Chin-Up Check-In Tues 6.27

Soosan

Cathlete
Hi all! Thought I'd report on my chins today: Did 3 reps unassisted, first one 1/3 of the way up; second one, 1/2; third one, 1/3 again. I then did four 15-ct negs followed by MM abs. I'm going to work on increasing the reps to eight. I'll do the rest of MM later.

Very quiet here today! Hope everyone's doing well and there haven't been any more ER visits.:)

Hey Soooooooooooosan!!! You are doing great!!! 15 ct negatives - those are killer }( }( }(

I am taking a "rest week" However I did chins on Sunday and will probably do more either tonight or tomorrow. I am afraid not too LOL!! Can't be backsliding.

What happened to Miss Amy who just got her chinup bar and was gonna join in???? Did we scare her away???

Catherine

Thanks, Catherine! When I told my boss at the Y (a former gymnastics and swimming coach as well as a certified group fitness instructor, marathon runner, etc) that I went from pulling myself up about one centimeter to 1/2 way up, he replied (knowing how long I've been at this), "shouldn't you be pulling yourself up farther by now?" He wasn't trying to insult me and he prefaced the question with, "please don't take this the wrong way..." And I wasn't insulted, because the question was kindly meant and he's a very nice, encouraging person, but it made me think I haven't quite hit the right training technique. It seems when I do them more frequently, I do worse. I almost waited until tomorrow to try them again, because I didn't feel quite rested enough, but Tony Horton and others I've heard say to do them more often than I am. Does anyone have any advice to help me speed up progress without injuring myself or do you think my progress seems to be on track from what you know about me?

Oh, and Catherine, good for you for taking a rest week. I don't think it will hurt your recovery to do some chins a couple of times. I'd be scared to backslide as well - you've come so far!:)

Soooooooooooosan, first of all remember you had an injury that factors into the time that you've been putting in doing these. Who knows but everyone is different and I don't think you can say it should take x weeks before you should do a chinup.

Honestly for me doing P90X I think is what got me there. Not any one workout, but just the whole plan. Hence I am starting a new rotation come Sunday }( }( }( Anyone care to join me??

Donuts????

Hi Catherine and everyone. I've been a bit busy with "projects".

I'll be back to my negatives on Friday and will report. I'm afraid I won't even be able to do a 4 ct down negative by now.

Take care everyone.:)

I'm taking about a week off of chin attempts. It wasn't planned, but my mental effort just isn't in it right now, and I find that at this point, that mental push is necessary. Don't hate me because I'm a wimp!

By the end of the week, I should be back to my attempts.

I've decided that I don't like to do the assisted so I moved the chair away. I'm going to keep workong on the negs and bent arm and feet on the floor down to a dead hang and and pull up even if it is just a little or pull up from arms bent. Wow-that is one run on sentence.

I have family coming tomorrow for a week so off to clean.

Joanne

Hey Melody, Kathryn and Joanne! (The donuts worked, Catherine!):) Glad to see everyone's listening to their bodies (and minds). It's all about balance.

Joanne, I'm expecting company for five days over the 4th and need to clean too. I better wait until Friday, though, or everything will just be a mess again by then.

Just did Imax3 1-6 followed by the second 1/2 of Yoga X. I feel great!

Off to take the kids to the pool! I'll check back later.:)

I am sitting here jealous of your workout Soooooooooooosan. I can't wait to start back up on Sunday!! I have done 2 sets of 4 chinups today so far and may try for some more later. Not resting on those, but these'll be the last ones I do till Sunday. It just feels weird not to workout!!!

OK Briee, miss thang, where the blazes are ya?

HI everyone. I can't remember what's going on...brain death.

Oh, Catherine, you're not resting too much during your rest week are you?:p YAY on the chins AND pullups...do you mean wide overhand grip pullups? Well, no matter, I'm impressed with your progress.

GS CT yesterday, cardio with ab ripper X today, tomorrow GS Legs and yoga, and Friday GS BSB, cardio, and the good ole negatives again.:)

Have a most pleasant night ladies.:)

Hey Mel, I did shoulder width overhand pullups. Can not do wide grip. They are super hard and from what I've read, hard on the rotator cuff.
Glad to see ya doing some stuff from P90X (ab ripper x) Soon you'll be wanting to do it all }( }( }(

Catherine

ETA: I am on a rest week, just not chinups- afraid of backsliding!

Catherine,

My DH began his P90X rotation Sunday and really likes it. I'm picking and choosing some of the P90X DVDs to work in with Cathe right now. I'm back to GS for weights for the next 3-4 weeks, but come August I MAY give dear Tony a go.:)

Oh! Did I hear donuts?

Catherine, I'm willing to take on a rotation challenge. Tell us more about it.

I'm going on a family reunion this weekend over the 4th of July, was wondering if you would let me know in advance what Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be of the rotation. I'll do it during my visit with family.

Soosan, you are doing so well. I'm so proud of you.

Meolody, always love to hear from you.

Kathyrn, sometimes I need a break from exercise, but intentionally.

Joanne, great to hear from you again.

Take care chinnies, talk to you all soon.

I'm still doing Chin and Pull ups, very much assissted, but I can tell I'm getting stronger little by little.

Janie, I am starting a P90X rotation on Sunday. I will be doing the classic rotation and will also probably add in S&H legs somewhere once a week. If you don't have P90X you can sub Cathe or some others for most.

Melody, P90X will get you there on your pullups. It did me. So come join me in August after you are done with your gymstyles }( }( }(

Catherine, WTG on the two pull-ups!!! You are something else!

Janie, I missed you in my above post (sorry). I'm so glad you're still checking in with us and that you're getting stronger. Your posts are always motivating!

Melody, nice to see you. Back to the Gymstyles, huh? I know you've gotten great results with those.

Catherine, you're motivating me to do a P90X rotation, but it's too difficult for me to do split routines during the summer. There's just too much going on, and we're in and out all the time, so I just stick with total body workouts, short and intense cardio and yoga. That way I get everything in, but have greater flexibility with regard to when I work out. Next week we're going to Maine, so, along with walking and bike riding, I'll do yoga and Pilates as I always do when on vacation. Today I'm taking the kids to Busch Gardens, but will do some ab work before we leave. Chins are on my plate for tomorrow.

I'll start a P90X in September. Hopefully I'll have gotten farther along with my chins by then.:)
