Chin-Up Check-In Wed 5.17

Soosan

Cathlete
Another official chin-up check-in has been started - where does the time go?

I'll be doing 6 intervals of one of the Imaxes along with the second half of Yoga X. I'll either do my chins today or tomorrow.

Kathryn and Melody, I hope you both are feeling better today! (And Melody's son too!):)

Good morning all. I am planning on doing S&H biceps and triceps today. Probably not all of it cause I think it's overkill. And will maybe add on KPC or one of the Imaxes. Of course I need to do some ab work today x(

I also need to get Yoga back into my routine. I know several of you do yoga. I only have P90X YOGAX. I like it but dread it cause of it's length. Any suggestions of similar but shorter??

Have a Great Day!!

Catherine

Did chins and inverted rows. Push-ups later, at least 200 total. Don't love to do them - DO love how they make my upper body look! That's the incentive - please keep that in mind, chin-up haters!

Good point HB. I love the way chinups and pushups have defined my upper body. Question for ya- what do you do for lower body?

I just finishe S&H biceps and triceps- modified down. Will hopefully squeeze in at least part if not all of Imax 2 later. Will plan to do chinups again on Friday or Saturday.

Catherine

Lunges and squats, primarily - lots of varieties using Gliders, stability ball and med ball. I do something for lower body 5 days a week, but don't spend a lot of time at it one any one day. LOTS less than I used to. Never any longer than 30 minutes, and most days 15 or less.

Hi everyone.

Just checking in to wave as I am not sure I yet feel well enough to workout. I may try a step/weight circuit with light weights because I do often feel better when sick if I can find the energy to "sweat" a little.

Hope all of you have productive workouts, and some fun along the way.

Thanks for the well wishes. DS is fairing better than I...and he started it!

Hi All,

I did PUB yesterday, kind of sore today, so I might skip the chinny's today. I did Body Max leg circuits and CTX Power Circuit. A great cardio/leg workout-one of my fav's.

Sooooosan-I took a quick look at the Yoga workout. It looks great. I'm going out of town so I won't be able to do it until next week. I can't wait. It looks so much better than the class that I took. Thanks for your suggestions. Also, I think it is so neat that you and hubby are taking ballroom lessons.

In the past, when I go on vacation, I look for a good area to go jogging. Now, I also have to look for a park with a bar :)

Hope you gals feeling under the weather are feeling better today.

YEE HA!

Get ready to put me in the front row, folks, 'cuz I JUST DID A FULL, DEAD-HANG CHIN-UP, CHIN COMPLETELY OVER THE BAR, HEAD FACING STRAIGHT FORWARD! (searching for a smilie to express my elation, but none of them seem giddy enough!)

I was so psyched, I was literally jumping up and down yelling "I DID IT!" I even did a plyo jack!

I wish you guys were here, because I wanted to share the moment, and my cats were unimpressed (as any critter who can easily do multiple plyo jumps 3-5 times his/her own height has a right to be, I suppose).

I was dialing the phone to call a friend of mine and shriek "I DID IT!" in her ear, but she wasn't home, and I don't think she'd be much more impressed than my cats.:-(

How did I do it? I'd just gotten back from the acupuncturist (maybe some extra 'chi" floating around?), was fixing myself a snack (which I haven't gotten to yet), and just decided to do it. What got me 'over the top" this time, I think is not aiming for the bar or thinking of getting my nose up over the bar, but instead looking up at the ceiling and aiming there. The way up to a 'nose-up' was actually pretty smooth, but the last 2 inches took some determination and I HAD to reach the 'head straight with chin over bar" goal. I held at the top for 4 counts, then lowered to a count of 10.

I tried again a couple of minutes later, but was unable to get over a "nose-up."

It's been exactly 2 weeks since I started my attempts, and if I can add on another rep every two weeks (so I can eventually do an actual "set" of chins, LOL!), I'll easily meet my goal. (Though I'll take it when it comes and not be disappointed if getting to 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 takes longer...because I DID A REAL, HONEST-TO-GOODNESS, CHIN-OVER-BAR, HEAD STRAIGHT AHEAD, NO-CHEATING CHIN-UP!!!)

Understand this. This is a BIG deal for me, because I've always had this bad memory of being forced to do the bent-arm hang for the President's Physical Fitness test in school, having to be hoisted up by somebody, and barely making it through 1 1/2 seconds (and that's slowly slipping down while tilting my chin up to keep it above the bar, which was the guideline for counting. I just wish I had a class reunion this weekend!}( )

Kathryn >^. .^<

WOO HOOO!! Way to go Katherine! I am smiling and clapping, really. Now I am motivated, strep and all, to try later today.

Of course, you realize Sooooooooooooosan is no longer talking to you.
:)

RE: YEE HA!

Kathryn, I soooooo feel your excitement. When I did my first I ran outside screaming to my DH and he just looked at me like so. WTG!!! .    I told you by the end of the week and it's only mid week!!!

I am still trying to get my 4rth out and beginning to get frustrated. But I know, just keep trying.

RE: YEE HA!

See? There's really nothing like knowing you can do chins! Makes you feel sort of like an Army Ranger, doesn't it? Well, maybe a little!

RE: YEE HA!

Kathryn, you need to pick me up off the floor because I'm just lying here stunned!!! You made it after only TWO WEEKS!!!! I can't tell you how excited I am for you! :) :) :) :)

Your posts are always so clear so I'm hoping you will continue to share the nuances of your efforts. Who knows, maybe something will click with one of us that will speed up the learning curve. As a matter of fact, I think I'll try aiming for the ceiling when I do them next time.

LOL on the class reunion comment. You should google all your old classmates and let them know what you've accomplished, the losers.}( }( }( :p

RE: YEE HA!

Finally getting a chance to check in and am hearing some EXCITING NEWS!!!

Congratulations Kathryn....I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!! Now how many was it before I have to send you $5? Wasn't that the deal long ago???? I'm so proud of you!!! Did you celebrate with a vegan donut??? I would have!!!

Melody...I hope your feeling better soon. I do the same thing when I feel something coming on....intense, sweat it out, cardio! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Usually I end up feeling better though! Hope you do too!

Joanne...thought of you this morning. I got my Trek back from the bike doctor and biked the ridge at 6am this morning. It was a beautiful 12 miles of interval work. I live amonst some steep hills so it ends up being a PERFECT interval workout. All the farms along the way are Amish and they were out plowing fields - truly gorgeous...come bike with me!!

Soosan...keep doing the assisted machine! You will do it. Slow and steady always wins the race!! You don't need to rush this!

Catherine...I was about to comment on something you said up there and now I can't remember. I'll be back!!
