Chin-Up Check-In Wed 4.12

Sorry Melody! Swinging from the trees sounds like much more fun than a corn cob pullup!

I need some motivation to go do YogaX!! Been sitting on my tushie all afternoon and now don't want to get up x( x(

I care, that's why I'm asking. I don't have Power 90X.

Wow, lots of activity today at the CUCI!

Debbie, glad you're back! Can't wait to hear about your trip. Sorry about your forearm. Hope it feels better and you can get back with it soon. Until then, have some donuts.:)

Melody, I wanna party witchoo. Way to get some fun out of every inch of that store! Did you build an inconspicuous fire somewhere and sneak in some s'mores?

Shelley, after seeing you on the road trip, I'd be surprised if you couldn't do at least one chin-up. But don't tell me if you can. I don't want to add you to my "not speaking to" list.:p

Briee, one handed pull-ups??? How did you ever get into the Ecto Chicks? There should have been some kind of pull-up failure test. It's a good thing that I came along and ratted you out.

One more question for ya HB. How often do you do chinups? (I'm so mean.)}(

PLEASE everyone disregard any talk of corn cob or one armed pullups as Sooooooooooooosan is strangely quiet and I believe not speaking to any of us. Begging your forgiveness Sooooooooooooosan!!

Briee

Okay...I was wrong...Soosan is speaking again!! Whew!

Briee

Oh Soosan...I'm coming to your house for dinner.

Why did I ask it before (scratches head)?? I have senior moments, sorry :)

Catherine

Today was the 4 mile run for my am workout, but a rest day for pm weight and pull up work. Tomorrow...the big back workout, including the attempt at pull up with assist from chair.

Now, on to more important matters, class. Today I would like to introduce you to a donut called "The Bear's Claw". Has anyone ever had a Bear's Claw? (No, not a camel's toe!)....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Thanks X. Sounds like a good run. I'll be doing legs & back tomorrow, so I'll be checkin in with ya!!

Catherine

At least twice a week, and I want to do start doing them every other day.

Beautiful donut X, no I haven't tried one and yes it's looks more like a camel foot. I still like glazed:9 :9 :9 , but I'm not opposed to trying something new. By the way...was it you that wanted proof of chinups as in pictures? I'm still thinking on this one. My son says he can link a video clip to some site - if he does this - I'll take a video of me eating donuts - 10 of them. (or maybe doing chinups - but I'd rather do the first)

I did 1/2 of back and biceps this morning and did a set of 10 chinups just before I began. Then I had a busy day and resumed the other 1/2 of B&B tonight, but before I began I did a set of 11. I was so excited I was shaking, but I'm not sure if it was from the fatigue or because I was so surprised - but then again maybe it was from the donut I ate prior to the workout. I did one more set of 9 within the rest of the workout, but I rested a few minutes before trying that. I still lift my knees when I go to the top (more or less at times), I'm going to have to work on form - but I can definitely feel strength increasing. I really think the negatives help -keep at them Soosan - it will come. I fully realize that your body type does make it tough, but stick with it and your muscles will get stronger - just like they did with pushups.

Think about it guys - how much weight do you use for bicep curls, rows, shoulder presses? Then think about how much weight you are using for chinups. Pretty impressive when you think about the fact that you are lifting anywhere from 105-145 pounds - doesn't that sound almost insane. But if it was translated into steel...that's what you'd be lifting. Negatives are going to build "major" muscle. Makes you think about the rest of your workouts and how much more you could be pushing eh (made ME think)?

Briee

X, thanks for the donuts and good luck with your attempts today!

Catherine, good luck to you too.

Briee, Woo Hoo on ELEVEN!!! I'd love to see a video of you doing them - hope your son can work it out. Your comment on how much weight we're lifting by even attempting these is something I think about often, particularly with regard to injury. As an analogy, I could probably jump from doing eight 55 lb squat reps to one 100 lb rep, but I'd be setting myself up for injury. I'm hoping that doing negatives is a way of incrementally working up to that theoretical 100 lb rep, but I wonder if it's more like jumping straight to 75 or 80 lbs. I really don't want to get sidetracked by injury.

Oh, and my kids LOVED dinner last night. My 11-yr-old fruit and vegetable hater gobbled it up. I thought it was so-so, but with some tweaking, could be delicious.

Good Morning Chin Up Chicks!

Donuts for everyone! There's one or two chocolate on the bottom, you'll have to dig for them. But no fighting!! Just be kind and share or split.

Please read "Meltdown Challenge" thread. I am taking a few weeks off to focus on an important goal (chin up included). In the meantime I'm hoping someone can keep the donuts coming until I return!

X, thanks for the morning sugar rush! I think the MD Challenge is a great idea. Whether or not you win the pot, you can't lose! Hope you can find a few minutes here and there to check in with us. In the meantime, BEST OF LUCK!!! You'll do great!!!!!:) :) :) :)

***Clapping with excitement*** 10 & 11 WOWWWWWWWWWWW. You are so right about the amt of wt you're lifting during a chinup or even doing negatives. I've already increased my curling poundage a bit. And I can do crane much longer than before (granted it was only a few misley secs before- now about 10 sec)-slow steady changes. I love it!!!

It's so nice to be able to share this excitement as we all make our improvements. Do you all ever tell other people and get this blank stare of yeah and so,..... I'm like, you have no freaking clue what it takes to do this.

Have a good day.

Oh and X thanks again for the treats!! Good luck with your challenge

Catherine
