Buying Suits - GRRR!

Anyone else have this problem. When buying a suit for work, I fit into a 6 or 8 skirt or slacks. However, my upper body especially shoulders and back have become so developed that I have to wear a 10 jacket. I've tried to sneak a mismatched skirt/slacks with jacket, but the salesperson usually catches it.

It is so frustrating.

Heavens yes. I've had this problem for years, also b/c of my build--I have no rear end & a large waist, & of course women's pants are made w/a larger rear end & a smaller waist.

You have to go w/separates. Banana Republic has some great suit separates. So does J Crew, Ann Taylor & Talbots. Casual Corner for lower end.

I've only been seriously working out for almost 2 years and I am just discovering for the first time that my hips seem to be disappearing and I am starting to have problems with tops that are getting too tight around the arms so I am not sure what size I will need later.

I've never had that problem with my business suits, but I've always had the problem with bikinis. Back in the day when I was young enough to wear one, you couldn't mix and match the tops and bottoms. Now that you can...I'm 38 years old and would feel like an idiot walking around in one!

I recently bought Victoria's Secret suit separates and I loved them! It was so nice to be able to get a 14 jacket and 10 skirt!

Also, in the past I have bought the larger size suit and had the skirt tailored. The lady literally took the skirt apart and sewed it back together but she charged me very little (under $20) and did a great job. She was an older gal that really knew her stuff and she is great! That is now an option for me too if I happen to find a suit that I love at a decent price and don't mind the wait to have it tailored. I usually have the skirt shortened anyways so it all works out ;)

I love buying suits at Express and The Limited. They are very stylish and sold in separates and I'm convinced the staff is on commission because they tend to be super helpful. Last time I bought a suit at The Limited, the saleswoman stood outside the dressing room door to ask me how things fit, to see for herself if something looked good or bad and to bring me other items just to try them out with the suit! I ended up with size 4 pants and a 6 jacket and several shirts she had suggested that could all be worn with the suit. (And I got a cool free purse for spending WAY too much money!)

Just my .02 :D

Everyone always has their own figure problems, dont they? I always need a smaller jacket and a larger skirt. My hips are a size 12 but my top is a size 10. So I usually get a larger suit so the skirt will fit. I have such a hard time with skirts!

Also, I am tall, so sleeve and pant lengths are always an issue. I find good suits at Marshall's. I bought three this weekend. Sometimes I think the reason I find so many suits there is because they run long and nobody buys them in the stores, so they end up at Marshalls.

I got a really cute navy suit made by Anne Klein for $100 at Marshalls. It has a very up to date shape. The pants are low cut with flair legs. The jacket is low cut too with a one button closure that is very nipped in at the waist. Very cute and nice. Really makes me look like a woman, no man tailoring at all.
