My DH and i have cell phones via ATT wireless. Two different numbers, and a shared plan. I'm paying 74 dollars a month. NOw my daughter who is a "tween" wants a cell phone (all the girls have them mom). I spent an hour tonight at the att wireless website trying to figure out the family plans. Can anyone please enlighten me, how does it work??? there is a place to click on " add a line for 9.99, but it brings me to the rates for plans.

Does anyone have a family plan for 3 or more phones, what are you paying and who is your carrier??? thanks so much for any advice.

Wendy

Wendy...My DH and I have a shared ATT Wireless plan also. We pay about $66 a month. I thought you could add another line for $9.99....it might be a good idea to call ATT, I get confused on their website myself and now that they have merged with Cingular...I have alot of questions!!....:)...Carole

One thing to remember is that AT&T is now Cingular. My best advice to you is to visit a wireless dealer (Best Buy or Circuit City). Talk to someone that knows the different plans & can best direct you.

In the North East, I know that Sprint has a limited but growing network. Cingular/AT&T now has the biggest.

I, personally, have been with Cingular for years (since before it was Cingular. We have family talk with 850 shared anytime minutes which includes no roaming within a very large area (from Boston to Washington DC), no long distance charges at all & unlimited Cingular/AT&T to Cingular/AT&T calls, rollover of unused minutes & unlimited night (after 9 PM) and weekend minutes. We pay $100 a month for 3 phones & have NEVER gone over our shared minutes. In fact, we now have over 3000 minutes in our bank & are considering terminating our land line service since we rarely use it & have cable internet service. Why have a land phone when we have all of these features?

Talk to your daughter's friends' parents. Find out which service most of them have. In order to get the "best" bargain with a family plan, you want to be able to call other people in your network. You start using most of your minutes when you are calling land line & people that don't have the same network as you. My daughter is 19; most of her friends are in the Cingular/AT&T network so that really helps us keep our minutes down.

Good luck making your decision.

FitnessGoddess, sounds like we have the same plan, nation wide on the family plan... 850 minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, with rollover, its for me and my son, hubby won't get a line for some reason, our plan costs us about 80 dollars a month, give or take a few dollars..... I really like this plan, NO long distance, NO roaming.... can't beat that............... yes I did forget that, if your friends and family are on cingular or att, no minutes are used...... cool huh........ I had ATT Wireless, but just switched over to Cingular (which you will have to do too, since ATT has been taken over by Cingular). I think your best bet is to go into an AT&T Wireless store. The staff are always very helpful. We only have the 2 lines right now and we pay around $60 a month. When my daughter is around 9 or so, I will get her a phone.

I have a Tracphone. I got fed up with the monthly bills, and feel now that I have total control. If I don't use the phone, I don't have to pay anything. However, I'm a person who does not use the cell phone for other than very occasional calls, and I DON'T keep it on to accept calls.
