Ok, I will preface this by saying that Cathe will always be my favorite instructor--she is precise, fun, creative, a hard worker, etc., etc., etc,! But...
Wow! I just ordered High-low Heaven, Step Heaven, Happy Hour High-low, The Stepping Zone, and CIA 9801 (Double Impact Workouts)--all on sale for 12.95 at serioushomefitness.com. They are so FUN!!! Finally choreography that I can't get on the first try! These are what I've been looking for! Yippee! For anyone who hasn't tried Christi Taylor, I would highly reccomend any and all of these tapes. I've only actually DONE hi-lo heaven and Happy Hour Hi-lo, but having previewed the rest I can tell you that if you like choreography you will love to dance with Christi! (And by the way, I modify a lot to lower impact, and I work out on carpet)

Whoooohoooo!

RE: Christi Taylor

I'm another huge Cathe fan who also loves Christi Taylor. I can't follow her step workouts very well, but her hi/lo workouts are so much fun for me. Christi's personality is so great - she is a joy to work out with.

Wendy,

Could you give me more specific ideas of how you modify? Do you do the same base move but take out jumps and hops? And I know you've said before that you do big arm movements to raise the intensity--any special or favorite arm moves that you could describe? I haven't done Happy Hour Hi-Lo in a month now because of how badly all that jumping around killed one of my knees, but I miss it, plus I have several more Christi tapes coming for Christmas. Thanks! --Karen

Hi Karen--
Yep, I basically just take out a lot of the hops and jumps, and some times the turns, depending on whether I think it will tend to twist the knee. I'm thinking that alot of my knee issues may have less to do with jumping than with twisting. (This excludes plyo jumps, which I'm sure have contributed a lot! ) I think straight up and down jumps really don't hurt (me) , but when you're turning while hopping (i.e. in the three-Knee-pivot-on-the-fourth-knee-then hop around in a circle while you're doing two jumping knees ) it can be bad because you probably aren't landing straight down. Does that make sense?
As for arm movements--hmmm...I don't really know that I have favorites, I just tend to do what seems to go naturally (in my mind ) with the movements. I try not to do the same thing over and over, because I have creaky shoulders, sometimes, too (oh the woes of a 29 year old body!). I know I replace simple claps down low or in front with movements over my head (in Cathe's stuff I do this when she is lunging around the step--I take out the propulsion and send both arms up and over my head).
Also, I get down low on any movement where it is possible to do so, and I really try to spread out (even though space is limited). A grapevine can actually be a non-rest movement if you are squatting down low as you do it...
Hope that helped a little! :)

Hi Wendy, I am so psyched that you posted about Christi Taylor. I am such a Cathe junkie and I've been so disappointed whenever I've branched out. But so many people have said they liked Christi that I've really been considering buying some of her tapes. I LOVE dancy choreography because I go into the workout thinking, "I'm just gonna DANCE for an hour!" Thanks for posting about where to buy her tapes a little cheaper than Collage.

Also: I'm going to Washington, D.C. this week and was really thinking I'd try and take one of her classes in Bethesda. I'm a little intimidated because I've heard she's hard, but I'll be in a place where no one knows me, so I truly don't care if I fall on my you-know-what. If I DO get to take her class live, I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey Caroline ---
Where in Bethesda does Christi teach? I live in DC and although I knew that Christi was nearby in Maryland, I had no idea she taught classes so close in (I thought she was in Bowie---outside the Beltway, ick). Anyway, maybe I'll join you. I cannot get her choreography. I can do Cathe's w/no problems, even Rhythmic Step. I have all of Christi's hi/lo tapes and I have been too lazy to spend the time learning them. Tried a couple of them once and let's just say that I'll need to practice! haha. Thanks, Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, her web site says she teaches at the Washington Sports Club, at 10400 Old Georgetown Rd. in Bethesda. The class schedule is on her web site (taylordfitness.com). I haven't called the club though, so maybe it's out of date. Her Bowie class schedule is up, too. I'm staying in Georgetown and I mapped the location of the Washington Sports Club and it's about a half hour away. But, gosh, now I'm really wondering if she still teaches there. It's too late for me to call today, but I'll check it out when I'm there. If the schedule is still accurate, I'd probably take the Friday or Saturday morning class.

Remember me??

Hi Caroline!
Christi does teach at the Washington Sports Club in Bethesda on Saturday morning. It's her Happy Hour Hi/Lo class, and I just took it a few weeks ago when I was in the area for Thanksgiving. It's a blast.

You might want to e-mail her and make sure she's teaching on the date you plan to visit. You certainly don't want to get there and find out that she's vacationing that week! I don't know her exact e-mail address, but you can find it at her website (www.taylordfitness.com). Have a great time!

Kimberly--yes, the famous one from the SF Chronicle ;p !

Hi Kimberly, of course I remember you. I hope your cycling is going well! Thank you so much for the info. on Christi. I will definitely confirm that she's teaching that class on Saturday morning. Was her class hard - I mean, choreography-wise?
