Cheetah Check In Monday July 3rd

Cathlete
Hi Cheetah Girls!

Tonight is my running class but I will be doing some kickboxing this morning as well. What shall I do, KPC or KM? Any suggestions? }(

So does anyone have today off? Any bbq's planned for tomorrow? Fireworks? :) Races perhaps? }(

Hi Wendy and Cheetah Friends :)

Wendy- Kpc and KM are both good choices. It depends on what you are in the mood for. If you want intervals go for KM.

We are having some family over tomorrow my sister and BIL from CA are in town and we will have our last 'July 4th cook out' at this house with our pool etc. After that it is hard core moving preparations!

Based on the what I read from the link Shelly provided me, I think it is best that I do not run today. I will look into new shoes and do an alternate Workout today. I want to be able to nip this in the bud, so I will be careful.

Shelly thank you for the link; it was helpful. Rest, Ice and new shoes are what I will try first. I will go to Fleet Feet today.

Happy 3rd of July!

It's my sweetie pie, Allison's 3rd birthday!! It's her golden bday- 3 on the 3rd.

I went for a bike again this morning, 11 miles w/ Erin & Melissa. We're doing a 5 mile race tomorrow!! I'm not planning on racing real hard, more of a training pace than cheetah pace!! :p I love the bike riding, we have such beautiful country around here. I think we counted at *least* 10 deer this morning, so pretty!!

We're making strawberry cupcakes w/ frosting & sprinkles & strawberry shortcake decor. Allison's so excited!! (well, she's still asleep now, but it's been a bit excitement all week!)

We had a small celebration on Sat night w/ my family at Cracker Barrel so tonight it will just be us. I'm thinking if the weather cooperates we'll take a picnic supper to the park. I know she'd love that. I got her some Tinkerbell jammies (she loves jammies!), a My Little Pony DVD, a little Disney book set & Cars book (the girl LOVES books), and a Barbie Fairytopia dress up dress. I know that she'll love it all!

Wendy ~ no advice since I don't have KPC, but I do love KM!!

Judy ~ hope your hip feels better soon! I just hate injuries!! Definitely get some new shoes, it will make a big difference!! Just curious, do you run on the TM or outdoors?? My friend Melissa was having hip pain & she went in for new shoes & the salesman said that running on country roads can cause hip problems because your feet aren't on even ground for a lot of the time. Just a thought!

Carole ~ I was a flute performance major in college for a year & I still play regularly at church. I've also done some weddings & did play in the community band for a while. (although it takes up too much time for now!) I still love it!

Have a great day! I'll be busy spoiling my bday girl today! And TFL at the new pics- I'm sure I'll be adding more of the big bday girl later!!

Hugs,

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Hi Y'all! It's been majorly DULL at work, but that is good I suppose being that I work in critical care. It just makes for a very long night. Today will be a rest day for me. I'm pondering possibly racing a 10k on July 4th.

Wendy- how about a combo of KPC and KM? }( My all time favorite kickboxing workout is neither of those actually. It is an old CIA video with Debbie Burns (boxingbody). I just love it! Can't get enough of it.

Judy- I'm so glad I was able to give you some useful guides. What Jess said about running on uneven roads is quite true also, It can do a major number on your hip! Have fun on your BBQ!

Jess- Happy B day to Allison!!! She is such a major CUTIEPIE :*
Have fun with your race tomorrow!

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Good morning all - Sorry I've been MIA, but like most of you I'm sure it's been a busy weekend. I've missed all of you so much, you keep me going and on track. I did get a run in on Saturday and that was great, but this allergy/cold/sinus problem is driving me nuts. I'm hoping to get in SJP this morning and maybe that will pull me out of my slump. :) I printed out Cathe's July Rotation and am going to try and incorporate it in my 1/2 training schedule, that way I have variety to choose from as well.

Not much on the schedule for today, but tomorrow I believe a BBQ and fireworks and a friends house. So, I'm trying to come up with a 'healthy - good for you' dish to bring. Any suggestions????

Have a great day and I'm sure I'll be back later.

~Marcia~

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

For healthy cookout foods, a fruit salad & veggie tray can't go wrong!! I love that watermelon is so cheap right now along w/ my favorite strawberries & blueberries. Baked beans aren't too bad either as long as you don't add too much brown sugar to them! ;-) (at least some protein & fiber in the beans!) I also found some whole wheat buns that I like- I think they're called Healthy life & they have 5g of fiber per bun (they make hamburger & hot dog buns). I also tried out the Hebrew National 97% FF hot dogs & (I'm not a big hot dog fan, but they weren't too bad!). Have fun at the BBQ- we have one to go to on Sat!

I can relate to the sinus/ allergies, I'm finally about over my sinus infection but felt pretty miserable last week!

Have a good one, Marcia!

Hugs,

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Hey All!

Jess - Happy Birthday to Allison! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!

Marcia - good to see you back! Fruit trays, veggies trays or a healthy Pasta Salad are all things I bring. Have fun!

Carole - enjoy your "easy" run!

Judy - yeah, where are you moving? Sounds like it will be a busy day for you tomorrow!

Wendy - I second KPC - it's just more FUN! If you're going to do it as an add on, I think it's the perfect one!

Tomorrow we're invited to one of DH's friend's house. This guy is harmless and a sweetheart at heart, but is what I affectionately label, 20 pounds of bullcrap in a 10 pound bag ("Oh, I get up and run with Harold (his overweight beagle) every morning for 5 miles.") The guy couldn't run 5 miles if his life depended on it. But he's so funny and sweet that you just laugh. He puts on a great BBQ and his house is situated overlooking San Jose so you can watch the fireworks from all over.

But I guess we're FINALLY heading out to Big Basin! The trail we run is the Berry Creek Falls trail - it's 4.9 miles to the first waterfall and through the redwoods. We'll probably just go to the first one, but sometimes we add the extra few miles to see all four. It's not a tough trail - but it is downhill on the way out, and uphill on the way back. I think all together there's something like a 500 foot elevation gain - which is nothing. But it makes for some fun running!

And I'm very long winded today, so I guess I should get moving... Have a great day everyone!

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Ahh Ladies-
I must confess. I ran 6 miles anyway to see what would happen. DH, who is a physician thought maybe it wasn't a running pain. but I am not so sure. Getting up from a sitting position is painful this morning. but I have been doing a good deal of packing boxes in a standing position.

For all who asked, we are moving ony 20" form our current home. Our new home is further away from the city and just ideal for our family which is big with 4 kids age 13 to almost 21. We tend to have friends and family over qutie a bit, we just love the layout of this newer home. We are leaving a beautiful pool and spa which is bitter sweet. We will miss the pool & spa but not the maintenence or gas and electric bills.

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

I have some time to kill and thought I'd check in on the check ins I don't normally check in. I'm glad I did. Judy, I didn't know you had a injury. I hope it's just moving aches and pains, and nothing more serious that will sideline you. I can't believe you are leaving that lovely backyard! Are you moving closer to the pig farm? LOL Give the Ed a hug from me.

PS, What's a Cheetah check in? I missed something somewhere.

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Hey Cheetahs!
It's a scorcher here today, but DH and I finally made it my parents yesterday and we'll likely be here the better part of the month!

Robin-A Cheetah check-in is just a runner, but it's really a reference to how fast well all are}( ;-)

Way too busy today for personals (I just ate lunch and I've been up since 8:00! ), but I wanted to say a couple of things:

Jess-Please shop for my b-day too?:7

Judy-Hope you get the hip pain cleared up, but I think new shoes are a great first step.

All my other cheetahs have a great holiday!

Today, will be, once I actually get it in, GS Legs and CM #1 w/ maybe a Stretch Max if I feel like it.

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Howdy all!

Had to show up to work today lol…so I thought I would take a few and pop in to say howdy! Let’s see, in between running myself ragged for my darling kids and family, on Friday I did get a great Step Blast workout in and on Saturday I got to run with my buddy that I used to run with. She’s the one that got me into this mess called running about 6 or so years ago. It was a great run because as usual, she said “we’ll go slow” but she KICKED MY BUTT! LOL I loved it, my asthma had me huffing and puffing but I really did like the faster pace and we ran on a trail we used to go on which is shaded and runs along a water canal. My face was beeeeeeet red when we finished. Dang people trying to get this ol’ mule to act like a cheetah! Shhesh! Anyway, I had fun and we are going to meet up again soon. Today, I have not worked out yet as my allergies are banging my head and I was too tired this am. BUT I plan on getting off work early today and then I’ll get in some Pyramid LB I think and a short run. I just had to come here for some extra inspiration and just as I suspected, I wouldn’t be let down. You diehard cheetahs are the bestestest…..

WENDY!! Yay! Our Jersey Girl made it back and am I sooo impressed with your workouts while on that ship! Actually, I used the gym on our cruise too and I really liked going into the steam room afterwards. Glad you had fun and your pics are gorgeous. I’m excited for your class tonight and can’t wait to read your post tomorrow.

Judy – Sorry to hear about the hip pain and I agree with the others that ice, rest and new shoes are in order but you may also want to check and see if you are having a bursitis in the hip. It is when the bursa sacs in the joint get inflamed from overuse and then, well…they cause soreness. Here’s some links but if they don’t work just go to google and put in “hip bursitis”. Sorry you are having his problem. Have a happy 4th and good luck with your move.

Jess – Awe, happy Bday to your girl! Birthdays are soo special to them at that age. Sounds like you have a very special day planned and I hope you all enjoy! You’re the best mom!

Shelly! - Greeeeat job on your run. I read a previous post and have to agree that you are definitely the fastest granny cheetah that I have seen! LOL. Glad you had fun on your vacation and the runs went so well. You are in maaahveeelous shape daahling!

Carole – I have to get out MIS and do that sometime. I have owned it for a while now and have never yet used it! What? Great job on your long run yesterday and your smiley is just awesome! That’s how I felt when I ran with my cheetah fast friend the other day. I hope you are getting a little relief from the heat as we are getting a little bit of a delta breeze. Hot dry wind…lol On a vegan food related note, I wanted to ask you if you make your own seitan or do you buy a mix etc. I’d like to make some stuff out of the vegan planet book that calls for it. Just wondering what you do.

Hi Marcia! (one of Carole’s waving smileys goes here) SJP is a fun one for me, but as my hard core cardio killin’ coach Mattea suggested, add some risers to that workout and your heart rate will definitely get up there. LOL. Glad you checked in today and I also like to do so as these fine fit ladies also keep me on track! I like to use Cathe rotations and then just sub some of the step stuff with runs. Also, I agree with Jess and think that veggies and fruit trays are the way to go with an outdoor cookout food fest. Low fat, whole grains, or whole wheat pasta salads are always nice too. Have a fun time!

Christine – WOW, you have really been tearing up those trails! You just may get the trail rippin' cheetah nickname if you’re not careful! LOL Good job! Sounds like you’ll have a great time and a great view for the 4th.

Robin – Actually, the cheetah thing really traces back to being Jess’ fault lol. You see, initially this check in was called the “runner’s check-in”…boring huh? Well, Jess had to go and do these runs where there were flames and smoke coming off her heels because she was running so dang fast. And that’s when I made the mistake of referring to her as a “cheetah” and ‘having spots” or something. SO then naturally all these dang cheetahs started behaving the same and then we just had to call them all cheetahs! LOL sooo, that’s also when the check-in started appearing as the cheetah check in. Actually, the name change made me a bit nervous then since I am far, far from a cheetah (the resident mule) and thought maybe I wouldn’t be allowed to check-in here no more. Well, thankfully it wasn’t the case here with these fine folks cuz even though I’m a mule (slow and steady) they keep me around. It’s a good thing too because this group of ladies are the best bunch of supportive, intelligent, caring, and funny friends a girl could have. Oh, did I mention they are FAST?....lol

Mattea – HAHA yeah, I want Jess to shop on my birthday too! Heck, I think every kid would want her shopping for them! She’s a great mom though. I’m glad you and DH made it safely to your parents. Have a good workout and holiday!

Well, as usual, I better shuddup and post this or it will be too late for most to read! Have a great 4th everyone!!

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Hi everyone.

I never worked out today...my motivation was in the toilet (must be the heat...that's all I can think of!) so I kept busy w/grocery shopping, laundry and cleaning today instead. I don't feel TOO bad since I have the running class tonight even though I would have liked to get more in. We'll be doing 4.5 mins of walking and 3 mins of running alternating for 30 mins. I haven't run outside by me since before vacation!

Judy- I hope your hip feels better real soon and I wish you a beautifully smooth move and transition into your new home. I'm very excited for you!:+

Jess- Wish Allison a very happy Birthday for me!:+

Shelly- Remember a few weeks ago when I did that super evil kickbox circuit? Part of that was made up of both KPC and KM but I guess w/o the weights it wouldn't be so brutal!}( Have you decided about the 10K race for tomorrow?

Carole- Hope you had a good work out. Go see some fireworks tomorrow night!:)

Marcia- Have fun at the BBQ tomorrow! I'm drawing a blank on a healthy dish except for fruit salad. :9

Christine- Hope you had a good run at Big Basin and have fun at the BBQ tomorrow!

Mattea- Have any fun things planned while you are at your parents?

Thomasina- Sounds like you have yourself an awesome running partner girl! Good for you!:) Thanks re the vacation pics. And you mentioned going in the steam room after a work out on the cruise!? WHOA, I would not even have dreamt of doing that! The frickin' gym was soooo hot I wanted to die! LOL :7

RE: Happy 3rd of July!

Well, I think I just lost exclusive rights to my Mini! DH drove it on the way home and had a blast on the twisty windy roads. I think I may have to share now. DARN!!! :+

The trail was incredible! We ended up doing 12 miles - went back to the second water fall. We ran the first 5 miles - mostly down hill, but there's a lot more uphill than I remember! I did have to pause to climb over a redwood that had fallen across the trail. The tree was wider than I am tall! (and I'm 5'10). The crews were out there with chain saws - I have to admire them, as they are 5.5 miles onto the trail - no other way to get there but by hiking (too rugged to ATV or even helicopter in). So all of the equipment they use they have to lug out there, use, then lug back. WOW!

Big Basin is as close to virgin forest as you'll get around here. It was not heavily logged because it's a bear to get to. Even now, it's up over a mountain then 8 miles of really twisty windy road to get to it. But our beloved redwoods do not have very deep roots and tend to be knocked over in high winds or very wet weather - and we had wet weather this year. So there were a lot of downed trees, but most of the trail was cleared. I think every inch of me in aching right now. DH had not gotten rid of the competitive bone, so he ran fast - and I ran fast to keep up. Plus I carried too much water. I had about 10 pounds on my back. I need to par that back the next time. Anyway, it was fun. I can't wait to do it again!
