building up core indurance

smurfette

Cathlete
After starting to do Cathe, I've started to experience just how weak my core is. i feel like the sta-puft marshmallow woman!

Has anyone ever tried doing planks or anything else during the day to build up endurance?

Do you think it would be too fatigueing?

I'm trying to do the core work on the DVD's with the best form and get the most value from that time.

I'm also impatient and I want to supplement the work if possible.

Any suggestions??

Hi Danna,
Some people have posted here that they work their abs/core every day without any problems so I really think it is an individual thing. You could try doing some daily core work and see how it goes but I wouldn't do the same thing everyday. Switch it up with planks one day, then various crunches the next, then obliques the next etc.. and incorporate the stability ball and/or medicine ball if possible. As always, listen to your body and if you become really sore or feel fatigued, take a day or two off and rest.

One suggestion to supplement your work would be to do isometric contractions throughout the day. Tightly contract your abs and hold for 30+ sec. (or as long as you can with proper breathing). You can do this while sitting at your desk, watching tv or driving in your car. HTH :)
