Bulges on sides of my neck

The past few years I've been getting soft bulges on the sides of my neck right above the collar bone but they have been getting bigger with the weight lifting I've been doing with weights and barbell on your dvds. I asked my doctor about them but she said she had never seen anything like them but it could be fatty tissue. I notice them more when I lift my arms. Could they be from lifting weights? I would feel better if I knew what causes them to bulge :(
 
Hi Mamads! I'm not familiar with what you are describing. I can't really give you an fully accurate opinion without actually seeing it. It doesn't sound as if your doctor is alarmed with what she has seen.

If you feel it is a direct result of weight lifting, try going lighter on shoulder and back work and see if you notice the bulges reduce in size. Perhaps you are noticing your upper trapezius muscle developing. If this is the case eliminate or go VERY light on shrugs (if your doing them) and if your doing upright rows, use a wide grip and don't lift your elbows higher then rib cage height.

Again, I'm guessing here since I really can't see these bulges.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will give them a try. My bulges seem to me to be in the trapezius area. I think my doctor wasn't concerned is because they are soft and not hard like a cancer lump would probably be.

I have almost all your dvds and love all of them. One of the things I really like is that you allow a longer time period for all the stretches and you can really feel them. Most instructors just do a quick stretch and I don't feel like I get the full benefit out of them.

I am so happy to hear your recovery is going so well and you are closely following your doctors instructions and not trying to hurry the process and possibly do permanent damage to yourself. I am also looking forward to your new dvds after your complete healing because I know they will be worth the wait! Keep up the good work :) .
