out of the pool. That is, you'll stop altogether for five minutes. And then you'll get back on or in and so some steady-pace exercise at an easy pace.

Why bother? Because after you stop exercising, your body will immediately flood your bloodstream with triglycerides. Women's muscles use more of these fat molecules for energy than do men's. When you start exercising again, you'll have more fat readily available for energy, which means you'll burn more of it than you would if you'd done nothing but steady-pace work."

It's going to rain for several days, so we decided we might as well go back and have the weekend at home before DH has to head back to work.

I'll bb on Monday- I'm going to start the Dec. rotation then.

I did STS M3W1 shoulders, bis, and tris this morning. Today is a "doubles" day - headed to the WC after work for some kick-ass cardio.
 
Sorry for the homecoming, Becky! It's always so hard to leave vacation for me too.

Katie, Sometimes I like music, sometimes Cardio Coach. depends on my mood.

kate, itaw/katie, play some good music! really loud and sing along if you can =) walking and gym cardio i always listen to stuff i wouldnt necessarily put on at home...work that elliptical!!

becky, thats smart taking off instead of hanging out for the bad weather.

katie, thanks for sharing that 5min thing, i am intrigued. is that a book or a research study?

it is POURING rain here and i have my fingers crossed it will stop soon so we can get out to the gym. if not I will do either KPC or SJP/SB premix of some kind... since ive been doing mostly the gym these are the cathes that i keep thinking of! i finally met with one of the tchrs abt spin class, askedlots of q's, she showed me how to set up the bike, form pointers to keep my knee safe, etc... yes, i think ive gotten up the nerve to try itand tomorrow is the day, 9:30. i am very nervous but i will get there. EVERYONE and EVERYTHING i have read says that this is the best no impact cardio for shedding pounds. so im all abt it!

Wendy, My Ipod is def not rated G! :p It does pump me up but I don't think I work as hard when it's just music. But thanks for the pep talk! It helps!
I hope your spin class is all you want ti to be! Wish I could do it with you!

Good Morning Everyone!

I am trapped in a meeting that I don't care about. My boss accused me of slacking off yesterday so here I am. I did inform him that I was not slacking off - and he agreed I was not. I have a lunch today with friends and a farewell lunch tomorrow. I dragged myself out of bed and did BC this morning. It was great that I went heavier with the weights.

Kate, if I am not motivated to workout, I get motivated once I start working out.
Katie, enjoy your cardio tonight.
Wendy, it poured here last night but it is sunny and warm now. I hope it clears up soon.

Hey girls, I've not been able to get to the forums all day. Did anyone else have this problem?

WO today was CF (stopped about 10 min early b/c calves were hurting... think it was wide lunges :eek:) and then went for about a 40 min brisk walk. Got about 720 cals in which has to be good enough. Ryan got me some bootleg workout that he says will be a surprise for tomorrow. Guess we'll see what it is! :)

Katie, that info is interesting. It reminds me of how insanity works with the warm up and then 5 min stretching and then going again but it's opposite w/steady state first and intervals after. Have a great night at the wellness center.

Kate, get on that WO girl! I would love to have an ellip with good music for a change! So motivating. Girls night sounds so fun.

Becky, have a safe trip back. Sorry vacation is over. Dec rotation looks interesting.

Wendy, I hope you like spin class. I would love to go to a spin class. I'm aching for all these other options b/c all I feel like I have is step!

Colleen, sorry for the work issues. One more day!!! And I disagree with Kate, I love original BC! I think it's fun and move so quickly!

Busy morning today-school for Nevena, breakfast with school moms (2 pancakes and 2 strips of bacon:eek:), Wellness Committee assembly, giving tree shopping, and now home-finally! I ended up taking yesterday as a rest day so today will be cardio and abs.

Katie, I think I'll be trying that workout-thanks again! Have a great workout!

Kate, did you get on that elliptical? Where are you going for dinner?

the rain stopped and it cleared up in justenough time to getot power class today. yay! tomorrow is spin. YES IT IS. no self sabotage allowed.

kate, lol at your ipod, we have something in common... mine is not g-rated either =) not even close! did you get on that ellip?

klaudia, wow, busy day for you! what WO did you choose?

colleen, im with kate, not a big fan of the original BC. I actually lent it to a friend of mine who teaches classes but i have missed have ME around since its on the same disc!

Kate, share some of your songs with me. Probably my fave WO ghetto song is Get Low and it's SOOOOOO bad. :eek: ^5 on that HIIT! I'm getting so excited for Shock Cardio!

I hear you on the grilled chix sal... can't they offer SOMETHING else that's healthy?!?!
 
hey everyone - awesome day here. i got a call to sub in kindergarten, so away i went. it was kind of crazy last minute, and i had a million things scheduled today i just plain canceled:eek: school was a blast, and seeing my own was even better. i slept in a bit this am but still got a good wo - speed intervals run and plyocc insanity. fd was bad yday, but i coped pretty well. only looking forward today.

angie, is it really your claves causing pain or tendon/bone?

katie, wtg on the wos! what does collin do when you exercise?

kate, great wo.

colleen, hope lunch broke up your day. goodbyes kind of suck.

klaudia, did you get your wo in? i really like the slow and heavy wos. nice change for the next 2 weeks, though sometimes i just want to go fast;)

Nina, Glad you had a good day! I did....for a while....then I didn't.....but it's looking better again. :confused: Tomorrow will be a busy, full day....send me PATIENCE!!! (for myself & others!:p)
WTG coping thru the fd. There's a major FD goin' on here and I am ignoring it and burying my head in the sand.

Got 1 girl down, 2 to go and Mike will be home in a couple hours. When I get the big girls to bed I'm going to stare at the wall and drool on myself!:p
 
Late check-in but I just finished CTX KB and abs:) Was feeling lazy but after a little pick me up from DH;) I was reenergized. Now to find some dinner!

Kate, great job on the workout! Ignore the fd and pretend you're an ostrich;) As for ipod music-I won't even tell you what's on Danica's:eek:-all clean versions (I hope!)
