Buff Badgers Week of May 7th

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. The weather was beautiful. DS14 had his 8th grade dance on Friday night. He looked nice. DH drove DS and one of his buddies to the dance. The dance only last 2 hours and the kids get all dressed up. Most of them usually go out to eat afterwards so DH planned to take him and a few buddies to the restaurant and they all hung out while DH got a table in the corner:D. My husband waited patiently for 2 hours while he had fun with his friends. It was a proud mommy moment when my DS came in the room and said "daddy, I love you for that". In spite of his flaws, this is one of those ....I guess we are doing something right moments. I could use more of these as a teenager can keep you on your knees praying.

Saturday was the standing leg portion of GS Legs followed by 30 minutes on the elliptical. This morning was Cathe's Intensity. This week is slow and heavy and that will be the end of this 4 week rotation. I am thinking of doing a similar rotation. I saw one with GS and Meso 3 that looked interesting.

Good morning! Friday was Hiit 30/30 and that was it. No workouts Saturday or Sunday... *sigh*.

But... I sort of have an excuse for Saturday because I got up very early to walk around in the rain and cold to see my brother's marathon, which... wait for it... he WON!!!! I am such a proud big sister! Of course, he still wasn't happy with his time , but he was thrilled to actually win one of these races. His prize was a big briefcase thing full of cheese :D

Sunday I have no excuse. It just didn't happen.

Heartymax- Looks like you've got two sweet men living in your house :) I'm already on my knees praying for DS as he gets older.

Speaking of DS, I found a great homeschool curriculum online over the weekend. I've decided to go with the Montessori method, and I found what looks like a fairly comprehensive three-year curriculum. It even includes Montessori manipulatives, which can be incredibly expensive since they're usually made to withstand classrooms full of children for many years. But this one is geared primarily to the homeschooler. I just realized I'm talking jargon, but basically, I'm excited! DH said I could order it in a couple of weeks so I could spend my summer poring over it.

Have a great Monday!

Morning Ladies,

No workouts for me this weekend, it seemed that I was running all over the place. This morning I did 10lb Slimdown Xtreme Kickboxing and the Recovery Core workout. Feeling really good after that, because of course that was my favorite kickboxing workout.

heartymax, All I have to say is Ahhh that was such a great thing for you ds to do, and you don't hear of those type of things happening at the age he is. ;) I think as parents of teenagers we are surprised at those little things, because they are trying to be so independant.

Sam, Don't worry I was with you this weekend on the no-workout front. The rain was crazy this weekend wasn't it! DH, oldest dd and her boyfriend got drenched yesterday while getting dd's dorm room unpacked. Glad to hear that you have found something that will work for your homeschooling.

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning ladies! Friday was my total body strength routine. I wrote it up myself and liked it! Satuday was a 4 mile run, Sunday was an upper body strength routine. Today I over slept so I gave Ruby a brisk walk and will be doing P90X's PlyoX after work.

Heartymax, love that your DS was so appreciative!:D

Sam, congrats to your brother!! How exciting. My goood friend home-schooled her kids until her oldest was in 7th grade. She likeed it a lot.

Laurie, who is the trainer in those 10lb Slimdowns? I spent a lot of time Sunday in my basement cleaning and moving everything back where it belonged after all the water down here. Finally is back to normal!:)

Have a good Monday! Susan

Heartymax - It sure it nice that your DS appreciates things you do. I think my kids do a little but they won't really get it until they're older and are parents themselves. I'm glad you had great weather because ours stunk! Rainy and cold all weekend. Perfect weather to go see "The Avengers" yesterday. Yes, our family was part of the $200 million they made.

Sam - I admire you for taking on the task of home schooling. I wouldn't know where to start! (I don't think I'd have the patience either.) Congrats to your brother on winning the marathon! His briefcase full of cheese is an odd prize. Must have been sponsored by a cheese company.

Laurie - School is over already?! Didn't her first year away go quickly? Great workout this morning. You must have stored up energy from the weekend.

Susan - You were brave to go running on Saturday. Too cold and windy for me! Chris Freytag is the trainer in 10 PSD and 10 PSDX.

Friday was Biggest Loser Last Chance workout. Saturday was Step Max Combos 2, 3 + Challenge premix. Sunday was STS Disc 1. Today was 30 MTF Cardio Blast Plyometrics workout. As you can see, I decided to start STS. I was updating my spreadsheet with the workouts I completed in April and May so far and came up with a list of what I want to do yet this year. STS was on the list so I decided I'd "just do it". This is only my 2nd round since I 've only owned it about a year. We'll see how it goes once summer starts. I may have to switch all my workouts to night-time. DS has weights 4 days a week starting at 6:30 a.m. so I'll have to take him (or get DH to wake up early). I don't want to get up at 4 a.m. in order to have enough time to workout. He will miss about 2 weeks in June when he's out of town so those days shouldn't be a problem - assuming I can get my butt out of bed at 4:30!

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Saturday I had the last day of X-Factor for week 2. Instead of doing 3 rounds I decided to add on the LIS Bonus step portion from Super Sets. After I got back from my morning grocery shopping I went down by my parents and started working on the landscaping project I started a few weeks ago. I took me from 9am to 4pm but I got done what I wanted to and as far as I could go until I get the next area ready. I can't tell you how many trips up and down a hill I made with my wheelbarrel full of mulch. Dug up a tree and moved it and and put in some new plants and solar lights. I got down looks great so as sore as I was by the end of the day paid off because I was extremely happy with how it looked and my parents liked it as well. Sunday was a rest day and we had a confirmation party to go to. This morning was the start of X-Factor Week 3 and they definitely took it to another level. There are a few exercises in this one that I'm not real fond of (mainly because they are hard). I stuck with the two rounds but then I did add on the Bonus Step portion from LIS Super Sets. I had one heck of a workout this morning. My body was still fatigued from Saturday.

Heartymax - what a proud moment that must have been to hear your DS say that to DH. How sweet!!

Sam - that is awesome about your brother!! I was thinking about you on Saturday wondering how it was going.

Laurie - a lot of running around can feel like a workout in itself once in a while.

Susan - have fun doing P90X PlyoX. I'm not a Tony fan but he does have good workouts.

Enjoy the rest of your day!!

Hi Sue,

We were posting at the same time again.

I love STS. I've done it at least 3 times in it's entirety and plus did some of here and there during rotations when I was mixing things up.

Brenda

Sue---you have been doing great with your workouts! Did you enjoy STS the first time you did it? It is truly one of my favorites. I love the intro music. I find it so motivating to listen to as I prep my weights for the workout.

Brenda---I bet your upper body is saying---"hey I got an extra workout" from pushing that barrell up and down the hill:D

Sam---I worked as a counselor at a Montessori school for 10 years. It was a magnet program in the public school system. I loved visiting the preschool classes and watch the little ones use their pictures and letters to write stories on the mat. Congrats to your brother-----it is nice being a proud sister too!

Laurie---I haven't been working my core as much in this rotation, even though my eating has been pretty good. I said the other day that I need to make sure that I am working my abs 3 times a week and I don't think I have been getting a really good ab workout that many times a week. Even though===everything else is getting worked pretty good.

Susan----so you made up your own strength routine. Sounds good. Did you listen to some music while you did it?

Today was Slow and Heavy Triceps, Biceps and Abs.

Morning Ladies,

Last night I decided to nix the Gym Style workouts, and I got out Pure Strength Chest, Shoulders & Triceps. I think the PS series will work better for my mood for the next few weeks. This morning was S90 Cardio Challenge.

Susan, I saw this morning that your area got a lot of rain this last month. Now I see why you where bailing out your basement. Chris Freytag is the trainer for those workouts, and all of them are really good. She does them at a pace that you can use heavier weights. WTG making your own workout routine.

Sue, DD is done with her finals, and her and her roommate are not talking. She just wanted to get out of the dorm room. Have fun with the STS, I know this last round was a ton of fun for me. I just was in the right mood for them.

Brenda, Oh you probably are talking about the 90 min. of split jumps! I don't mind that move, but it gets difficult to do when you have to go for that amount of time. ;) WTG getting all that yard work done!

heartymax, I think the core work is something that we all tend to avoid. The PS series has two ab workouts in it, so that is another plus for me. I like the core work that has some cardio to it also, so adding in 6W6P is another option I'm looking at.

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning. I was crunched for time and had low energy yesterday, so I needed something quick and fairly easy. I ended up with the combos only premix of Imax3. The combos are so fun, and I felt a lot better after that quick little workout.

Laurie- I was very tempted by the Pure Strength series when it was the deal of the day a week or so ago. In fact, I think the next time it shows up as a deal I may go for it. Slow and Heavy is the deal today, and I'm tempted by that, too.

Susan- Your own workout! Nice! Us workout video addicts are so well-educated ;)

Sue- Yes, the cheese prize was a little strange. It went along with the whole Wisconsin thing, and the slogan for the marathon was "It's the cheesiest!" He also got a cheesehead, which his wife proudly donned :) The cheese they got is a good brand, though. I was a little jealous (I love cheese).

Brenda- I just realized I should be asking you about our various landscaping woes. We inherited quite a mess when we moved in to our house and DH and I have no idea what we're doing  Any tips on getting rid of a HUGE colony of ants? They're in a flowerbed. I can't plant anything there and it's a real eyesore.

Heartymax- How cool! My SIL works at a Montessori school also, but she's not a certified Montessori teacher. She's an aide and also teaches music. I think it will work really well for preschool at least. If I keep homeschooling after that, I may choose something else, but I'm trying to take it a year at a time.

Have a great day, everyone! The end of my working days is getting closer and closer! Just under 4 weeks to go!

Good Morning. This morning was lower body strength followed by Cathe's Intensity Hi-impact HiiT, just to keep my heart rate up. It was fun. This workout I got for lower body out of Oxygen lets you do the workout more "quad" or "hamstring" focused, even though it works everything. Last week I did quad so today I focused on the hammy's and it was a doozy! Especially after PlyoX last night!

Thanks for the info on the Slimdown series. I have seen her selling it on QVC now that you ladies said her name. I always wondered if she would be tough enough for me but since you ladies seem to think she is then she must be!

Heartymax, yes, I must listen to music while I train. :D

Have a great day ladies! Susan

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Heartymax - slow & heavy... haven't done that in a long time. Like those workouts. I definitely got the workout on Saturday.

Laurie - the 90 sec of split jumps is hard and that the other two where you go down into a push up and jump back up on your feet and jump in the air for the train to come through or whatever he says and then the surf one is the other one I'm not fond of. I think I'd rather do one legged squat thrusts. I'll keep trying to do what I can on those.

Sam - WTG on doing some of Imax 3. Hmmmmm... ant hills.. I hate those. Do you want to try and use something more natural or doesn't it matter and you just want them gone. Powdered silica is supposed to work. I've used it once on ants and it did the trick. I don't know that you can buy that in a store though. We bought ours online. Let me know if you want more information on it.

Today was my cardio day and I started out with the warm-up from the original Bootcamp and then did the cardio blasts only premix and then switched to Athletic Step (skipping the warm up since I was plenty warmed up after BC). My legs and hips were sore from Monday's workout but I made it through it.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
Brenda

Brenda - I don't know if you saw my post from Saturday but I said that I worked in Menomee Falls and we have a brand new plant in Germantown so we work pretty close to each other. A lot of the people I work with live in the West Bend area. Sounds like you're a big STS fan. That's probably why you can do all that landscaping you do. That's hard work! (as you know)

Heartymax - I was surprised at how much I sweated the 1st round of STS. Wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it. ;) It's much less work this time around though since I have all the weights I used written down. I wrote it right in the book (gasp!) instead of messing with printing worksheets.

Laurie - I think I'm finally in the mood for STS again. Isn't it funny how some workouts just don't appeal and then months later you feel like you've got to do it? Could be just me. I've been very moody lately. I think it's peri-menopause. So is DD going to be living with someone else next year? I'm sure she's finding out it's much harder to live with someone than just be friends with them.

Sam - I enjoy the step only combo of Imax3, too. Now the cheesehead is a cool prize! ;)

Susan - The thing I like about Chris Freytag is that she's always encouraging you to push yourself harder. Sounds corny but it works with me.

Today is a rest day. It's my early morning and I have a Football Moms Meeting tonight. Tomorrow will be STS Disc 2.

Sue----I don't use the printed sheets either. I keep track of my weights in the book too. Call me lazy----but I don't need any extra steps...LOL! I found the 2nd round of Meso 1 to be much better-----the first time through I was going crazy just keeping up with getting the weights organized for each set.

Laurie---I totally agree with Sue on the difference between living with someone and being friends. I went off to college with a good friend and that didn't work. We were able to maintain our friendship by changing roommates...:D

Susan---I find the High Impact Hiit Intensity section to be really hard.

Sam---I was scheduled to do Imax 3 a few days ago and just could get myself to do it. I did a few weeks ago and that i just one tough workout and wipes out all my energy.

Brenda----Lower Body DOMS kicking in huh:D WTG on pushing through on your workout anyway.

Today was After Burn which appears to be one of my new favorites. I still say Cathe should be ashamed of herself for making us doing walking planks and staggered push ups at the end.

Good morning! Yesterday I did Pyramid Upper Body. Oh my goodness. I'm so glad I got this one; I just loved it! The best part? All my least favorite moves were missing! The only thing I'd change is that next time I'll do the abs first. I managed to get out three pikes, but I couldn't hold myself in plank with my arms already fried. That biceps segment was intense! (Cathe is completely insane, starting with 10 pounds... crazy lady.)

Cardio today. Probably NOT kickbox since my arms are still shaky ;)

Brenda- At this point, I don't care if it's natural or not, but I would prefer something not too poisonous just because it's really close to the dog's potty area. But, we can keep him away from stuff pretty well. We've tried Terro, and that did almost nothing. We did sugar mixed with baking soda, and that killed a bunch, but not even close to the whole amount. I've heard sprinkling grits or cream of wheat over the area works, too. I'll think we'll try that while looking into the powdered silica. DH also wants to try boiling them out, maybe with white vinigar mixed with the boiling water. But there are billions of them. It's really gross

Sue- How was Avengers? DH wants to see it pretty badly.

Laurie- I agree with others. My freshman roomate and I were much better friends after we roomed with other people :)

Hi Susan! Hi Heartymax! I agree with you about those staggered pushups. Cruel.

Have a good day, everybody. Stick it out on this yucky day, and it sounds like we'll be rewarded on tomorrow and Friday.

Good morning! Today was a 4 mile run. It was a bit breezy but not too bad! Glad I went out. :) My hamstrings were sore from yesterday though so I will be doing extra stretching tonight!

Sam: I like PUB as well. I have not done her pyramids in a long time. Hope you like the results you'll get!

Have a great day ladies! Looks like great weather from here on out!:)

Stay strong~ Susan

Morning Ladies,

Last night I went to watch my youngest run her 200m race. She did a great job, and PR'd for both events she ran. Very proud of her, she started out the season thinking that she wasn't that great of a runner. She is ending her season realizing that she is actually very good at running. I think winning and getting metals has been the affirmation.

This morning I did Criss Cross Cardio, and since youngest has to help out at a middle school track meet tonight, I'm going to get in Pure Strength Legs & Abs after work.

I think the oldest and her roommate will be friends again, they really liked each other at first. Now she is getting a house, and has her own room. She has always had her own room, so I'm sure it was hard rooming with someone that took over.

Sam, Oh dang I missed the S&H deal of the day! :( I still have those on VHS, and I think that it is time to get that one on DVD. :D Guess I will have to wait on that one. I like the PS series, because she does between 10-12 reps, so you can lift pretty heavy with them. The PUB abs are tough for sure. I think that is one of her toughest. LOL that is when I love doing kickboxing the most! Have to wonder why I love to torture my upper body so much. :D

Susan, I'm so glad that your magazine workouts are doing what you want them to do.

Brenda, I think as you do those Weider workouts you will like the airplane/trane and surfer move more. I found that as my core got stronger, those moves got eaiser. :) I love combining different workouts too. ;)

Sue, That is how I felt about the GS series, I was having a real hard time motivating myself to do the workouts again. May have been from the floorwork in GS Legs. :p I know that the floorwork in PS I can handle much better. I was having a hard time enjoying any of the band work in those workouts. STS wasn't a problem, so I don't know what was up with that. :D

heartymax, I think that you should put in a complaint that Cathe can't do anymore workouts that end hard! :D Just look at all the ones KPC (Pikes on the ball), PLB (more pikes on the ball) etc... ;)

Have a great day!

This morning I did STS Disc 2 using my woody band for the pullups/chinups. Those are still hard for me - even with the thickest band. Looking forward to STS Legs on Friday.

Laurie - Your yougest DD is doing very well in Track! Looks like she's following in her sister's footsteps after all. DS said he didn't throw well last night and still came in 5th out of 9 guys. He sounded a little bummed but there's another Meet tomorrow.

Sam - Avengers was great! Definitely a movie to see in a theatre full of people. Lots of action, good writing, good acting - it had it all.

Heartymax - Oh, good, I'm glad I'm not the only one to deface my STS book. ;) So far, so good with all the equipment changes.

Susan - I am SO looking forward to great weather! Maybe I'll be brave one of these mornings and go outside for a jog/walk.

Brenda - What a great cardio combo you did yesterday! Those Boot Camp cardio blasts are tough stuff.

Good Afternoon Ladies!

This morning was Day 2 of Week 3 of the X-Factor and again I added on the Bonus step portion from her LIS series. I love that one!

Last night worked in my flower beds for a while, still trying to clean up dead stuff. I was working on one of my lavender plants and the scent was all over my pants and my cats went nuts over it. They acted as if it was catnip. The one was head butting my leg and then actually bit my leg lightly. It was too funny watching him wig out.

Sue - sorry, I didn't see your post from over the weekend. How cool is that, that we work in the same area. If you don't' mind me asking, what is the name of the company. That would be neat if sometime we could meet someplace in the area and actually get to meet each other in person.

Heartymax - I love, love Afterburn. I do have to say though that I really like the walking planks, maybe not so much with the staggered push ups but I love how that move works so much of your upper body.

Susan - I give you so much credit for all the running you do. I'm not big on running, I have such a hard time with it. Put me on the elliptical or doing step and I'm good.

Sam - I'm so glad you loved PUB. Aren't your biceps just fried after that workout. Actually the entire upper body. Let me check on some other remedies I've read about for getting rid of ant hills that won't harm your pet. I know I love my cats so I wouldn't want to take any chances. Ant hills are so gross. They freak me out.

Laurie - congrats to you DD on her race. That is so awesome!! Okay.. you keep surprising me with these workouts that I've heard of before. What is criss cross cardio? It sounds kind of familiar.

Enjoy the rest of your day!!
Brenda

Hi Sue,

As usual, we were posting around the same time.

Your making want to STS again. I might have to start that up again after X-Factor. I do have to say not lifting much weights for the last few weeks, I really miss it.

Do you have Cathe's tower? I broke down and got it before I did round 2 of STS and I'm so glad that I did.

Make it a great day!!
