Good morning cheetahs!!

Any races today?

I'll be doing my last long run of aboout 20 miles before my 50K in under two weeks.

Enjoy your day...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/sae/july4_1.gif[/img]

Good Morning Cheetahs :)

We have been on vacation for a week in Hilton Head Island and are back now. While we were there, I managed 3 runs with my kids: 6.5 miles, 7.8 miles and 5.5 miles.

On the day of the second run at HH Island, I felt pain in my lateral left hip and it is been exacerbated when I sit for a while, like in a restaurant, beach chair or riding in a car. Does any one have any suggestions?

I have taken 2 rest days and today may be a third, Or I may do upper body, abs and a good stretch.

I'm wondering if this is a symptom of an Iliotibial band issue? And perhaps my running shoes need replacing.

Welcome back Judy! Sounds like a nice vacation and you even got in some good runs. Not sure hip pain is part of IT band issues, but I could be wrong. It could be time for some new shoes as sometimes these kinds of tweaks are from worn out shoes...I am sure the other cheetahs will chime in...:)

Good Morning Cheetahs!:)

Carole, so after this long run do you have to cut down alot on your mileage over the next couple of weeks prior to the race? Isn't that what you call "tapering"? See, I'm even tryin' to learn the lingo! ;) :)

Judy, Glad you had a fab vacation but sorry to hear about your hip. Sorry, I can't help you as far as what the problem could be though. I've heard Hilton Head is nice and great golf! }(

Today I have Cardio and Weights on tap if I have time. I was supposed to get up early to get it done but ofcourse I slept until almost 9!x( I am going to the horse races with mom and Joey early this afternoon so along with everything else I need to do, the work out will be a tight squeeze...wish me luck!:)

Good Morning Cheetahs!

DH and I are finally going to make it out of town today!!! So I'm up and at them early (for me that is;-) ) BTW the flood pics are up under my picture trail.

Judy-Sounds like a beautiful vacation! I'm not sure either (could you describe the pain just a little more?), but it sounds like it might be sciatic nerve pain, check it out on google and see if it sounds right to you.

Carole-Yeah, some of the new "All-star Workouts" on Fittv have the same music as Cathe and it is really strange and out of place for me, lol! 17.5 is still a really tough weight! It must be all that flying around you do as Super Carole:p And can I just ask, why is it Mr. YP always makes me sore? My back, my obliques...

Wendy-I know what you mean about pics of myself, it's are rare thing where there's one I really like, lol! Must have been the ease and beauty of the surroundings, and all that running you've been doing lately;-) Here's a link to a pic of the lead singer of Live that reminds me of your DH:
Sorry the first link sucked! http://www.friendsoflive.com/index2.php

Shelly-If that's what rain does during a 5K then let it pour! Lol:7 I know, I can't stand just doing nothing, even when it's so hot I'd rather be swimming or canoeing or something, although this Cheetah can rest pretty hard too:D And isn't it nice that the hills are welcoming you back}(

Jess-I just love slip and slide, sprinklers, water fights, swimming, water slides, you name it! Although the lawn must be carefully cleared of rocks first, lol-I've made that mistake}(

Today was a quick interval run before the heat (5 w/u 2min. 'on'/1 min. 'off' and then 4 strides of 30/60 and c/d). Now breakfast and then GS Chest and Back later. I'm loosely following Cathe's June 2005 Rotation and it's got a great structure for the kind of rotation that I think several of us are on, you might want to check it out.

Big shout out to all the cheetahs who check-in later!
Mattea

Good morning all! Today will be mostly weights for me. Not sure what yet, perhaps PLB/PUB. I didn't get much in the way of strength workouts on my vacation and I'm needing a good heavy duty session!

Carole- I figured you should be in your taper period soon. Have fun with your 20 miler today! I have a terrible time dealing with taper madness. How do you cope with it?

Judy- Welcome back! Sounds like you had a good vacation and got in some good runs also. Sorry about your hip pain. These things can be hard to nail down. ITB syndrome involves the connective tissue which runs down the outside of your thigh from your hip to the side of your knee, so frequently there is knee pain involved (Karen can tell you about that!) The Sciatic nerve runs on each side of your lower back and goes down the buttocks and back of your leg so pain is usually felt more in the back rather than the side. Do you feel your pain deep in the hip area... it could also be piriformis syndrome. Anyway, if you tend to overpronate worn out shoes could be contributing. Definitely lay off running for a few days and go with icing and stretching and see if it doesn't subside. Okay, I've babbled enough, keep us posted! We don't want any more injured cheetahs!

Mattea- great flood pics!! It looks like your roads were mostly clear at least. Have fun with your drop sets of push ups today!

Wendy- Hi there- sounds like a busy day for you, hope you can squeeze in C&W- haven't done that one in ages!

Time to get moving- Hi to all who follow!

ShellyC

Yes Wendy...I will be tapering! I might try and keep my mileage up this week but for sure next week it'll be down. Have fun with Cardio & Weights.

Mattea...WOW...those flood pics are scary! Was that near you?? Mr YP makes me sore too...:)..Good job on the interval run..

Shelly...don't you just love PLB/PUB! Yes I will be tapering. It is kinda tough as you get your body so used to all the mileage. I had to tell you on our run today we passed a father and daughter on horses. The daughter was way ahead but as we passed the father on his horse (going uphill) the horse didn't like us passing and had to catch up!!! I started laughing which made the hill much tougher. So when is it you race the horse?

Well, it got fast quick today so I tapered from 20 to 17! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/b0/pray.gif[/img] ...it was a tough run...

Hope everyone is enjoying their day...:)

Good afternoon! Didn't get a chance to post this morning. My friend Melissa & I went at 6AM for a 16 mile bike ride. It was already warming up then, but it felt great on the bikes! We took a decent hilly route & had a good ride. Then I had to hurry & get myself & everyone ready for church. I played my flute this morning- a patriotic America the Beautiful which went really well. And it's our turn for teaching Children's church, we had a great group of kids this morning. Now it's naptime- ahhhhh!! I love Sunday afternoon naps!!

Have a great day!

Hugs,

Good morning (well, mostly morning - it's 11:49AM) Cheetahs!

Wendy - your trip looks fabulous! And you and Sal make such an attractive couple! I'm glad you had a great time!

Mattea - I agree - those flood photos are SCARY! Glad you were not flooded. Where do you live again? I know you told me, but I'm blonde...

Carole - thanks for your help on the S&H vs GS. I'll go with GS for now. I was tempted this morning, but I figure I'll finish out the rotation! How'd your run go? Less than two weeks eh? I was thinking of you on the hike/run yesterday. Thinking you'd love that one.

Jess - Great job on the 16 mile bike ride! Sounds like a fun time.

Shelly - have fun with weights! I enjoy a good lift!

Judy - your trip sounds devine! I love the Outer Banks! Welcome back! We missed you!

Hello to anyone I missed (trying to cook - roasted veggie lasagna for tonight - roasting the veggies now) and post at the same time. It's a challenge.

Well, yesterdays run/hike up Sanborn was a blast. DH and I got into the old competitive mode and pretty much raced up the mountain. We came close to our old record time up and down. 4.5 miles in 1 hour 16 seconds. This is with an 1800 foot elevation gain, too. I so enjoyed the race down! But, we pushed really hard so I took it a little easier today. Did Ab Ripper (without the video), P90X Chest, Shoulders and Tri's and 10-10-10. Tomorrow is definitely Big Basin. I'm so looking forward to that!

We had a little Happy Vandalism this morning. We awoke to every yard in the neighborhood having a little American Flag out in front of it, including ours. I thought that was really sweet!

Hi again Cheetahs :)

Shelly, Wendy I hope you had nice weight work today.

Jes- Your bike ride must have been very peaceful at dawn!

Carole- I was afraid I missed your big race, but I see it is coming up. I hope I don't miss it! We'll be moving mid July, and I'm not sure how long we will be without internet access.

Mattea- Did you escape flood damage? Were you near the route near Binghamtom that collapsed?

Ok- for any Super Sleuth Cheetahs here are my symptoms:

I have this pain on the outside of my left hip. It does NOT radiate down my leg or around to my back. It is on my hip bone. (I do get sciatica from time to time on long car rides and when I sit at long meetings. This is NOT like that at all.)

*** It is where your hand would be if standing with 'hands on hips' pose. *** But the pain is not so much in front like a hip flexor though.

The pain occurs When I get up from sitting, after and during a long run and riding in a car and then getting out of it. If I thrust that hip forward to shape my body like a "C" the pain is there too. I am resting it now and really haven't iced it. I have done no workouts for 3 days ( unheard of!)

Does anybody have experience with this? My DH just thinks I am old for all this running. I am 45 and been doing Cathe since the late 90's, and exercise for 15 or more years. I walked and did all of Cathe's cardio and weight DVD's for cross trainning before running. Now I primarily run for cardio and do Cathe weight DVD's (and yoga when I make the time- not often enough).

Hi there, time for one last check in before I get ready for work:(

Christine- you sound like you had a great day yesterday with your run/hike with the DH. I sure wish I could get my DH active! (jealous, jealous) But at least he goes to most of my races and provides support. Have a great time tomorrow! Isn't the Sonoma half marathon coming up for you? Love your "flag vandalism" also!

Jess- great job on the biking....you're doing that more and more it seems. Any plans for a triathlon?

Carole- Great job with the 17miler today! My "man against horse" race is October 9th. It is a 25 miler and close enough to a marathon that I am currently on a marathon training plan. It will be for fun with my goal only to finish (especially since it involves scaling a mountain) I enjoyed your story about the competitive horse!

Quiet day!

Shelly

Jess....16 miles is a great ride!! I had no idea you played the flute...how cool for the kids.

Christine...the run got a bit warm. Went well though...I bet I would have loved your hike/run...

Judy...your sweet DH is nuts...:)...you are never too old for running!!! Give your body a rest and see how the hip feels in a few days. How long have you had your current shoes?

Thanks Shelly...the horse thing was just a crack-up, but I thought of you immediately...marathon training is good for a 25 miler...
