Chris: another question about the new forums

Hi Chris,

I was wondering if the new forums would allow posters to edit or delete their posts indefinitely.

As much as I proof read my posts, I sometimes don't notice a typo until after the window of opportunity to edit has passed.

Also, I was wondering what the reason was for limiting a persons ability to edit a post or even delete it.

Regards,

No, we will probably only allow about 60 minutes for an edit. The reason for this is if people could change their post indefinitely it would cause all kinds of problems. You would have people editing and changing the complete context of their threads without most people knowing what was originally said. Just imagine the problems if you responded to a poster who had said something very outrageous only to have them drastically change their post after you and others had responded to their original thread. The responses to the original post wouldn’t make sense anymore since the original thread had been altered.

I posted this in another thread, but it got buried in another discussion so I will repeat it here:

Just curious, when the transfer is made, will the "Charter members" still have their special designation? Didn't they get named that after a prior forum update? Will there be anything similar for those of us who are members prior to this change? Will we keep our current "member since" dates? Not a burning question, like I said, I'm just curious.

Your "member since date" will still show, but I doubt "Charter Members" will. Your "State or geographic location" and your "Number of Posts" will also show.
