Christmas Shopping Question

L Sass

So here we are in mid-October and I've usually made at least a sizeable dent in my shopping my now. But this year DH want me to hold off for a bit. He believes that the current economic mess will lead to massive price cuts in retail and on-line sales starting in November. It's so hard to wait, but I have to think he may be right on this -- anyone have any thoughts?

Hey Lorrie,

I have to agree with your hubby. I'm like you and usually have started by now but I have held off in hopes of bigger bargins.

Lorrie - personally, I don't see it happening. There are always good sales around that time. The market is going up again, and people will still be spending, maybe not as much, but still spending and we've had those years before. There may indeed be good sales after Christmas on anything holiday related. I've already started and intend on being finished by Thanksgiving because I HATE crowds. The only thing I may wait on are some online purchases b/c those don't involve dealing with the throngs of people

I agree I think the retailers will get desperate to make sales if they are not meeting their quotas that they will slash prices. I was planning on waiting but toys r us had a buy 2 get 1 free sales and I got most of my son and nephew done. I saved about $100! It is hard to wait because the closer we get the bigger the crowds and more stressful it gets!

I don't see prices being cut much more than they are now, honestly. I will say though that I do most of my shopping online and a lot of stores and ebay stores are offering free shipping.

Also, Amazon has a great deal, free shipping on any order over $25, plus they have a 4-for-3 deal on select items. Of course Amazon is so big that "select" means thousands!! I bought for books for my niece and nephew and got one book free and free shipping.

I tend to agree

with your DH on this one. However - selection on certain items will be a premium and shopping will be a madhouse late in the season.

I am a day after Thanksgiving shopper and thereafter, so I am hoping but I really don't see it happening. I see them not hiring Seasonal help to cut costs.
