Just curious here...I've come across a few women who complain about live recordings. One was a girl I used to work with at a record store who was telling a customer that they should get the studio recording so they wouldn't have to deal with the noise of the audience in the background. Another was my old supervisor at my last job. She was complaining that her husband bought Fleetwood Mac's The Dance (live) because she already has a studio CD of their greatest hits - WHY would she want a live recording?
Now, my husband literally has BOXES FILLED with bootlegs of live shows. I'll bet he has 50 bootlegs of live Rush concerts - some of them even the same tour! And he gets me bootlegs of live Prince shows and Bruce Cockburn. And I don't care how many versions of a song I have, I'm always excited to get another one. And it's REALLY cool to get a bootleg of a show you were actually at.
I was listening to one of the Prince shows this morning and I just think that it's just more energizing to listen to the live versions. I'd much rather listen to a good live recording than a studio. Personally, I find the audience to add an element of excitement to the whole thing. Ever hear Tom Petty's Live version of "Breakdown"? The audience sings the whole first verse and it's awesome. And I really like hearing the banter of the performer (Prince is very good at that). For a man from Minnesota, he sure says "Y'all" alot.
So I was just wondering...that's all.
