clean exercises

Hi Cathe!

Could you explain what it means to do an exercise cleanly? For example, in HSTA during the squats segment, you say to clean it up (after doing slow-count squats) by finishing with 8 single count squats. Other examples are doing the clean and press in ME and during CTX kickbox you say to do the arm-kick combo clean. I've been wondering about this for a while.

Thanks!

Hi Melanie! Well in ME the exercise is technically called a clean and press. This is an exercise where you "clean" the weight up to your shoulders (in a swift action) and then press it overhead. As far as saying "clean it up" for squats or kickbox drills, I mean to simply perform the movement as precisely (free of bad form )as you can. Hope that helps.
