can poison ivy be reddish?

Does anyone know if poison ivy has a reddish/brown tint to it when it is first coming up? I've always had it in the backyard but it's been green. Now I've noticed that these little 3 jagged leaved things are coming up EVERYWHERE - even in the front yard now. I've not yet sprayed for poison ivy this year but I need to and am wondering if it might be better to have a professional come and spray the whole yard - but I'm afraid of letting my dog out to potty if they do.

Kim - our poison ivy always has a reddish/brown color to it. My poor DH has been suffering with some on his arms for the past few weeks. Nasty stuff!

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

There are a few variations of poison ivy, and they can cross breed, so PI can definitly have different looks. It can be more reddish in the fall, but the stems are often reddish all the time.

However, there are some plants that look similar to PI, so it may not be PI. Pick some (put on gloves, put your gloved hand in a plastic bag, pick off the top of the plant with the bag and close the bag around it) then take it either to a botany department if you are near a university, or to a garden center (before it dries out, as that would make the ID more difficult) and they should be able to tell you if it's PI or not.

Yep, my dh too. He pulled it out of our back fence and got it on his arms. Sometimes it can be reddish at the tips. I've only had it once.... and hope to never get it again!
