Hi Cathe! I'm going to change my thread a little bit to direct it towards you and hopefully catch your attention better! ;-)

Awhile ago someone had asked what are you suppose to do first to effectively burn fat if you had to do them both the same day, back to back.....strength training or cardio? And you had answered with your professional words of wisdom, and explained why you do one before the other. I think it had something to do with the advantages of burning fat vs. burning sugar; why one was recommended to do before the other. But I can't seem to track down that thread to pass on the wonderful advise to my sister. Would you mind sharing that helpful information again?

I always read everything with caution, but here is a blurb from this months Bicycling Magazine (November 2005, p.36).

"New research from Utah's Brigham Young University suggests that strength training after aerobic exercise could temporarily boost your metabolism. Study subjects' post-exercies oxygen consumption (an indicator of calorie burn) was higher when subjects lifted weights- performing 3 sets of 10 reps, with a weight of 70% of their one-rep maximum - after a 25 minute run then when they performed the same expercises in the reverse order. Bottom line: If you're trying to lose weight, consider adding post-ride training to your program."
