Cathe, Another question on the levitation holds

Cathlete
I read a suggestion from some that this move is easier with legs in the lotus position. I have found this to be true, but wanted to make sure I wasn't taking anything away from the exercise by doing this.

Also, I just finished the first workout on Core Max and I had to laugh as it was just like you were talking to me personally. While doing reverse crunches we had like 8 more and you said we would be finished. I had a sigh of relief and then you said we were going to do planks. Right at that moment, I made an "argh" noise and you said, "Oh, stop your grumbling." It was so funny. :D

I also would like Cathe's opinion on this. I got myself into the Lotus position (an accomplishment in and of itself) and was able to levitate my body easily. Is this "cheating" or in some way defeating the purpose of the exercise? At any rate, why is it so much easier to do it this way? Are the core muscles not required to work as hard?

Exactly why I asked this question Lois. The levitation move is very easy in this position, so it definitely feels like we're cheating.

Bumping again for Cathe to see.

Hi Kelley! The closer the extremities are to the center of the body the more balanced you are and the easier it is to lift a heavier weight. That is why you are feeling it is easier. But no matter how you do it, the core is working to hold the lift.

Thanks Cathe. That sounds great. I'll continue doing it in lotus position until I build enough strength to do it with the feet in front.

I don't know the technical definition, but when sitting crosslegged you have your feet pulled in and upon your legs instead of out in front of you. Hope that made sense.

I found the levitation move much easier when I used dumb bells under my hands to prop myself up. It was easier on the wrists and the extra height compensated for my too-short arms (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!). The dumb bells I used were neoprene covered so offered a bit of cushioning.

Asking me to position myself into lotus is asking more of me than the exercise warrants! In other words, I can't do lotus!
