Cabbage soup diet didn't work???

Winter

Hi Ladies,

I did the cabbage soup diet for 7 days - no cheating and it did not work.

I lost maybe 2 lbs. It is supposed to be 10-17 lbs??

What the heck. I am so mad. I just wanted a jump start and now I am only depressed about it.

At least now I know that my body doesn't respond to this diet. But why I wonder?

Anyone else not lose on this??

Thanks,
Winter

10 to 17 lbs in 7 days???? I would say those are unrealistic claims for the average overweight person, maybe if someone is severely obese!?

Don't feel bad, most of those fad diets overpromise and underdeliver. It's just unrealistic, in order to lose 1 lb you'll need to use up 3,500 kcal. Meaning, for this diet to deliver the promised weightloss you would have to have a kcal restriction of 7,000 kcal per day.

The calorie intake on the cabbage soup diet is only around 800 kcal per day, if you work out to Cathe DVDs that is WAY too low! Your body will go into starvation mode, slow down your metabolism and hang on to every ounze of bodyfat.

Unfortunately, none of this fad diets work in the long run, and there are no quick fixes. It's just eat right (eat clean) and exercise.

Look on the bright side though, you lost 2 lbs in a week, which is a healthy weightloss. That's a great start.

Good luck!

Yeah, that is alot of weight to "claim" to lose in a week:eek: I remember a few yrs ago ( and this was a while ago) I did the 3 day diet! LOL I lost like 5 lbs but gained it back in two when I went back to normal eating.
Im not sure if there is such a thing as a jump start to your diet b/c as soon as you go back to your normal eating...you gain most of it back. I know that slim fast had a jump start kit...wonder how that went over?

OMG! I don't even think I could survive on 800 calories if I laid in bed all day! I'd feel like I was starving for sure!

I NEED MY FOOD!}(

Please do not do the cabbage soup diet or any other fad diet with these outrageous claims if you are in it for the long haul. Yes you can lose WEIGHT on these, but you are losing mostly water weight and possibly valuable muscle tissue in the process. Your body needs to be fed rather than starved when you are working out with as much intensity as Cathe's DVD's. As someone else pointed out, your metabolism will go down so that when you start eating normally again, your body freaks out and you may end up gaining more weight than when you started. Take a look at Bill Philips Eating for Life or Tosca Reno's Eating Clean Diet for a long term approach that has you eating more and never going hungry. With this type of approach you will gradually lose FAT and gain MUSCLE which is probably what you're going for. :)

It's physiologically impossible to lose 10-17 pounds of FAT in that amount of time. Most of the weight lost that way would come back on anyway, since it would be water weight. 2 pounds is actually a reasonable amount of weight to lose in a week (1-2 pounds is a good guideline), so maybe those 2 pounds will stay off (which is better than temporarily 'losing' the 10-17 pounds, only to have it come back).

I've had gastroenteritis twice where I've ended up in the hospital on an IV and both times I lost 12 lbs in a week. I don't think I'd want to try a diet that replicated that:p
