Cathe...? on rotation

Hi Cathe,
Great to see you back posting. Hope all is going well with the boys. Just a quick question regarding rotation. I weight train 2-3 days and do cardio 4 days per week. I really don't have a set rotation planned out. I might do MIC, IMAX, Cardio Kicks, Circuit Max or run on cardio days and MIS, PH, or Body Max on strength days. I decide in the morning what I feel like doing but always make sure to mix things up. The only time I follow a strict rotation is when I'm doing S&H while still mixing up the cardio. So I'm wondering if you recommend following a strict rotation where you assign a certain cardio or strength w/o on a specific day and follow that for 4-6 weeks. OR can I achieve the same results doing whatever I choose that day as long as I am cross training? Thanks for your input.

Hi JJ! There is no exact way to answer this since everybody is so different. It really depends on what your goals are, what your genetics are, and the type of workouts you enjoy enough to stay committed to. For instance, if your body responds quickly to weights they could possibly do all light weight workouts, mix it up randomly, take a few days off a week, and still have the results of someone who works very hard with heavy weight workouts on a set rotation but has the genetics that do not respond quickly to weights (I know, no fair ;-)).

A starting suggestion would be that if your body takes a long time to show muscle enhancement and you really want to get a lot of lean muscle mass, then following a specific rotation for a certain time will be good since you can measure your progress based on a set routine. If you don't have a set routine, then it is hard to determine where you could be improving. As far as cardio, this selection is fine being done randomly.
