Chin-Up Check-In Friday 3.31

LOL Melody...okay let me write one more that you won't want to show your boys. We don't have the carpet down yet - only 4X8 flooring. The scaffolding is set up on that so I can Faux paint up the walls. The oak trim is going on and when it is complete my dh told the kids they can bring in the trampoline from outside and set it up in the house to jump on for A WEEK (or until the carpet comes). You can imagine what they will do from the loft at that point. The ceilings are 22 ft. at peak...lots of jumping space!! Scaffolding works great as a jungle gym with pullup bars abounding. We are 40 minutes from the ER. My dh is insane, but I married the right person!!;) ;) ;)

You girls have been busy, busy, busy!

Amy - a new recruit! Welcome - so glad you'll be joining us!:)

Catherine, WAY TO GO!!! That is a huge accomplishment and you know there'll be more coming.

Melody and Briee, what fun families you have! I love your pictures, Melody, and would love to have a yoga loft like that. I hope you don't mind, but I e-mailed your kids Briee's ideas about the rope swing and trampoline.:p

Let's see, it's Sunday morning. Yesterday I did six 10-ct negs, which is a slight improvement from 5 1/2 negs, but I literally could not do one more. Oh well, at least it's an improvement.

I had a dinner party last night and my bar was a huge hit (with the kids and the adults). DH did seven and then did a couple one-handed. This other guy, Randy, did a couple one-handed ones too. He's somewhat overweight and, as far as I know, doesn't work out at all. I pulled myself up the usual one inch x(.

Soooooooooooosan,

You are doing so well. Those 10 ct negs are hard!!! Do you keep a log? It really helps me see my progress and feel better about doing the negatives. I always look at how many I did last time and try to shoot for 1 more.

keep up the good work!!

catherine

I'm keeping track of my progress on my workout calendar. This week I've only been able to increase by 1/2 rep, but at least it's something. I agree that it's motivating to keep track.

Last night at our dinner party I was talking about my chin-up goal and Randy said, "Next year it will be to do one hanging from your feet." He called it a "butt-up.":p

How many of THOSE can you do, Honeybunch and Briee?}(

ROFLMAO!!!!! Butt up- would probably land me on my head x(

Well, I did chest and back today. I was a bit disappointed on my first set of chinups that I could only do 1. I had so hoped to repeat the 2 that I was able to do yesterday. Today I could only do 3 sets of 1. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't do more. I also did 2 sets of 5 negatives and 2 sets of wide grip pullups -5 negatives and 8 chair assist. I counted my pushups today and I did 174. All of them on my toes!!! So good pushup day bad chinup day. I do notice my strength fluctuates for whatever reason.

Maybe you needed to rest a day or so before attempting them again. I still think it's quite an accomplishment that you've gotten to two!!

WOW, I am really impressed!! Push-ups are another struggle for me. I can crank out 2-3 sets of 12 on a (very) good day and it has taken me YEARS to get to this point.

>I do notice my strength fluctuates for whatever reason.

I think that's the same for everyone.

I am super excited to start with these things!!! I just don't have a space, and DH has been at work a lot so I haven't been able to ask him for his opinion on WHERE I can do these puppies.

I don't want to invest in a tower, so it seems to me that my options are limited. x( :-(

When I *do* get one, though, watch out!!! I'll post every single attempt I make, LOL. I'm a chatty one...:7

Amy,
Join in when you can!!! We like chatty ;)

Oh and I do need to clarify that all of those push ups were various hand placements and styles and weren't done all at once. They were mingled sets in between my back work. Still a pretty good back day for me!! }(

Catherine

Sooooooooooooosan...they could really do one armed pullups??? Holy cow, I don't think I've ever seen this done. Your dh must be in incredible shape! Aren't pullup bars great for dinner parties...everyone simply MUST have one.

Well ladies...I noticed you commented that "strength fluctuates" and this is completely true. I've been a major lazy one prior to two weeks ago, but you guys are motivating the heck out of me. I attribute my bday achievement to this as well as major juicing the past 4 days. Saturday night I worked out and was in an unusually wonderfully strong mood (something that rarely hits) so I tried my first set of pullups and did 9.9. On the tenth I got about 2 inches from the bar and I fought, fought, fought, but couldn't quite make it. I had HB on my mind and was determined to do it, but I fell a tad short. Weird thing was I waited 5 minutes and tried again and did 6, then I waited a few minutes and did 5. Threw in some chest flies and did another set of 5. At this point I decided "hey, I'm turning 41 today, so I'm doing 41 pullups. I did all the rest in sets of 5 with the last single one being a SLOW negative to the bottom. For fun I threw in two negatives at 10 counts with a 20#weight hangin from my weight belt. WHEW!!!

I really think the juicing super charged me, I wish for a workout like this everyday, but I'm sure it won't happen. Made my Bday a special one for me though...one no one else will understand - except you guys!! Thanks for turning me around - sincerely.

Briee (HB...look out girl...I'm dying to catch you...I've got the fever now)

I want to design a tshirt that says Jump and give me 10, with a girl below a pullup bar. As soon as I do...I'll send ya each one. You guys are doing so super well. Keep doing those negatives! I swear - the weighted negative is my hardest one - major shaking.

Ahhhhhh Briee, we missed your birthday. I'm sending you a dozen glazed donuts right now!!!

Awesome workout!!! I am sooooo impressed. So do you have a wt belt at home to do your weighted negatives? If so where did you get it?

Cool idea about the shirt!!! We should seriously think about doing this. Though I don't know how :-(

Catherine

Briee, first of all... happy belated birthday! April 1st - what an appropos (sp?) birthday for you!

And second, WOW!!! Congratulations on the 9.9! You are one strong mama! You really need to post some pics - bicep vein or no. And you'll be ahead of HB in no time. (Just a little competetive nudging to really get you going, HB.}( - like you need motivation...) You guys might need to start your own "butt-up" check-in because all the pull-ups you'll be doing will get monotonous.

One-armed pull-ups sound harder than they are. My husband is in medium shape, has a slight build and works out maybe twice a week. The way you do them is grab onto the bar with, say, your right hand and then grab your right forearm with your left hand and pull yourself up. He did 3 of them and Randy did one. I bet you could do one. Burke (my DH) can only do 7 chin-ups whereas you, Miss Smartypants, can do 9.9.

Amy, forgive me if I missed any follow-up to your Door Gym post, but did you do some additional looking into of these? I wanted one, but my house was built in the 1880's and the trim on all the doors is too wide. I don't recall they needed to be screwed in anywhere, just kind of squeezed around the door. We wound up screwing a regular Wal-Mart pull-up bar into the doorway of our family room. It doesn't look too bad and it's generated a lot of enthusiasm from young and old alike! Hope you find a solution! :)

OMG....chinups....pushups....so many of them and now...butt ups!

I am afraid, very afraid thatI'm in over my head.;-)

Oh, WTH, I'll be back to my wimpy attempts tomorrow gals.
:7

Melody...there is no turning back. You can't NOT be in. It's not allowed. And please pick up your home and move here, we're on 44 acres and there's lots of room. Our kids would be thrilled to lead others into their exciting life of regular ER visits.

Catherine...I have a normal weight belt (black heavy nylon w/ velcro fastener - I hate those big leather things) I slip the end of the weight under the belt and make it tight. Probably not the safest, but neither is swinging in our loft. I've never had it slip out YET.

I hate pictures Sooooooooooooosan, except everyone elses:7 :7 , but maybe I'll get some with my ds camcorder when he returns from Mexico. Thanks for the bday wishes...I expected Soooooooooooooosan's comments!! Actually, I think you were holding back.

My back is not half as sore as I thought it would be tonight. I must be adapting a bit.

Briee
