Changing Diet From 40/40/20

My diet has been 40/40/20 (protein/carb/fat) for the past year. I am wondering what will happen if I change to 50/30/20 for a while to see what happens. Does anyone have any insights? Thanks, Melissa

Wait a minute...you mean 50% protein 30 carbs and 20 fat...I thought you meant 50% carbs.

I take it back...I am re guessing that you will have less energy but the extra protein will promote muscle growth. That is a lot of protein. How many grams does that come out to for you? Keep in mind, the body doesn't store protein so if your body doesn't need it, it's not going to help you.

On the other hand, some people have amazing results with high protein diets! I know some here love it! It also depends on you activity level. If you are doing long bouts of cardio and endurance type workouts, your really going to need the carbs (good ones, that is).

Hi Melissa,

I am 50/30/20 clean eating and I am down 7lbs in 7 weeks. My energy level is great, I workout 6 days a week at 6am (except of course Sat & Sun).

I tried a slightly higher carb ratio initially but founf that I, personally, needed to have less carbs to facilitate safe, steady weight loss. Occassionally I will sin with a Red Bull (3 x week) in the late afternoon if I am sluggish. But that has always been my low energy time regardless of my macronutrient ratio.

So, if you are a little pear shaped, on the shorter side, dynamo....you may want to give it a try. Figuring what works best for you is always trial and error as well as analyzing results.

Lastly, what carbs I do have are always before 1pm, then low to no carb to finish the day off.

Best!

X

Ahhhh! I made the mistake. I meant 50 carb 30 protein. Sorry for the mix up and please send more replies!
