Can anybody help me figure out what's wrong with my t.v...

The t.v. in my mother's room is hooked up to cable. It was working fine last night. Today when she turned it on, the channels will change but they show the same distorted picture. i.e. Whether she puts it on channel 3 or 20 or 30, it shows a fuzzy picture of the same station. I checked the cable wires and the cable input itself and they both are working fine. Are we being told that it's time to put our hand into our pocketbook and go shopping? I'm hoping not. Any suggestions? TIA

Is the cable bill paid? (kidding)

A few years back, our cable co did the same thing. We called, it took them like 2 weeks to send someone out (it was a holiday weekend) and then the guy says - oh, we're forcing you to the new digital only service so we cut your service. If you'd like to switch to digital, it'll cost blah blah blah blah. At the point, I had tuned him out. Talk about cruddy customer service. The person on the phone could have told me that. Needless to say, we switched to DirectTv the next day. No suggestions, though. Try calling the cable company, maybe its just an outage or something happened to the box outside.

Oh, you mean I actually have to PAY to watch t.v.? :p Nan, it's not the cable. I tried different cable wires and a different t.v. and it worked fine so I know there's something wrong with the t.v. itself. I'm just hoping that it's something I can fix and not have to buy a new one.

Is is possible that the TV's channel has been changed? I know our TV has to be set on channel 4 (although one of the TVs has to be set on channel 3) before we can use the cable channels. Sometimes our remote will change the TV and not the cable channels and then the picture gets messed.
