RunninTeach

Cathlete
Good morning, everyone!

Nothin' like the feeling of freedom on a Saturday morning. Ahhh! :)

Gloriahey, a three-hour nap means you seriously needed it! Ironing out all the logistics of a mock election sounds like hard work. Knowing you, it will be just fabulous! :) I hope you do get to rest some, too, this weekend. You deserve it!

Today will be a run + some weight work since I missed my circuit yesterday.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Morning Peeps!:)

Cathy: You know I kept forgetting to comment on the forgotten running shoes thing. I soooo would do something like that! :D So are you heading off to Target soon? ;) We went last night. I had to return a couple of things and pick up a new shaker to make my martinis in. The one we had busted. That explains the state I was in cause I just HAD to try it out!:p I like your idea of a scrap book though I am not creative at all. It would be more like just a photo album. I'd prefer the pics be up on the wall but in an album is better then never getting printed out at all. :)

Gloria: Oh I didn't know you get automatic entry into NYC if you have to apply a 3rd time. Good to know!:) So you like the dirty martini, huh? My mom's s/o likes them. When he found out I liked chocolate martinis he had me taste his dirty one. I love green olives but didn't care for the drink.

So I'm feeling tired and bit disconnected after last night's romance with the martini glass. LOL I got on the phone with BFF so I ended up making a THIRD drink and then managed to eat everything in sight! Hopefully I'm feeling better for my class at 10:30. I thought about trying to get PUB done before the class but I think it will now be reserved for after. :)

DH must have gone out of his mind. He's offered to food shop for me while I'm at the gym. He's even taking DS with him! I wonder what he wants?? :p

Good morning Cheetahs!

Waiting for it to warm up a few degrees before I head out for my run. I'm sure I need to get out there and deal with it because race day could be worse.

Cathy - Have a good run and circuit workout!

Wendy - Chocolate martinis sound yummy! Bet you were all mellow last night. Whatever DH wants, let him have it if he's doing the shopping.

Posh - Did you enjoy your free Friday night? Did DS team win? I do Yoga for Hips & Thighs by Suzanne Deason. Yeah, still doing this 10 miles all alone this morning.

Shelly - I was thinking how much I needed some nice running gloves. Need to check some out the next time I go to Wal-Mart. Glad you're enjoying your running. Did you remember to take money with you on the shopping trip yesterday? ;)

Gloria - Aren't you glad we only have 10 days to go for this election? Good job with the workouts. Maybe the added weight workouts is what's making you hungry. Think the extra running is doing it for me.

Dallas - I'm putting on my tights this morning. Those babies are warm and I love them. Don't need anything else on under or over them either. Good job on the 8 miles!

Ok, I'd better hit the road and quit putting off the run. The sun is out and the fog is gone.

BBL! Enjoy your day!

Good morning cheetahs

Have to share a funny story. Mom is now at my sister Karen's, probably until her house sells. And my "oldest" sis came over to visit my Mom yesterday. Well, Karen has a pond in her back yard and it has a sensor that makes a sprinkler spray if you get too close. It is used for animals that try and get the fish. My oldest walked out to see the pond and Karen had NOT turned off the sensor...so my oldest sis got SOAKED!!

Cathy...I will be interested in hearing if you like the Banana Nut crunch. It has been feeling very good with my running lately...I am getting excited about the marathon! Enjoy your weights and run today.

Wendy...I am used to watching the stars improve on DWTS. And Cloris is awful IMO. The dance last week had a few tasteless moments. I know all about the popularity thing with these shows! That is sweet DH will take care of the food shopping for you with DS!

Linda...Well Patty for sure should not try and train like those much faster elite/endurance guys, until she gets some marathons under her belt. Yes I do like the Banana Nut crunch a lot! Take it easy on your 10 miles today. I hope DH's special apples will help...:)

Christine...it is more like minutes with my oldest that are torture. Guess we all have to have something! I just at this point don't have room for any KB's. Sounds like a nice dinner for DH..

Dallas...yes I have heard 50 is the new 40! Thank you for the nice compliment. For running right now I do a tempo an interval run every week. I don't know how much that will change after I start my real marathon training in Dec. I would like to keep it at 2 speed workouts a week. I wear running tights in the cold winter days.

Jackie...Are you doing Slo mo for 4 weeks? Glad you got that run with your neighbor scheduled. Enjoy your run this morning.

Posh...How was your free Friday evening? Yes, I did get the Enlytens at Rite Aid. They are just so convenient to use.

Shelly...LOL about the crotch doc...:). I have heard that one often...I think with your training you can better your LV marathon time. But yes, don't stress it. I don' really know what my tempo run pace is as my tempo runs are different than the average. I am more concerned with my interval paces. They are about 9:00, and I seem to be getting a bit faster every week.

Gloria..LOL about you eating like a beast! Do you think it is because you are running more? I was thankful it was friday too!

Today is some sort of kickbox and leg mish mosh. I skipped a party last night and instead took a movie (Chinatown) over to my sister's to watch with my Mom. My sister and her DH went to the party. I know I probably saw that movie way back when, but I forgot most of it!!

Have a great day...:)

Good morning all! Didnt sleep very well last nite so feeling a little groggy this morning. Well, a good run should perk me up and I'll nap well hopefully later cuz it's a work nite.

Yesterday pm for a second workout I ended up doing BM2 double UB. Hooboy, forgot how tough that one was! Some nice DOMS starting to settle in:D.

Wendy- A bit hungover this morning??:p Well, a good workout at the gym should take care of that! Very nice interval run yesterday. Hey, you may very well be investing in some cool weather running wear soon if you're gonna be starting with TNT in Dec/jan. Somehow I don't think they are gonna go with you to the gym to hop on the TM!! But I remember you running a very cold 5k last winter. Very nice of your DH to offer to do the shopping.... will be interesting to see tho what the price is!;)

Gloria- Our dogs are great about staying on our property. They are absolutely NOT interested in wandering far from us. fortunately, also the house is set back pretty far from the road with a nice screening of trees in front. That Mock Election does sound like quite an involved project!
Glad it will be over for you soon.

Dallas- Thank you so much for your kind compliments yest! So your 8 miles was on the TM? I think that actually is much harder! Especially with the hills!! Quite impressive:eek: I wear running tights myself without the additional shorts and a long sleeve shirt. Feels quite comfy to me!
I'll be adding more layers tho soon!

Cathy- Hope all teh family obligations got squared away and you are enjoying your Saturday. Love the thread title today BTW! It's raining pretty heavily here tho so no asphault kicking for me today... just kicking the belt on the TM:p Have a great run and hope the weight workout goes well.

Jackie- LOL about remembering to take money yest for shopping! Actually I have forgotten my checkbook on a few occasions. I've also gone out without a drivers license (having forgotten to take it out of my running belt) Hope you are getting in a fabulous 10 mile run today!!
Does your future running partner train at your pace?

Carole- Love your story about your sis getting soaked... I can picture that! I didn't know your Mom was selling her house. That's great news! Will she be staying permanently with Karen or is she looking for a retirement community/assisted living type arrangement. Very nice pace you are doing for your intervals BTW!!!

That about catches me up cheetahs! It's really pouring rain outside so I'll be my pansy self and stay indoors on the TM for a 5 mile tempo run.
I'll tack on the SB leg workout from ASJ plus abs.

Later

Good Morning Cheetahs! :)

Cathy: I am feeling very well rested this morning. :) I just want to make sure the mock election runs smoothly since it will all reflect on me. I'm like you and do not like being in the spotlight. Hope you have a great run today!

Wendy: Yes, it is the dirty martini. :) Wow, that is nice of DH! Enjoy your class today!

Jackie: You are probably right about the weight work. I have turned it up a notch since school started. I can't wait for this election to be over. Have a great run!

Carole: Too funny about your sis! As I told Jackie, I think I may be eating so much since I have been lifting more this fall. Not a lot, just more than I did this summer. Sounds like a nice quiet evening. I vegged last night while DH was out with the guys. I needed some down time on the couch!

Shelly: That's nice your dogs stick around so well. Your property sounds just perfect! Pansy is not a word I would use to describe you! :)

Feeling good this morning. I was thinking of doing my blast premixes, but the road is calling me for some reason. I will have to check the weather. It is looking very dreary out there.

Have a great Saturday Cheetahs! :)

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Dallas – How was the run? Did it warm up? I know you can get some looser fit running tights so they are not quite as revealing. I’ll post the soup recipe (as well as another one) at the bottom of my post.

Jackie – Thank you for the feel good vibes! They seem to be working! Oh how fun that you’ll be running with your neighbor!! Enjoy your run today! I hope it warms up a bit!

Thomasina – Dinner was really nice. Last night was even nicer – just staying at home and relaxing. How far from you is Placerville? I love that little town, but man it sounds like a hike. Sounds like you had some creative ideas for fun raising for your TNT! Good job!

Shelly – Sounds like you’re having a great time running! Fall is so nice, isn’t it? I do miss running through the fall foliage. Too cool that some of the Phillies lived in your old apartment. I had a crush on half the players in 1980 when they won the World Series. I don’t know most of the players now. (could be because I'm not a hormone charged teen?) Enjoy your on the dreadmill. Hope you get in the nap before work tonight.

Wendy – Glad the interval program on the TMs work well for you! Enjoy your weights today! Hope you’re recovered from your date with the choco martini’s (yum!)

Gloria – Good job at the mock election. Sounds like you’re enjoying it. I always eat like a beast this time of year – usually just for a few weeks, then I calm down. I’m hoping I’m calmed now.

Cathy – I love the freedom of Saturday mornings, too! Enjoy your run and weight work!

Carole – Glad to hear your mom is at your sister Karen’s house. Too funny about your oldest sis getting soaked by the sprayer! :D That was a good chuckle this morning. Sounds like a fun night last night.

I’m either hiking or biking today. Depends on what DH wants to do. Yesterday I ended up running over to the Vet’s office with Jimmy (a mile away) for Kimo’s insulin. Then I did some kettlebells. I’m feeling pretty good today. Thought I’d share this recipe I’m making today. I’ll let you know how it is, but it sounds SOOO good – and yes both are vegetarian… Enjoy your day everyone!

Mushroom Cassoulet
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium eggplant, 1-inch diced
1 pound mushrooms, shiitakes, creminis, chanterelles or a combination, sliced
1 (16-ounce) can cannelini beans, drained, rinsed
4 large garlic cloves, crushed
2 sprigs rosemary, leaves removed, chopped
3 sprigs thyme, leaves removed, chopped
1 1/2 pounds plum tomatoes, peeled, seeded, chopped coarsely
4 ounces white wine
3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
3 tablespoons melted butter
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a large sauté pan over medium high heat, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil, add eggplant and cook, stirring until golden. Remove to drain on paper towels.

Add remaining olive oil and mushrooms to pan and sauté until they start to brown. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.

In a shallow gratin dish combine cannelini beans, cooked eggplant and mushrooms, garlic, rosemary and thyme. Arrange tomatoes on top, pour over the wine. Bake for 30 minutes. Stir the mixture. Mix bread crumbs with melted butter and sprinkle them on top. Return to oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden and crisp

Yield: 4 servings.

And for Dallas –

Moroccan Lentil Soup

Ingredients
--1 cup dried lentils
--1 can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
--1 can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
--1 onion, chopped
--2 garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
--1/2 cup chopped celery
--1/2 cup chopped carrots
--28 oz can of diced tomatoes (and juice)
--4 cups vegetable broth
--1 1/2 tsp garam masala
--1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
--1/2 tsp cumin
--1/4 tsp nutmeg
--1/4 tsp cinnamon
--1 inch ginger, peeled and grated

Use at least a 5 quart crockpot for this. It makes a lot.

Chop up all of your vegetables and add them to the crockpot. If you are rushed in the morning, consider chopping the vegetables at night---it took me longer than I wanted it to. Drain and rinse off the beans, add to the pot. Add the dried lentils. Grate your ginger, and add it along with the dried spices. Stir in the vegetable broth and tomatoes.

Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours. Soup tastes best the longer you cook it, and it is even better the next day.

Before serving, use an immersible blender and pulse to blend some of the vegetables and beans together. This isn't necessary, but it really improves the texture of the soup and melds the flavors nicely.

Hi everyone!

I wanted to sleep in a little bit, but the kids alarm clock went off at 6:30A. Oh well. Still have to work out though. I'm not quite sure what that will be, but do know it will involve cardio and weights. well, **gulp**, guess I'll invest in more running tights. ;) Feel self conscious though.

Shelly ~ No, I ran outside. I used iTread outdoors/60 minutes. I like that one. :) Wow, you did BM#2 later. Bows down before you. ;) I didn't need to do anything else after my run. :p Have fun w/those workouts today.

Carole ~ lol...was your sister a good sport about it? Thanks for explaining your running routine. :) Enjoy your mish mosh today.

Jackie ~ Well, that's the spirit...wear those tights proudly! :) How did your run go? It looks cold out there. I'll be freezing during the soccer game I'm sure. ;) Maybe I'll run around the field to stay warm. ;)

Wendy ~ Lol...yep got the bootay thing going on too. :p Choc martinis, huh? Sounds good...I'd be asleep after one though. ha ha

Cathy ~ Oh good...glad all is well. :) It was a quieter night at the trunk show. Everyone is so busy. I found a few cute tops. Under the fall collection I got the cooper top and still debating on the sleeveless black top under holiday collection: http://www.etcetera.com/index.php. My friend does well with her business and it's right out of her basement. :)

Gloria ~ lol'd about your comment about what your dh "almost got". :) When do you try to get into NYC again? I would love to visit NYC too. Bet you needed that rest y-day.

Hi to all who follow.

After the game were taking the kids in their costumes to my inlaw's house. :)

Have a good one!

Thanks Christine for the recipe. I'll copy it to my recipe file. :) enjoy your hike w/DH. Or whatever you two decide to do. :) Hope your recipe turns out. I hate when I try a new one and it's horrible.

Cathy ~ Oh, dh and I were on his nutrition profile last night. He told me, "I know about the GPA!" I guess it was a miscommunication...or not really listening to me??? I can see where it's very hard to get a perfect 4.0. After seeing what he eats, and he's not even at a 3.0!! He eats very clean, but his cholesterol and sodium have always been too high. I dare not even attempt to enter my food! We eat very similar, but he's more disciplined than I.

Anyhoo, better get to that workout.

Wendy—sounds like you had fun trying out the new equipment. J

Jackie—what kind of temps are you having? No circuit today—just a run followed by weights. Hope you had a great run.

Carole—now THAT had to be priceless! Love the smiley. Sounds like a nice movie night with your mom. Have fun with the kickbox and leg mosh.

Shelly—Made me laugh to hear you say you hope the weight workout goes well. Must be your special way of saying, “Hopefully you actually *do* it.” ;) *lol* Enjoy your run, too.

Gloria—Know where you’re coming from. It’s a lot of work but well worth it. Pretty dreary here, too, with light rain. But the road is calling me, too. J

Christine—a quiet night in must have been a delicious experience…enjoy the hike or bike, whichever you wind up doing. Mm, my stomach growled a little just reading those recipes.

Dallas—you & DH are too funny. Yeah, I don't think a 4.0 is in my future, but I'm happy with a 3.0 or above...What, you didn't spring for the cheetah pattern coat? *lol* The black top is gorgeous. I'm often cold, so usually that type of holiday attire is too much exposure for me. But I love the look. Was the copper top the one under the fall tab? I bet that'd be a beautiful color on you.

So I never made it to my Centergy class. Still feelin' pretty rough around the edges. UGH. Couldn't imagine doing downward dogs with a headache and a queasy belly.

Hoping to recover in time to do my weight work later though. I guess I'll just have to double up and take 2 classes at some point this week to meet my "free gym membership" requirements.

Off to do a little cleaning. DH is at the foodstore with DS right now so I figure I should do SOMETHING while he's gone! LOL I already took a little snooze. :)

BBL

Kept it to 4.25 today. It was surprisingly warm and humid out there, which made the on & off light rain kind of refreshing. Almost as much the giant splashdown given to me by some schmuck who decided to speed through a puddle. *lol* Gotta love it. So, I've showered and dried up and will tackle some work. Weights may happen later this evening or tomorrow; will play by ear on that.

Hope everyone is off enjoying the afternoon! :)

Now that's more like it! I just got up from an hour long nap. It clinched recovery for me, thank goodness! I am a bit groggy but I FINALLY feel human again. No headache, no queasiness. YAY! Still don't feel like hittin' the weights as of yet, lol, but there's still hope....

Cathy: Nice run. Sorry you got splashed. Hope you get lots accomplished and still have time to hit the weights later if you want to.

Jackie: So how did your chilly run go this morning? Well, so far DH hasn't asked for anything....wierd. He must've just been having a "moment". LOL

Carole: OMG the pond/sprinkler story is too darned funny! So I suppose everyone laughed but the wet one, huh? Was she mad?? How nice to go watch a movie with your mom while your sis went out.

Shelly: Yah, BM2 double upper is K*I*L*L*E*R!!! I'm glad to hear you agree on that one. If you thought it was easy I'd have to throttle you. LOL Shhhh about the cold weather training with TNT, will ya!? I'm tryin' not to think about that just yet!;) LOL at the thought of TNT coming to the gym with me and taking over the treadmills.

Gloria: So were you able to hit the road? What did the weather turn out to be like by you? Good luck with the mock election. I'm sure it will go smoothly.

Christine: Oooh the mushroom cassoulet recips DOES sound yummy. I hope it turns out as good as it sounds. So what was it today? A bike or a hike? You are so lucky your DH likes to do that stuff with you.

Dallas: As Shelly so nicely pointed out to me, I will be needing to invest in some kind of decent cold weather running gear in order to train with TNT come January so we can show off our boo-tays together! ;):D LOL about your alarm clock this morning. DH forgot to turn his off so it went off as well. Ofcourse HE went right back to sleep while I got up a short time later. Oh well.

Looks like that catches me up. Gotta start gearin' up for my work out. I don't feel like doing it but I've been taking FAR too many rest days lately!

BBL!

Shelly-I almost forgot. PM me your email address. DH downloaded the software and the pics this afternoon so I can email them to ya now! :)

Wendy—glad a nice long nap helped you bounce back. This rain is making me feel a little sleepy, too...Getting splashed when it's cold out is a worse feeling, so I can't complain. :) Reminded me of all the hoses in Chicago. :p I will probably hold off on the weights until tomorrow. Really makes no difference whether it happens today or tomorrow, so long as it gets done before the weekend is out. I received part of my marathon photo order today. Picture quality wasn't as crisp as I would've liked.

Hi Cheetahs!

Carole - Glad your mom is at your sis now. Funny story about your oldest sis get watered down. Bet she didn't find that too funny. Only doing Slo Mo for a week. Will probably pull out 4DS next week. How was your workout today?

Shelly - Sorry you didn't sleep well. Did the run help you out? Sounds like a good workout yesterday. I'm sure the running partner's pace is faster than mine but he said he didn't want to run the half in under 2 hours. So, I may be able to hang with him. It might help me with my pace. He's a youngster too - around 40 if that old.

Gloria - Glad you're feeling rested. Did you run?

Christine - Glad you're feeling better too. Know Jimmy enjoyed his run. Recipe looks good. How did it turn out?

Dallas - Don't you hate when you forget to turn those alarms off for the weekends? Those tights felt good this morning. The first time I wore them, I thought I would be self conscious but not. I'm too interested in staying warm. How did soccer go?

Cathy - The temp was 39 degrees this morning. May reach 70 today but I doubt it. The sunshine is nice though. Good job with the run.

Wendy - Bet those downward dogs were a little different today. ;) Hope you're feeling better.

I had a good run this morning. I ran slow and steady. Got in 10.25 in 1:46. I put on my tights, long sleeves, vest and gloves. Wasn't overdressed. Thought I had gotten by the neighbor's dog this morning. When I got out on the main road, I heard something coming up behind me. I turned around and there was the dog and she brought along a friend. Scared the heck out of me. They only ran a little bit with me and turned and went somewhere else. I was happy. Been doing CleanMax. Have to finish the laundry and then I can relax. Think the moving around helps the legs not be so sore.

Going to relax now. Have a good evening.

Shelly...I was with you on not sleeping well last night. Way to go on the tough 2nd workout yesterday. Mom has had her house on the market a couple of years. After her fall of course she cannot return to her two story house. Hopefully she can find a place after the house sells. Most likely an apt if the Dr says she can live by herself. Enjoy your TM tempo run, leg and ab work.

Gloria...yes, lifting more can make you hungry too. I had some down time this afternoon as DH is out duck hunting.

Christine...I had only wished Karen had a pic of the spraying incident...:)..Mom is much more comfy at Karen's house than she was at rehab. Looks like yummy recipes! Thanks for sharing.

Dallas...not sure if sis was a good sport about the spraying or not! Funny as I always felt more self conscious in shorts as compared to running tights.

Cathy..It had to be priceless!! Karen had to call me on her way out last night to tell me as she did not want Mom to hear her laughing about the spraying!! Yuk...I hate getting splashed by cars when I run! I am sure they do it on purpose.

Wendy...Not sure if sis was mad or not. Either way it was still funny!..:eek:Hope you feel good enough to hit the weights later...

Jackie...I would think my sis might have been a bit irritated. She would have been madder if she could have heard me laugh!! Mom is very happy at Karen's. My workout was fun, I always enough kickboxing. Good job on your 10.25 mile today. Sounds like you dressed right. Funny about the dogs following you for a bit. I have had that experience myself.

Had a good workout. We are having warm temps. 90 today so I got a little sun. Then did some cleanmax, now I might watch some shows I have tivoed...:)

Okay, my work out is done! Phew! I really came close to blowin' it off today! Glad I didn't though cause it felt really good once I got started. :)

Carole: WOW, 90 in October. I can't even imagine....Tivo-it's the best thing since sliced bread, aina'? :)

Jackie: Glad you doggy friends left you alone quickly today. Nice run, girl! No downward dogs for me today. I would have puked. LOL Enjoy your evening.

Cathy: Oh I love the hoses and sprinklers enroute when it's hot out. There were several along our route on the 18 miler but it was so pleasant outside that I really didn't feel much need for them. The one time that I DID look to get wet I didn't. The girl was standing with the hose at the ready so I made a point of moving over and running through the wet spot (yeah that sounded bad, didn't it? LOL) and she didn't spray me. She just stood there with the hose in her hand with no water coming out of it. WTH!? If I had the choice to push the weights off until tmrw I probably would have done the same. :)

Ok...off to give the little guy a bath. Have a good night ladies. :D
