Buff Badgers Week of July 18th

Cathlete
Hello everyone. On Saturday I did Hiit 30/30 followed by the pyramid down premix of PUB. That is my favorite way to do PUB and allows me to go heavier and quickly add on upper body after a cardio workout. On Sunday, we took our boys to an amusepark park for an entire day of fun so all that walking counting as my exercise.......I am totally exhausted today. Yes, I had ice cream and funnel cake.....hey----that is what the amusepark is for:D Back to reality this week.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Good Morning

Today I did Core Transformer. Yesterday I did RKS disk 10.

Heartymax, I'll have to try that workout combo. you did over the weekend, it sounds like a good workout. Amusement parks are definitely for eating yummy food like that. I'll bet you are wiped out.

Hi to everyone else. Enjoy this sticky weather.

Good morning. I had a good weekend, with far too much mayonnaise  Friday I did Tonique 2.2 for the first time. It was really tough. I couldn't get all the way through it. I found all those lunges strangely invigorating, though. I'll have to try it again. I also did Stability Ball Abs and a segment from Stretch Max. Saturday I did the step only premix from Cardio & Weights. I did it with risers for the first time. I had to catch my breath after each segment, but I did okay and didn't modify anything. Yesterday was an unplanned rest day. Today I'm planning on doing Muscle Max this afternoon and 30 minutes of some easier cardio in the evening.

Heartmax- I LOVE carnival/fair food. Although the WI State Fair is supposed to have deep-fried butter this year. I don't think I'll be trying that one. I think PUB/PLB should be the next Cathe strength workout I purchase. It sounds like it's really versatile with some great premixes.

Karen- Are you following the RKS rotation or just using it as you please?

Sue- From last week: you said you're having trouble finding a good place for your kiddos to do homework. I think it's different for every kid. Some work better with no distractions, and some work better with a little background activity or noise. I know for awhile when I was slacking, my parents made me sit at the dining room table for two hours minimum, and I had to be working on something. If I was truly done with homework, I had to be drilling math or reviewing notes. It's funny. I was not a diligent student, but ended up being a teacher.

Hello everyone else! Stay cool this week.

Sam - I think the dining room approach works best for my kids. The only problem is that invariably they have something to lookup on the internet which is in our office and it's harder to tell if they're actually doing work or checking out Facebook or an online game. I check on them and sometimes catch them goofing off but that doesn't stop them from doing it again. PUB/PLB is a great workout. I always do the abs in PUB before the upper body because my arms are too tired at the end to do pikes.

Heartymax - I'm not a big fan of funnel cakes but I love ice cream and cream puffs! You probably walked off those extra calories so no worries. ;)

Karen - Every time I see Transformer I think of the Transformer movie and I haven't even seen it! LOL I'll let you know after the softball game tonight if I'm enjoying the sticky weather. Got out of the movies last night at 8:30 and it felt like we were in the Caribbean - not Wisconsin.

Here's how my weekend went:
Friday - S90 Tabata Interval + Butt Bible Lower #2
Saturday - S90 Chest, Shoulders, Triceps
Sunday - Rest
Monday - S90 Total Body

BB #2 was okay. Just okay. . . The instructor talks non-stop but doesn't have anything valuable to say. It makes me me wish Exercise TV had an "instructor off" option. She would drive me crazy listening to her all the time. Was glad I did this workout as an add-on because after a few butt squeezes as a warmup, you do plyo lunges right away alternating with the butt squeezes for 3 sets. I wouldn't have felt warmed up enough to do these if I hadn't done the workout as an add-on. S90 does some plyo lunges in the warmup, too, but not as many and after you've done a few other moves. The workout is longer than #1 (35 min. vs. 23 min.) but I wasn't sore with either BB workout which is strange. I was watching the clock the whole time. I'll try #3 this week but so far I can't recommend these workouts. Cathe's Butts & Gutts is much better.

Went to see Harry Potter yesterday. We were going to wait but changed our minds. It was really good. I think I pulled a muscle in my back somehow so may take a rest day tomorrow if it's not better. I just want to go home and stretch.

Hello ladies! My weekend went by way too fast! Saturday was a 45mn walk and then KenpoX. Sunday was washing both vehicles, walk the dog and housework. This morning was P90X chest/back/abs followed by 30mn on the elliptical.

DH took DS to the cabin for 4 days so it's just DD and I. Pretty quiet around here! Now that I don't have any vacation, I won't get to the cabin this year.:(

Sue, I don't think I would like that BB instructor. That was funny about wishing Exercise TV had an option.;) I want to go see Harry, maybe this weekend...

Sam, I really like Cardio & Weights, especially the music. I bet you're a great teacher!:)

Karen, I am not enjoying this weather! Looks like you had rain over the weekend. We are finally getting some now. However, I doubt it's going to help the humidity!

Heartymax, the amusement park sounds like fun. I too bet you walked off those calories! If not, drink lots of fluids to help flush it out!:D

Have a good night! I am going to change, then go do some nice stretching!

Today was slow and heavy legs and shoulders followed by a few quick planks. I haven't done slow and heavy since last fall but I do remember what great results I got from using it.

Sue---the BB instructor sounds annoying......

Sam---I forgot how much fun Cardio and Weights was. I recall it having really great music and I love some good music. You should definitely put the Pyramid set on your wish list. I know people have a tendency to want most of Cathe's workouts and I have my fair share of them, but I will say that PUB is one I use more than others over the years. It could be because it was in my first Cathe purchase.

Susan---enjoy the "QT" you have with your DD. It should be fun catching up on some girl stuff.

Karen---the weather is sticky here all week...so not much outside activities for the boys. Hopefully it will cool off a little in the evenings so they can get outside and play basketball. They usually enjoy having a few neighbors over to play hoops every evening from 7 to 9. Works out great and at least I know they are getting some exercise.

I'm Back! Good morning! Today was Plyox and this evening I might get on the elliptical for a little bit, we'll see how I feel!

Hope you all are staying cool in this miserable humidity/heat! Yuck! DH and DS are catching lots of fish up north but he said it's supposed to be really hot up there so he may head home earlier. They have an air conditioner but in this heat, it's not enough!

Have a great day! I'll check back later-Susan

Good Morning,

Today will be the group bike ride. Should be a hot one. 95 with over 100 humidity.

Susan, you have so much energy for so many workouts. I am lucky to get in a short one and then I am tired. Seems to be getting worse over time.

Heartymax, I always liked S/H. Some of her comments in that series are great. Nice your boys can get out with some of their friends and get some exercise.

Sue, Glad you enjoyed your movie. Great workouts as usual. Are you going to the faire this year?

Sam, I was following the rotation until today when I decided doing RKS and the bike ride tonight on such a hot day would not be good for me. I was thinking of Tonique with sliding disks. Do you think that would work? I haven't done those in a long time. It is weird how you can like those lunge/squat sequence but still hate them. Deep fried butter, I don't know about that.

Have a wonderful day.

Wow, is it hot! I'm going crazy being stuck in the house with a very hyper puppy and a very hyper toddler. I think I'll have to figure out a way to get out of the house today. But, it's a good time to be an indoor exerciser, that's for sure.

DH did his frst S90 DVD today! Yippee!

Did Muscle Max as planned yesterday and KCM's Stepboxing (just the cardio) in the evening. Is it normal to have weight gain after a weight workout? I'm not worried about it, but this morning I weighed a good three or four pounds more than yesterday. I know, I know. I shouldn't weigh myself every day

Cardio only today. Not sure what, yet. I may have to go with my old favorite, the LIS/HIS premix.

Heartymax- Yes, Cardio and Weights has great music. I'm always grinning at the end during "Buttercup". I DO want all of Cathe's videos :D, it's hard for me to figure out which ones should be first on my list.

Sue- I envy you for seeing Harry Potter! I can't wait. I've read all the books at least twice (some three times). I've been a huge fan for a very long time. We just need someone who's willing to babysit and dogsit. My SIL said she might be able to on Friday. I'm crossing my fingers... Sounds like those BB workouts are not very well planned. I can put up with a lot of things in a video, but an annoying instructor is just too much.

Susan- I certainly wouldn't blame your DH and DS for returning early. Ugh! We're going up north at the end of the month - I really hope it's not anything like this. We don't have AC.

Karen- Tonique with gliding discs could be be a possibility. Hmmm.... I may have to try that. I had never done a Tonique before. I got Tonique 2 and CardioMat for free from a very generous person on the Video Fitness boards. I can see how the workouts could be strangely addictive. Be careful outside in all this heat and humidity.

Have a great day, everyone! I think a trip to Target is in order. DS is bouncing off the walls.

Today was the cardio and abs portion from Cardio and Weights! Thank you Sam for the reminder of this fun step workout. There are days that I need a workout that is not so high impact on the knees and this one was perfect this morning. I said I was not going to order the new workouts but I am starting to question that. I am sure 1 DVD alone will be about $25 and then the sliding discs states $20 retail if I purchase them separately....hmm....so I could end up spending half the cost of just getting the entire set. Do I sound like I am trying to justify spending more money....aargghhhh......

Karen--how far did you bike yesterday? It is supposed to be really hot again today and get worse by the end of the week. Stay cool!

Hi Susan and Sue!

I am visiting a friend today who has boys the same age as mine. Our kids enjoy hanging out but we don't get together that often. Looking forward to some girl talk and the boys having fun.

Good Morning! Today was shoulders/arms/abs from P90X. My shoulders are sore I went heavier than usual and now I am paying the price! Did not get on the elliptical after work. It was a long day and I was tired. Decided to read the new Janet Evanovich book instead!;)

DH and DS decided to withstand the heat and return tomorrow afternoon as planned. At least that is what he said last night!

Heartymax, I spend too much time talking myself in and out of purchases, drive myself nuts!:) I hope you enjoy your time with your friend and the boys as well.

Karen, when I see bicyclists riding in this heat, it amazes me! I'd be so tired!

Have a great day all. Try to stay in a cool place or at least think cool thoughts!

Susan

Hi gals,

Last nights ride was only 28 miles because of storms. We got caught in storms and rain the last 5 miles, didn't turn around soon enough. Today I did RKS disk 11 and Rapid Fire Kickbox segment, only one of them. Nice workout if you like kickbox, boxing, abwork and heavy bag work. She is a great instructor. I actually loved the part I did.

Susan, you should be paying the price for going heavy on your shoulder work for a few days. A book sounds good after a long day. Are you enjoying your new job?

Heartymax, You know you will love the new Cathe workouts and at the presale price you have to have them. Love Cardio and Weights. I have to start pulling out some of my older dvds. Enjoy your girl talk time and watching your boys have a grand time.

Sam, did you end up going to the store yesterday? Your puppy is adorable. I am assuming you have been trying to get your DH to do some kind of exercise? I thought I saw a post from you over on the VF boards. Very cool you have those dvds.

Have a great day. I am packing for our vacation next week. We leave Sat.

:)

Did my trusty LIS/HIS premix yesterday. I was inspired to do a round of 4DS as intended to mix some heavy weights into all the light weight work I've been doing lately. So the plan tonight is the kickbox/legs workout.

I've also been refocusing my eating efforts. I'd like to lose another 20-25 pounds and I would rather it not take a full year

Karen- ONLY 28 miles? Wow. :) Yes, I've been trying to get DH to do ANY weight work. He's slimmed down a lot over the past couple of years (though he was never really heavy), but I'm worried he's "skinny fat", and he has some pretty scary family history. I got him S90 for his birthday over a month ago, and he's finally just getting into now, since it's too hot to jog. I did go to the store yesterday... just to get out of the house but still stay cool.

Heartymax- Glad you had fun with Cardio & Weights. It's a nice in-between workout. I have preordered the Low Impact series, and I'm pretty excited about it. I don't mind a little high impact, but I have a tweaky back/neck that tends to act up if I do too much jumping.

Hello Susan and Sue!

Karen - I'm trying to talk some of my sisters into going with me to State Fair since DH, DS and DD will be in Indy the 1st weekend in August. Do you have any plans on going? Do you want me to get $4 tickets for you again?

Sam - I remember those babysitter days and what a big deal it was for us to get a sitter (just moved into our house and didn't know many people) to see Titanic years ago. I have quite a few pounds to lose myself (25-30). I'm a stress eater and hypothyroid so weight loss is so sloooowwwww. I need to eat less processed food. Have been very lazy lately in terms of food prep - both for my lunches and dinner. Should try again to give up diet soda, too.

Hi, Susan, Laurie, Lala and Heartymax!

Took a rest day yesterday because my back still hurt. DH wants to go to the county fair tonight (yes, tonight with a heat index of 105). I may let him go with the kids and I'll stay home and catch up on workouts. Haven't decided which yet.

Hi there! Today was 45mn on the elliptical and a short pilates routine. Will do more pilates after work.

Karen, I really am enjoying my new job. The people I work with are very nice and funny which makes it worthwhile. I am still learning more every day. I would be afraid to be riding during a storm! Where are you going on vacation?

Sam, the "eating thing" has to be the hardest. For me, once I really focused, it came off. Now I do not have those cravings for the salty, sweet stuff which makes it easier. You can do it!

Sue I hope the temps are not as hot when you go to the State Fair! Did your family go to the County last night? Hope your back is feeling better!

Have a great day and stay strong -Susan

Sue ----I am dreaming of a state fair corn dog!!

Sam---I do think I am going to break down and pre-order before the deadline. I remember the days of babysitter. I was pretty lucky for a while. I found a high school student in my neighborhood who would babysit for me and that worked out well. After she went to college, one of her younger neighborhood friends picked up and started sitting for me ocassionally. It was nice being able to go out for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas shopping, etc. If you find one---just make sure you are very clear on your expectations on rules for teens. I had a NO TAKING ON THE PHONE rule because kids can get into anything while I a teen is deep into a conversation on a phone with friends.

Karen----I am happy to be an indoor exerciser this week. It is so hot! I this humidity gets better soon just for you. I know how much you enjoy the outdoors.

Susan-----shoulder burning is a good feeling!! Great going up in weight.

This morning was Slow and Heavy triceps and biceps and abs. This is my favorite Slow and Heavy workout. I smile when I find myself lifting heavier than Cathe or when she drops down in weight "claiming" the weight is too heavy. Yeah right-------but I do appreciate the little things Cathe does to make us feel good.

Good Morning,

Today I don't know what I will do? How's that for a plan. Early dentist cleaning for DD, summer school for DS and have to take other DD to work because DH need the van before she normally gets home.

Heartymax, funny how you work out with Cathe and go heavier if you can. When I do that workout I drop when she does. I figure if she does, I can too. I think your thinking is going to get you further than my way of thinking.

Susan, glad you are enjoying your job. It sure makes a difference if you like the people where you work. We don't quite know yet. We were suppose to go to Colorado again but it didn't work out with DH relatives there this year, too busy. We will probably travel Wi. and visit my family to save on hotel costs and find some things to do down south.

Sue, you have to go to the fair for me. Eat some good food, but not too much. Hope you can get someone to go with you. We won't be down there that week unfortunately. Our vacation ends on the 31st, then back to lots of soccer. What did you decide to do last night--workout or fair?

Sam, I love that premix. I actually love the whole 4DS series. I am glad you DH is starting S90. Short workouts that get the job done, what's not to like.:)

Hi Lala.

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the babysitter sympathy ;) We actually have it very good. Both grandmas live in Waukesha, and my MIL in particular is usually willing to sit in the evenings. However, she's not a dog person (at. all.) so until the puppy is totally housebroken, I think she's going to be off the hook for awhile. My brother and his wife are usually willing to sit, also, so I really have nothing to complain about. Heartymax, I know what you mean about kids on the phone. My goodness. I think if we ever have a teen sitter, I may have to make them turn their phone in to me so they can't text, either!

Anyway, my SIL is going to sit for us tomorrow night so we can see Harry Potter. I'm very excited and already bought the tickets last night! I haven't had a "date night" with DH in awhile, and we usually try to go out once or twice a month, so it should be fun.

Sue and Karen, glad I'm not the only one who finds the "eating stuff" the hardest part of weight loss/healthy living, etc. My problem isn't sweets, but stuff like fried food, chips and burgers, and of course, cheese  I can tell you for sure I'll be indulging in some buttered popcorn tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I did the Kickbox/Legs workout from 4 DS last night and went way heavier than the last time I did it, which was encouraging. I've stopped using a barbell for leg work, though. It's hard on my low back, and I have a hard time getting my weights switched quickly anyway.

Have a great day!

Sam - Hurray you get to see HP tomorrow! One word of advice: get there early to get a good seat. That's where we screwed up and I ended up in the front row.

Karen - I opted to watch So You Think You Can Dance last night. Was super tired and just wanted to curl up on the sofa.

No workout yet today. Kids have dentist and eye doc this afternoon. Will workout later. I have 3 w/o's to do to get caught up. Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen.

Sam----enjoy your night out to see Harry Potter. My 13 year old read all the books when he was younger and saw all the movies. Interesting.....he has not asked to go see this one. He went to see Transformers last week....so maybe he is waiting to ask to see this one later.

Sue---you reminded me of all the appointments I need to make before the kids go back to school.

Hi Karen and Lala.

No workout for me today. My shin/calf or something has been bothering me on my left leg. I have been pressing forward and working out all week. I think I am going to rest it for a few days to see if it gets better.

Have a great weekend!
