cardio and P90X

wellness

Cathlete
I just started P90X Monday! I know this has been asked before - but, my goal is to loose weight and gain strength (I do have to say though - I have been doing 4 day split & have seen some great strength gains! Love those workouts -).....back to my question.....

How much cardio should I add???
I read in its books, that rest is also apart of the workout.
I'm going on a cruise in March - and would love to be more toned!

:)

If this is your first round, I would just stick to the workouts as is at least for the first phase. I was running before starting P90X and I started adding my running back in during Phase 2.

I am doing my 3rd round now, but am training for a couple tri's this summer so I'm adding in extra cardio w/ running & swimming. I'm doing a Lean round so that I can get in the cardio! I have done Classic & doubles, feel free to email me if you have questions! (click on my webpage below)

Good luck & I'm sure you'll be looking awesome for your cruise! I'm jealous!!

Thanks for the advice!! This is my first round. (well I've done it before; but only as a supplemental or in exchange of other workouts. Since it seems alot have gotten great results with it- I'm going to try it as designed)

I play soccer 2x a week. I do get cardio in. I normally like to run or step with my weights too (for about 30 min. on weight days).
I think I'll stick to the workouts as is, as you suggested. keeping with the soccer) ANd, in phase 2 add more cardio in.

Did you follow the eating plan or did you just clean up you eating? I'm finding this month difficult to be super clean ! ugh!
I really enjoy Cathe's kickboxing - is it ok to use Cathe in replace of KenpoX??

Thanks for your help! THat is great that you are training for the tri's! yoU GO!
ALicia:)

No problem! It sounds like a good plan to start month 1 as designed & add in cardio. That's what worked for me for the first round!

I didn't follow the eating plan as much the first round but did clean up my eating. So the 2nd round I really followed the portion plan pretty closely and had a LOT better results.

And by all means.... YES sub in Cathe's kickboxing for Kenpo. I did KPC or KM and now the 4DS cardio (bootcamp + kickboxing). I couldn't replace ALL of Cathe!

Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help out!

Alicia,

When I did the X, I didn't follow the eating program and pretty much subbed Cathe or running for all the cardio. The number on the scale ultimately did not move very much, but I did lose inches and my overall fitness and strength improved. Both my weight and my measurements fluctuated throughout the 90 days, so don't be alarmed if that happens. I was pretty hungry, too. I really think you have to go through the process and see how your body responds.

Oh, and I would definitely sub for KenpoX!

Thanks - Cathy

I will be "pressing play" today - to KPC in place of KenopX.

I notice P90X is very low in carbs - maybe I'll do my own version. I worry about going as low as P90x does esp. with playing soccer, I am not sure how my energy levels would be. I know I have to track my caloric intake better:)

Thanks for your help :)
Alicia;-)

I don't think you need to add cardio. I think that is why P90x is so effective believe it or not. Less cardio can be better because it allows you to build and retain muscle which burns fat. If you do too much cardio it is counterproductive to weight training because the cardio actually burns the muscle you are trying to build. I got great results from p90x doing the program as is.
