Calories Burned

Hi All...

I have been working out for a few years now and have run the gamut on workouts (ie. The Firm, Turbo Jam, Kathy Smith and others). I was wondering if any of you know how many calories her various tapes burn for a person that is about 170 lbs. Her Step Blast, Body Max and IMAX 2 tapes in particular???

Thanks for the help!!!!

Jules!!!!

The only way to accurately tell how many calories you're burning is to get a heart rate monitor. I just got one a little over a week ago and I love it! I got a Polar F4 from heartratemonitors.com for 63.96 and it was worth every penny. It's one of the best pieces of fitness equipment I've ever invested in.

A person's heartrate is such an individual thing and depends on many variables. I suggest you invest in a heartrate monitor. You will be glad you did. The batteries in mine just died and I'm lost without it.

Also, the amount of calories burned depends on your effort that day (for instance, I did Imax 2 today, but I was tired from Body Max yesterday and didn't put forth as much effort as I usually do and my HRM showed I burned less calories), plus, you'll burn less as you get in better shape, too. It's not only different between individuals, but different even yourself from time to time. I also suggest a HRM (I have a Polar F6 and LOVE it) if you'd like to know. HTH!

Do these Polar heart rate monitors all include a chest strap? If so, is it comfortable to wear? Does it interfere w/breathing at all? Do you have to wear the chest strap in order for the heart rate monitor to work?

Thanks,
Doreen

Most of them come with a chest strap. I would make sure that you get the kind that clicks together at the front bound by the sensor. I think it's called a wearlink strap for the polar watch models. there is another, cheaper type of strap (I think called the elasticated strap) that I do not like because it pops off while I exercise if my sports bra rubs it! very annoying when it occurs 8 times during a 60 minute workout. The wearlink strap is about $12, but worth it b/c it's comfortable and doesn't pop off. You can get a Mio watch which does not require a strap, but I don't think they are as good at picking up a heart rate from what I've heard.

Anyway, have fun! It is a realiable tool to record calories burned and effort exerted:)
