Cardio in cross-trainers...???

My knees are telling me it's time for new shoes. Right now I do cardio in Ryka Enlights, before that I wore Ryka cross trainers. I like the extra support of the mid-shoe, but my feet feel so heavy in those shoes as opposed to shoes that are cut lower.

Are there any good lower cut aerobic shoes? Or is it okay for me to step in cross-trainers??

TIA!

I ended up going to good running shoes for all my cardio. I was a huge fan of cross trainers, but the Rykas really seemed to be breaking down so quickly. Ever since I changed to my Asics I have been doing great.

I have used Ryka Enlights, low-cut Ryka cross-trainers, Asics, Adidas, and New Balance running shoes, and my Nike "Free" shoes for step over the years. I initially liked the Enlights the best (they were so BOUNCY!), but now I'm pretty much using the Frees for everything. It felt harder the first few times I used them for step, but now I'm accustomed to them and I LOVE THEM. Also, I don't get foot, ankle, or lower leg pain like I used to.

My least favorite were the high-end running shoes, which were terrible for lateral movements. My feet felt like they slid around sideways in the shoes. Awful.

This doesn't necessarily mean that Nike Free sneaks will be perfect for everyone, but it might mean that you should just go with what feels right. I liked the low-cut Rykas, too (these guys: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28488169/c/161854.html).

I wear a New Balance cross trainer for stepping & kickbox (needed the extra stability in side to side movement) but I use Asics running shoes for elliptical, running, TM, etc.

I think you need to use what works best for you - whatever that may be:)
