Chin-Up Check-In Wed 4.12

Soosan

Cathlete
Not doing any today but starting this because it's Wed. Anybody doing them?

I'm supposed to do mine tomorrow, but my rhomboid's been giving me trouble and it might be wise to hold off for a few days. I definitely aggravated it on Monday by doing them and then doing PUB. See? This is what I didn't want - to not be able to keep at 'em because of injury! It's not a bad injury but it's painful enough to temporarily halt progress. In all my years of working out, I've only had one injury and that was because my boot slipped on the dance floor last year while doing a split at a party. That interfered with my yoga for about a year and also stopped me from reaching my birthday fitness goal (which was to do a standing forward bend with my torso flat against my legs). I don't want that to happen again this year.x(

Morning!!!

I did my chinups last night, so none for me today either. Tomorrow is legs and back, so I'll do them then.

Soooooooooooosan, I think you are wise to rest if you have pain. We can't be having any injuries on our check in. Perhaps more donuts will help :p Where's X- more donut pics please!!

Have a Great day All!!

Catherine

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooosan,

Sorry to hear about your injury. You are smart for resting it. I'm jealous that you can do the splits!

I'm letting my breakfast settle and then off to the bar :)

HI, I'm "reposting" my late night/early morning (?) post from yesterday's check in. I knew you wanted to hear from me.;-) }( :p :+ I'll be back to chinup attempts tomorrow. Here it is:

Well all you gals, we had a BLAST at Dick's, of course. We actually bought each of the boys a set of golf clubs today (so they wouldn't throw us out) -- the skinny strong things outgrew their other ones.

And yes, we climbed the rock wall, slept in the tents, tried to light the camping lanterns, putted on the green, ran thru all the clothing racks, ransacked the "open door" drink machines, ate a few protein bars, paddled a couple of kayaks, shuffled all the shoes around, modeled the hats, mixed up all the dumbbells, punched the punching bags, bounced on the rebounder, ran on the treadmills, did whatever you do on the elipticals, pretended to be Lance Armstrong on the stationary bikes, squished our butts on the bosu, cast a few fishing rods, sat on a fake wolf, dribbled the basketballs, lounged on the ab lounger, then there was the incident with 3 DS and the ladies' sports bras, AND OF COURSE DID OUR CHINUPS, and then used the bathrooms.

P.S. We also PAID for the sets of golf clubs, which at those prices entitled us to all of the above.

Melody~What a fun day at Dick's! Too cute!

My chin-ups have gone down the tubes...I was at 10 "cheat-negatives" doing a 4-5 count lowering...I started feeling (right before we left for Myrtle Beach) a pull/ache in my forearm to the point it even hurt when I was brushing my teeth. I figured the break while gone would be a good thing. Anyway, yesterday I attempted to do them and only pulled out 5 of them and could feel that sensation again and figured I best stop. Waaah! Sooo, guess I'll just experiment and see what happens. Def don't want to make it worse. Sooo, you guys keep at it and I'll post my piddlies when I can. Sooooooooooooosan, hope you heal too.

I just can't respond to anything else up there until I quit laughing at Melody's Dick's experience. ROTFLOL, ROTFLOL, ROTFLOL.

Briee (Oh how sad I am that I missed itx( x( x( x( )

Well, Briee, my youngest DS got the news yesterday that he will have to have another surgery on his legs and thus both of them cast for 6-8 weeks, then intense PT -- so I had to do something after the DR appt to cheer him up!:)

Sorry you missed it, too. I have a feeling if you and your crew joined me and my crew at Dick's, that particular location would go out of business after the experience.;-)

I did a token set of 5 unassisted for demonstration purposes in the fitness center.

WTG HB!! HB, can you give me any insight or encouragement about losing grip strenth with chinups. I feel like I'm doomed to be stuck at 2 forever cause I lose my grip. Any thoughts would be appreciated!! I think Briee's answer was something like "eat more donuts":p

Catherine

>Hey Catherine...how about those corncob pullups in Back and Biceps. Just did that this morning and I do believe this would be the most efficient use of your time spent eating donuts at the top of the bar. Moving in one swift motion from the right to the left and back again (unless your left handed and you therefore would go from left to right, but no matter)...certainly makes for an overall lat burn while covering a wide range of toppings ie, glazed, chocolate, maple and lets not forget the ever popular candy sprinkles. Just be sure to place a napkin directly under your bar to expedite cleanup.

You know we do have to keep the donuts ever present in this thread or else people will think we are too tough and not join this elite group of women who have unnatural tendencies toward hanging bars of steel.

Hey Sooooooooooooosan...I did two one handed pullups this morning and they are NOT that big of a deal. You are really pulling yourself up by both hands - the only thing impressive is the "grip" strength in the one hand. Weird thing is I couldn't do any with my left hand and was just fine with the right...hmmmmmm. If you can do one pullup...I'm sure you could do this too as long as you have grip strength. I thought they were really weird...I've honestly never heard of them until you told me about them. I'm sure you have all kinds of interesting variations and you're just holding out on us. You are so creative!!!

Briee

Briee,
I hate corncob pullups, well till I heard your idea ;) Actually, lately I've just been trying to focus on regular sets of chinups while doing P90X. I do however do negative wide grips, but mostly chins and negative chins.

I am so impressed that you can do a one-armed chinup. Where do you put your other arm?

Catherine

Melody.....I was thinking more along the lines of um, now what do they call it......"restraining order".:7 :7 :7

You place one hand on the bar and the other hand on a handle attached to a cord attached to a power winch that is secured to the above ceiling - no just kidding. Sooooooooooooosan informed me of the correct way to do one arm pullups...place one hand on the bar and grasp the wrist with the other hand, it's really similar to the towel pullups from P90X - kind of....so it's really not too bad.

Nice job HB!!!

Shelley...go do a chinup and report back pronto!!! (or you could go eat a donut - these are interchangable)

Debbie....well lets here about the trip girl. I'm sure you had a great time, although slightly less great a time as if we would have been there right?? :p :p :p :p It's back to chinups for you now!!

Briee

I have no secrets for grip strength - I'm too busy paying attention to what happens after I've lowered myself down to pull back up and don't pay attention to grip. I DO use a padded bar, which really helps.

What the heck is a corn cob pull up?

Who cares what a corn cob pull up is!!! What's the description of one arm pullups doing in this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone has some 'splain'n to do. Who can do one arm pullups?

And Shelley, you can stay cause I know the beasts  here who can do pullups will love a gal like you who can do pullups AND eat donuts. I can only eat donuts and attempt pullups.

It's on P90X Back and Biceps. Lets see if I can get this right. You pullup then shift your wt to the right then left then do this move like a chicken with your neck. Clear as mud I am sure!!

Hyperventilating now cause I didn't want to know the above.

I'm going back outside now and swing from the trees with my boys, as I have determined therein lies the secret to their skinny body strength with pullups.
