Chin-Up Check-In Mon 3.27

Soosan

Cathlete
With shaking hands, I'm typing that I just did five 10-ct negs and one 5-ct. I was aiming for six 10-cts, but could only do a 5-ct that last rep. I'm going to try some from a dead hang before my workout this afternoon. Maybe I'll be able to lift myself up 1/2 inch more. As long as I move forward, it's all good.

Looking forward to hearing how the rest of you are doing!:)

Sooooooooooooosan,

Good job!!!!!!!! "Hang" in there (and pull up, of course).

Anyway, today is my off day, well just yoga tonight, but tomorrow is another day, ahem.

Thanks, Melody. I work at the Y (not in fitness) so while I was over there this morning, I did one rep on the chin-up assist machine with 20 lbs of counter weight. I tried to do a second one but no go.

Are you doing a yoga DVD or taking a class tonight?

Hi all! I survived again but it still isn't pretty! Oh my gosh, will these ever get easier? I did 8 of the cheating kind and it is soo hard for me to come down to only 5 counts still. A question...do any of you have your knees touch the pad in front of you on a Power Tower? I tried that today and it seemed to stabilize me a bit better so I wouldn't "swing". I just let them slide down the pad as I came down. My UB is still doing all the work though, trust me! Whoa! My whole body was working...even felt the core this time. Okay, I'll be back on Wednesday.

Good job Debbie!! Never thought about using the pad to keep the legs from swinging.

I'm doing Back and Biceps tonight. Which means I will suck at doing negatives after doing bicep work!!x( I will check in later

I won't lie and say that they get "easier," but you'll be riding on a real high when you can do them without assistance, and that will push you to keep at it and do more.

I just finished 5 10-ct negs, which is an improvement from the other day. It still seems like I am never going to get there.

Good job everyone!!!

Today I did Back and Biceps. I got that pain in my shoulder again x( x( - so I didn't do all the sets of chinups/pullups that Tony does. I did 3 sets of 1 rep unassisted chinups. Also did 2 negative wide grip pull ups and 8 assisted with the chair. Total of 8 5 count negative chins and 11 chinups with chair assist.

OK last week I felt I was getting closer to do 2 in a row. 1 was getting easier and was able to pull up to eye level on the bar for #2. Now I feel like I am struggling again for 1. What's up with that???

Oh and I had no donuts today!! Briee, did you see the post where I said I dreamed about donuts last night.

Catherine ;)

PS: This check in is getting a rep for being hard a$$es }( }(

I don't have a power tower, but I kept swinging the first few days too. I think my body's learned how to stabilize itself so it doesn't swing too much now. I see nothing wrong with using the pad for stabilization. You're doing great, Debbie!:)

Just like everything else, you have to keep pushing yourself in order to keep seeing results. I'm sure doing one chin-up is "easy" for someone who can do multiple reps, but what progress would you see if you only did one rep forever? My goal one year was to do five push-ups. Those five are easy for me now, but two sets of 12 are hard.

I can't wait till I feel the high of doing one unassisted chin-up. It will be my biggest fitness accomplishment to date.

Improvement is good, even incremental improvement! I know what you mean by "it seems like I'm never going to get there." I think as long as we stick with it, we'll move forward and get a lot stronger in the process, even if we never get there.

Can you believe you're doing 3 sets of 1 rep unassisted when you couldn't even do one 9 weeks ago? I think that's a huge accomplishment!

Are the 5 ct negatives harder than the chair assists?

Normal strength fluctuation? Not enough recovery between chin-up days? You'll probably have to play with this some.

Chyah, that's us...

Soooooooooooosan,

Thanks. It is a big accomplishment. I just want more }( }( !! But I know it's gonna take time.

And yeah the chair assist is easier than the negatives for me. I guess if I used the chair a little less then they wouldn't be LOL!!

Hi girls!

Checking in - today I have MM w/o on agenda shortly, but after the warm-up my first task will be those negative chinup reps.

I can't do chinups yet, but discovered last night I can do the full bow position in yoga.:)

Later.

I did MM yesterday after my chin-ups too. I can't imagine doing them beforehand. Today I did KPC. My shoulders and lats were a little sore from yesterday's chin-ups - I wonder if I hindered my progress by doing KPC the day afterward. It kind of felt good, though, like I was flushing out some lactic acid.

Way to go, Melody! (Do you mean upward bow {aka wheel}?) )

Yeah, I do, aka backbend. Don't pay any attention to anything I type today - I've had 2 hours sleep.x(

WOW!! I am impressed!!

Catherine

I agree, even the slightest improvement is good. I also think mental attitude has a lot to do with it. On days where I stare at the bar and think no I SUCK x( !! On days where I say OH YES I CAN, I do better :) . As Tony says don't say I can't say I currently struggle with,...
