Cathe - can you help with my rotation?

I am 6 feet tall and have long limbs (and weigh about 150 pounds). I had lost 80 pounds about 5 years ago but really did not weight train until about a year and a half ago. I do Firm workouts, your tapes and take step classes at the gym. My goal is to build visible muscle, more than I have now. I want a cut look. For workouts, I do 5 or 6 days a week, depending on my schedule. I do at least 3 - 4 days weight work (either your tapes or the Firm (light and heavy weight amounts) and fill in the rest with cardio. I have done S&H twice in the last 4 months at 3 week cycles. I have seen visible improvement and I hope to continue.

What I want to know is what you think about cardio. How often and how long? And mixing it up is the right way to go, correct?

Thanks (in advance)for all of your information!

Hi Timber! Congratulations on your 80 pound weight loss. I know you said you lost it 5 years ago but the fact that it is still off is what is so wonderful and shows your commitment towards your health.

Everyone is different. Some people gain weight if they do not make cardio a huge part of their weekly rotation, while others are just fine with 3 per week. In your case, you did not mention needing to lose weight rather just gain more visible muscle. In that case I would just do three cardio per week. Do two at a high intensity for 45 minutes and one at moderate intensity for 60 minutes. Vary the cardio you select. The rest of your workout days can be strength training but try to go as heavy as you can for two to three of the workouts and the other can be a light weight, high rep workout (ie: Power Hour).

Good Luck!
