Cardio - Don't Really Like it....

Can anyone advise how much cardio one needs to see the benefit. I really dislike cardio, but absolutely love weight lifting. I can lift weights for an hour or, but the thought of doing cardio for 60 minutes makes me want to run in the other direction. I mostly stick with 30 min. of cardio. What do you do when you really do not like it?

Hi Kimmy,

I'm not too big on cardio either. I aim for 3 sessions per week, 30-40 min per session, and try to do a very intense or interval type workouts for at least 2 of them. For example, sometimes I'll do the warm up + one part of KPC. It all depends on what your goals are, but this works pretty well for me as far as losing weight and improving cardiovascular capacity.

Hope that helps.

I'm right there with ya! I don't care for cardio either but I do aim for at least 30 min. a couple of times a week. The way I see it, a little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing!

Take care,

I don't mind cardio as much as I used to. I loooove kickboxing however, either a class or at home. I've just gotten KPC and it's awesome, move over Billy and Janis. I could kickbox everyday (I guess I have lots of aggressive energy). You just need to find something you really enjoy. I used to prefer weights over cardio as well but now I look forward to both types of workouts. How about something outside, basketball, ball hockey, rollarblading, something fun so it doesn't feel like something you have to do. Good luck

Okay...how about when you think of Cardio and start running in the other direction, run for 20 minutes and turn around and come back...just kidding!

Mixing it up makes cardio easier to handle for me. I sometimes pop in some funky music (45 and I am funk junkie for working out hehehe) and ski on my Nordic Track, sometimes I do some kickboxing, sometimes Cathe Step (just trying to figure her out can get my heartrate up there sometimes lol)and somedays a 3 miled walk is my cardio total.

Do you like cycling? Spinning is a great cardio workout (another funky opportunity!). Find a few that you don't hate (personally hi/lo is my least fave)and mix them up...even 10 mins of each....like 10 kickbox, 10 step, 10 ski/spinning....nothing is horrible for 10 minutes right?

Take care!

I feel the same way about cardio. I only do it so I can see the muscles I've developed with weight lifting! The CTX series has really helped me - I do 3 of the cardios a week and sometimes a 1 hour step workout if I feel I need more cardio that week. I'm much more likely to do the cardio if I know I only have to endure it for 30 min.
