Can I look like Cathe doing her vids?

Just read the thread about someone criticizing Cathe, and someone said that you could not look like Cathe just by doing her vids. I was wondering what others thought about that, and what do people supplement their Cathe with? I'm guessing the only way to get that muscularity is to lift at the gym, but wanted to know others' opinions...

"SHE" is the product that she is selling (Cathe). You buy her product because that is how "she" herself got to look like that. I can't wait to look like that.:) I only own ME and I do it twice a week now. Other than that , I do cardio and freestyle lunges. Oh , and Leslie Sansone's walk away the pounds (4 miles). :)

Even Cathe doesn't do Cathe only (if you know what I mean). She's a runner, she teaches aerobics classes at her gym, etc. Some people do Cathe exclusively and follow a clean diet and look awesome while others like to mix it up a bit. In my opinion you can look awesome doing Cathe almost exclusively (you should see my legs!) but I feel that to get that upper body definition I need to use a couple of machines at the gym because you can only go to a certain amount of weight when lifting free weights on your own and without a spotter.

You can get upper body definition without machines at the gym or free weights, but you DO have to do resistance training in the form of body weight exercises. I get better definition after I ditched the iron.
Just Do It! :)

That's awesome, Honeybunch! Besides pushups what other sort of body weight exercises have you incorporated??

Thanks!

I think a lot has to do with genetics. I look more like Cedie, and Cedie is never going to look like Cathe, although she looks great! If you strive for a look that your body make-up just can't do, you will make yourself miserable. But if you strive for the best you can be for you, then you will succeed.

I agree. I have short, thick legs and they will never look long and lean. However, I'm working at getting the jiggle off. Little by little, I'm beating it!

EXACTLY. Well said, Dorothy!!

Focus on what you CAN do and what is best for YOUR body and your lifestyle. "Fitness" in the form of a healthy attitude toward yourself and your own unique abilities is essential to achieving all your goals in life.

Also, I believe Cathe herself has said on here in the past (and please don't ask me to find the post!!) that she does a variety of things. And remember she's been doing this since she was in high school! And she teaches as well. Most of us don't do this for a living and haven't been doing it as long as she has.

I don't strive to "look like" anyone else, including Cathe. And NO, that is NOT "bashing". That's simply stating my own personal beliefs. I'm not saying there's anything "wrong" with wanting to look like Cathe or that anyone who does want to is "wrong". I'm saying I prefer to realize my own unique potential, based on my lifestyle, my body, my genetics, etc., and work towards that. I'm not anyone else - I'm me. I will never look like anyone else because I'm not that person, but I *can* bring out the best in ME.

I think everyone is looking at fitness in the wrong way.Everyone has a different genetic makeup. Some women build musles easily , some take more work.
Some people can eat anything they want and stay slim, others have to watch what they eat.
I think we just need to strive for the best we can be.As long as we feel good and look decent and keep trying what does it matter.
We are not all going to look like models, but it gives us a reason to keep doing it.
Think of it this way,
You will feel better, look better, and in our older years we won't be in wheel chairs.
I have gone to the gym. I get more out of a workout with videos. I push more to do it all. Otherwise I say, that is it.
Did enough.
Cathe challenges me 7 more when I would have quit.I feel more burn and I don't have to drive and worry about someone watching me .
If I need to pause and get a drink I do, If I want to do heavier or lighter I do.
I listen to my body.

Remember, Cathe does this for a living.
She has been doing this for over 20 years,
Give it time , You will meet your goals.
Until then , you will feel better stronger and firmer.
Just keep on truckin.
Anne

Chin-ups, pull-ups, push-ups and dips. That's all you need. I do a lot of lower-body body weight exercises also - lots of lunges squats, etc.
Just Do It! :)

These are all good replies. I just have to add my 2 cents. I will never look like Cathe. I will never look like Cedie, Rhonda, Brenda, Jai or any of the other beautiful women that have been in Cathe's workouts. It has taken me 50 years to realize and accept that my Armenian bottom will always be wide. Sure, it would be great to lose 10, 20, 25 pounds, but Cathe, along with others like Christie Taylor, Charlene, even Kathy Smith, have made me stronger than I ever thought possible. When my DD's boyfriend expresses disbelief at my age, I have Cathe and the invention of the VCR to thanks.

If your question is "Can a person look cut, muscular, and lean from doing Cathe's videos (and eating right)?" then the answer is YES! Keep challenging yourself. It takes time, too. :)

If you are short, have lots of fast-twitch muscle fibers, and are somewhat of a metamorph, then it's possible you could look like Cathe from doing her workouts.

On the other hand, if you are more of an endomorph (like Cedie), then looking like Cathe would be difficult if not impossible, IMO.

If you are taller, and/or an ectomorph, then looking like Rhonda would be approachable, but not quite like Cathe.

Just my opinion.

Rather than wanting to look like X or Y (who may not be your body type), everyone should choose a role model that fits their body type.

I can't tell you how much I agree with that. I spent so many years getting my hair cut like so and so, trying to get legs like someone else, whatever, but now, finally, at 43, I have decided, that being ME is pretty good, and I just want to be the best me I can!:) :)

Great replies! I definitely agree about working to your own unique potential, and I find that starts to happen for me when I've been working out consistently and am seeing results. i moved recently and was sick with pneumonia for a couple of weeks, so I was too busy and then sick to workout. WHen I'm starting back from a break, I find that I look more to role models for inspiration.

I was also wondering how many people also use a gym and find that it has really added to their fitness gains? I realize there is a lot you can do at the gym (ie.e. mych heavier weight, more variety of cardio). I'm torn - I think it would benefit me and add to waht I'm getting from Cathe, but I hate the high-pressure-salesman feel I always get and locking into a contract and all that...

My weight training and step is 100% Cathe or home video. I do swim at the Y and will do the cardio machines in the winter while my daughter has swim practice. 24 years ago I started weight lifting in a gym using machines. After a year, I changed to free weights, and with the exception of the Smith machine, prefer free weights to machines any day.

Dorothy, you hit the nail on the head. It helps to have a similar body type. And even then do you want to work that hard and long and eat that carefully??? I have a body type a lot like Cathe (short, apple, seem to be able to build muscle easily), but I don't aspire to look like Cathe. I know I don't have the time to work that much every day and while I'd like to lose a little more weight, I don't know if I want to eat THAT cleanly forever. And as I'm already 12 years older than Cathe, I don't know if I could make up that time. And frankly it's not too high on my list of priorities:)

Besides it's not really about WHO you look like, or even how good you look. It's about how good you FEEL and how good your health is and quality of life...just my .02 worth.

Looking at this thread title again "Can I look like Cathe doing her vids", I can read it as someone who wants to look the way Cathe does (move the way she does) while doing the videos. In that sense, there's NO WAY I'll ever look like that, especially on those power moves (Cathe's high, figure X, big pair of scissors opened to the max jumps turn out looking more like a pair of kids safety scissors on me!)
