Chronic Neck Pain

Hi Cathe. I have been working out for almost 20 years and with your workouts for 5 years. I've had my share of injuries, but what I am experiencing now is permanent to a certain degree. I woke up one morning with a stiff neck and 3 weeks later, it didn't go away so I went and saw an Orthopedic group. I got an X-ray at first then a MRI. I was told I have Degerative Disk Disease and spurs resting on my spine. At this time, I'm waiting to see a Neurosurgeon to see what to do next. My family and friends say you probably have a couple of options and they are to get cortisone / steriod shots or undergo an operation. The shots probably won't last too long and the operation could leave you with strict motion. The pain is hard to live with and the workouts are not the same either. My question to you is what would you do under these circumstances?

By the way, what an inspiration you are to me.

Thank you!

Hi BLT! I typically do lots of research on my own in addition to getting at least one more opinion by qualified expert. Based on all the information gathered and what has been told by the experts, I weigh out the pro's and cons to come out with the most "favorable" answer.

I usually take the more conservative treatment first and save the highest risk option for last if the choice is available to me.

Good Luck!

Just budding in. I have a friend who had undergone neck surgery. He was still having pain. They inject botox in his neck to deaden the pain and it works.Explore, before you get cut.Good luck.Neck pain can be horrible. I have had a stiff neck and ouch...
