On a cheesy note... Hoping this doesn't totally negate everything I just said, but I just finished the Twilight series, and loved it. I SWORE I'd never ever read those books because vampires.. really? But they totally sucked me into them. I wanted to climb inside those books!! If you're looking for a fun summer read, they are fun! Other great summer reads: anything by Jennifer Weiner and Paullina Simons (Simons' Bronze Horseman is great). :)

I must be cheesy right there with you because those 4 Twilight books are at the top of my all time favorites. I am going to wait awhile and then read them all again! I felt just like you. I wanted to be a part of the book. Be in it. Know the characters in real life, LOL.

I read a lot of Dean Koontz, Michael Chriton (i think he may have died?) and other suspense type authors. I so wish I had more time to read. I lost so much sleep when I read the Twilight series because i had to read in bed because it's impossible to read with 3-4 year olds and a 7 year old terrorizing the house, LOL>

I just finished "The Help." Different from my usual murder-mystery summer reads, but what a great book!

I felt silly picking up "Twilight" after our school librarian said it was written on a fifth-grade level. Having said that, I COULD NOT put it or the other 2 down. Something about the way it's written sucks you in. Pun intended.

Harlan Corban novels fall in my usual pattern. (That being the murder-mystery genre).

I am currently reading my childhood favorite "Where the Red Fern Grows" to my 9 and 10 year old daughters. I have no idea how I'm going to read the last few chapters without bawling. I starting tearing up at the first chapter!

We read "The Help" in my book group and it was loved by all.

I also really loved "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Stephanie, Eat Pray Love is a very good book and I really REALLY enjoyed reading it. The Twilight Series, hugh? My BFF has read the entire series 6 TIMES!!!!!!!!! 6 TIMES! I borrowed the first one from her for about a week and I just couldn't get myself to even OPEN it up. Do I really REALLY need to reconsider that??? :)

I would suggest at least giving the Twilight series a chance. It's cheesy, yes, but the lure of a vampire that can grant eternal life to his beloved but loves her so much he won't, despite it being maybe the best thing for her...well that's too much to miss out on.

Also, Stephanie Meyer, the author of Twilight has another book that I am currently reading called The Host. I think it's more cerebral than Twilight and a unique twist on aliens taking over Earth.

Just wanted to revive a book thread. I always get such great ideas! I just finished a couple:

The Hunger Games - was on DD's summer reading list; it was REALLY good!
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2)

Sh*t My Dad Says - funniest book I have read...pretty much EVER! I was laughing out loud at some of the quotes from dad!

How about everyone else? What have you read/are you reading?

Carrie

"Firefly Lane" by Kristen Hannah. LOVED this book. So nostalgic and also I never cried so hard.

I'm reading another book by her, "Distant Shores". Not as good, but not bad.

I had requested "Sh*t My Dad Says "at the library. Carrie, thanks for the rave review. I can not WAIT to get it now!

I also requested "One Day" by David Nicolls, I heard it was an awesome book and soon to be made into a movie.

I don't know if you ever read "The Lottery" by Patricia Wood. I got the recomendation here, and that is my all time favorite book to date!

If you like cats, "Dewey The Library Cat" is so good! True story about a stray cat. LOVED it.

Funny, I read Twilight because of all the hype. Didn't like it. i'm weird I guess! I also didn't like Eat Pray and Love. So self indulgent. It bugged me and the "pray" part was so boring to me. I do think I'm weird.

These are some of the books I've read in the last month or so.

Sudden Rain by Marietta Wolff - The book was written in 1972 but did not get published until after the author's death in 2001. It was interesting read about relationships, marriage and divorce.

Plant Life by Pamela Duncan

Riding with the Queen by Jennie Shortridge

Night Ferry by Michael Robotham

The Man Who Smiled by Henning Mankell - a thriller that takes place in Sweden

The Rest of her Life by Laura Moriarity

When Darkness Falls by James Grippando

The Mercy of Thin Air by Ronlyn Domingue
