Buff Badgers Week of April 23rd

Cathlete
We had some sunshine on Saturday and the rain started that night and has pretty much continued. It is expected to be high 49 today and it was about the same. I was cold as we prepared for church yesterday morning. I am tired of this on and off chilly weather.

I went bathing suit shopping again on Saturday. A month ago I found two pairs of swim shorts that I really liked and I purchased those but couldn't find a bikini top that gave me the kind of support that I need for a 36C. I was able to find something on Saturday even though it came with a heftier price tag than I wanted to pay. I purchased a two piece bikini and an extra bikini top to wear with those swim shorts that I got earlir. Those 3 pieces cost $145 and that is with using a 20% off coupon. I asked myself if I lost my mind and I just reminded myself that the swimwear that cost less didn't offer the support that I needed and then I would end up not wearing it or feeling comfortable in it. I love the colors also----turquoise, pink, white and black.

Saturday was 40 minutes on the elliptical and Sunday was a rest day for me. My body was tired and needed it. This morning was Rhythmic Step minus the bonus as usual. I also did 33 push ups before doing the step workout.

Morning Ladies,

This morning I finally feel sooooo much better. I have done nothing of importance as far as exercise is concerned. But this morning I did STS Disc 34 Chest & Back. I don't have that stuffed head feeling. Not 100%, but getting there faster.

heartymax, I have to do swim suit shopping also, and I'm dreading it. :p I love the color combo. We also have the cold weather, it sure would be nice to have some warmth soon.

Have a great day!

Good morning! despite my very best intentions, there were no workouts for me this weekend. Saturday was DS's birthday party and exercise got lost in the preparations. Sunday I was so wiped (and feeling bad from the food the day before) that it didn't happen.

Laurie- I'm so happy to hear you're feeling better!

Heartymax- I'm at a loss for swimsuits this year. I'm thinking a really athletic-style tankini. My pregnancy pretty much took regular bikini tops off the table for me :p

If you get today's Cathe newsletter email, you can scroll down and see a picture of me doing a side kick! I feel famous

Have a great Monday, everyone.

Sam! Wow, you're famous! To pick a picture featuring you out of all the pictures they have must make you feel special. :D You look a little tentative in the picture though. Do you recall what was going through your head when they snapped the picture? How did the cake turn out?

Laurie - I'm glad you're feeling better. DS is home today with a cold. He was blowing his nose at church non-stop yesterday. If I knew he was feeling so poorly I would have made him stay home. He had an outdoor Track Meet on Saturday which didn't help. He got a PR in shotput and discus (discus doesn't really count because it was his first measured throw in competition).

Heartymax - Swimsuits are nowhere on my radar until I lose at least 15 pounds. You're worth the money so show off those great abs in a bikini top!

Brenda - I thought I had a busy Saturday until I read about yours! Is that normal for you to get up so early or did you have trouble sleeping?

Hi, Susan!

I did Michele Dozois Peak 10 Cardio Strength on Saturday. If you don't have this workout, it is a really good one. I modify some of the high impact moves and only use 5 and 10 pound dumbbells and STILL get my butt kicked! Lots of room to grow with this workout. Yesterday I did upper and lower body on my own using Body for Life training method and went outside for a 1 mile walk.

I had a setback with the eating on Friday. Problems with DD and school again. :( Starting over again today. No workout yet today. Had to work yesterday so I was up early Saturday and Sunday so too tired when 4:30 came around. Will workout tonight.

Good Afternoon!

I agree, I too am tired of this cold weather. At this point I'd be happy with anything above 60.

My Saturday workout consisted of Cardio Super Sets and the step portion. Had a really good workout. The rest of the weekend was very busy with cleaning my folks house, bundling up and doing some yard work outside, running errands. Sunday was my rest day (at least from working out).

I finally decided to start Weider's X-Factor: ST today. I'm in week one. The workout is originally about 40 min long. Since I prefer to at least get an hour in, I repeated part of it to make it go an hour. The rotation is Mon/Wed/Friday of the X-Factor and the other three days cardio of my choice. It was a pretty good workout. You don't lift any weights. You work with your own body weight. It'll be interesting to see how the workouts change from week to week.

Heartymax - I too need a new swim suit this year and I hate shopping for them. I have such a hard time finding something that looks decent on me. You do the 33 push-ups all at one time? Wow... that's really good.

Laurie - so glad to hear you are feeling better and then you jump right back in and do STS Disc 34... you go girl!

Sam - How did DS birthday party go? How did the cake decorating go? I can't wait to see Cathe's newsletter to see you picture. How cool is that!

Make it a great day!!
Brenda

Hi Sue,

We must have been posting at the same time. I didn't see yours until I posted my reply.

I have been looking at Peak 10 by Michele. Looked like a really good workout. Glad to know someone that has tried it. I'll have to put that on my list for future buys.

It's normal for me to get up that early. I workout before I go to work and I'm at work around 6:15am. Sunday's are my days to sleep in. Sleeping in for me is 5am. I'll take it though. I used to work out after work but then by the time I was done working out and then I had to make supper it was well after 7pm. About 6 years ago I changed gears and started working out early in the AM, which is nice knowing that I have it in for the day. Many times I don't get out of work until 4:30-5pm and am tired from the craziness at work. Many people think I'm crazy for getting up that early to workout. I'm used to it and it works for me.

Brenda

Sam----Love the side kick! You look great! Your hair color is different from your profile pic. I think I remember you pampering yourself a while ago and enjoying some color at the hair salon. Is that correct?

Laurie---You are more than back if you can return from an illness to STS Chest and Back! WTG!

Sue---in spite of our Cathe muscles----those 5lb dumbells can still surprise us.

Brenda----I focus on push ups a few times a year and trying to increase my strength and county. A little over a year ago I couldn't even do one push up on my toes. I started out just trying to do them on my knees and that was a struggle. After my first round of STS Meso 1, I went from 0 to about 8 on my toes and I have just been working at since then. My consecutive count now is at 33. I usually just focus on doing 4 to 5 sets and every so often I just do consecutive to see how much I can increase the count.

Well, today was Slow and Heavy Triceps, Biceps and Abs. Like Sue, I forgot about those 5lb dumbells. I found my self reaching for them by the last couple of reps. Exhausting the muscle group and that slow count is definitley a burner. I haven't done this workout in so long until I can't even remember how long.

Hi Gang! Sorry for not posting yesterday. I had a bad case of the grumpies and decided not to bring it here! I took a long walk after work and did some pilates and felt better. This morning I went for a run. It was so nice outside. I am glad I did it. Went for about 3.5 miles.:D

My weekend was quiet. Saturday I did Jillians Shed & Shred #1 and Sunday I did #2. She does talk a lot in these workouts. I tend to just tune her out and focus on what I am doing. :)

Swimsuit shopping... hate it! I don't think I need a new suit this year, but then again I haven't tried on the old one yet!

Have a great day ladies! Susan

Good morning! Yesterday I did my first CTX workout, Power Circuits. I'm really glad I purchased this set. I liked just focusing on one body part. I tend to feel like I just fake it through back exercises, and this one forced me to really focus. I liked it!

Sue- You know, I was looking through those pictures and I sort of have that face all the time. I think I was very focused on not tripping :p My cake turned out very well. I had never used a piping bag before, but I don't think anyone can tell. I'm planning on taking a little cake decorating class this summer and honing my skills a bit. Cake isn't my favorite thing to eat, but I like decorating it! Sorry you had some problems with DD again :( I hope you can get things worked out.

Heartymax- My hair is generally some version of dark blonde / light brown with highlights. I go every 10 weeks or so for a trim and highlights. In fact, I'm going tonight! It's my zone-out time. Plus, I love my hairdresser. He does my mom's hair, DH's hair, and DS's hair, so we always have lots to talk about.

Brenda- Party was great. DS had a fantastic time, but I'm still a little worn out :) Enjoy those Weider workouts. I know Laurie likes them.

Susan- A nice walk and a little workout can really turn the day around, can't it? I tend to get the grumps really bad on Mondays, too.

Have a great day! It's musical week at school. The kids spend the whole week working with professional actresses that come in, audition them, and work on nothing but the musical which is Friday. So, the teachers end up being more babysitters than anything else. I don't mind, though. It's a lot of fun to watch it come together.

Morning Ladies,

This morning I though I would try out a Plyo Leg workout. This was a bit of a cough fest, and then I went and got a cough drop. Yes I was jumping around with a cough drop in my mouth. I did Disc 32 Plyo Legs. I think I will try the last plyo leg workout toward the end of the week. :D

Sam, That is so cool that you are on the newsletter. ;) Glad your DS had a great birthday. You are going to have a blast with those other CTX workouts. One of her best sets, and even though the cardio is only 30 min., they are tough.

Sue, Was your DS at the Mukwonago track? I know they had the conference relays on Saturday. My youngest was at the West track for the girls. She is on the JV, and both her relays (200 & 400) came in first. They missed beating Arrowhead by 4 points. :( Sorry to hear about your DD, I feel for ya.

Brenda, I love those Weider workouts. :D I gained so much upper body and core strength doing those 3-4 times a week. I'm was on the tail end of my STS rotation, had like 5 workouts left when I got this cold. :p But now that I had all that rest I'm going to head into my next rotation of Gym Styles next week instead of taking a week off. ;)

heartymax, S&H is a killer! I have not tried those workouts in quite a while either. Still have those on VHS! I have to get this last week of STS done, or I feel like I will have failed.

Susan, LOL about the grumpies, that is a good way to say those feelings. ;) I get those once in a while also. How do you like that Shed DVD. Still have not been able to try it out.

Have a great day!

Brenda - I think you'll like the Peak 10 workouts. I've only tried Peak Cardio Strength but Karen who used to post here raved about them and she is an advanced exerciser. Looks like you're having fun with the Weider workouts. I know Laurie liked them. I'm just not feeling like buying a new system until I use what I have. Hey, I got up almost as early as you this morning!

Heartymax - Good job doing 33 consecutive pushups! That's amazing what you've been able to accomplish in a year.

Susan - I get the grumpies, too. ;) Come here and vent if you want. I certainly do enough.

Sam - Forgot to tell you yesterday that you look great! Nice arm definition. Your musical week sounds interesting. What musical are they doing? Our high school did "Happy Days" recently and it was fabulous.

Karen - Hello, in case you're reading this. We miss you!

Laurie - I had to laugh at the thought of jumping around with a cough drop in your mouth but you know what - I'd do the same thing! Yes, DS was at Mukwonago. He competed on JV (I think for the first time). I sent him off with kleenex and cough drops. Too bad you guys didn't beat Arrowhead! You know how I love it when someone beats Arrowhead. :D

Did 10 Pound Slimdown Extreme Total Body workout this morning. This is my early morning so I got up at 4:10! Ugh - glad I don't do that every day. I didn't workout last night like I should have so that's why I got up so early to workout.

Hi Ladies,

Heartymax - gosh, I haven't done Slow & Heavy in a really super long time. It's nice to bring out some of the old workouts once in a while

Susan - glad to hear you felt better after your run and pilates. Once in a while the fresh air and being outside can do wonders.

Sam - that was so awesome that your picture was in Cathe's newsletter. I showe DH and he thought that was pretty cool. I haven't done CTX in it's entirely at all. Glad you like it though. Have fun with musical week.

Laurie - Plyo Legs... did you happen to have one of the workouts that had the one legged squat thrusts? I do like the plyo leg workouts. Don't like some of the exercises in them and that usually means those are the ones I need to do more of.

I'm glad I'm finally doing Weider's X-Factor. My butt was actually sore from yesterday's workout so I must have been doing something right. Today was my cardio day so I went with Intensity and got my butt kicked by Cathe again. Loved every minute of it though.

The workouts have been feeling a little hard lately. This week seems a little better than last week. I think part of it has to do with work. It's been really stressful lately. It's not going to get better anytime soon. It is what it is and keep on going. My favorite Cathe saying.. "no time for down time".

Make it a great day!!
Brenda

Hi Sue,

We posted at the same time again and I missed yours.

Its' nice to hear about other workouts that I dont' have and how you like them.

Is the 10 pound Slimdown a Beach Body workout?

Brenda

Yesterday was my oldest DS turned 14. We went out to dinner and I had a buffalo chicken wrap with tortillas and salsa. We had ice cream cake at home and I had one slice. The rest is in the freezer and will come out the next time they have friends over to play basketball.

Youngest DS is not feeling well so I am off to take him to the doctor today. I just finished After Burn workout this morning. I actually like this workout------check my pulse somebody!

Brenda---I love some Cathe's phrases too. They make me laugh and truly get a kick out of them.

Sue---WTG on getting up early this morning. I am used to it but I recognize that it is not easy for those who are not on this schedule.

Laurie---Plyo Legs are so awesome! Careful with cough drop:eek: Hang in there and you will feel so accomplished when STS is over.

Sam--glad you enjoyed CTX. Maybe one day it won't be a dust collector in my house.

Susan---hope your morning run helped you get rid of the grumpies. Something about the clean fresh air outside will do that:D

DH is still hanging in there with his workouts. I am hoping to convince him to try some STS upper body workouts. He didn't say no----so we will see if I can get him to give it a try over the next few weeks.

Morning Ladies,

This morning was STS Disc 33 Shoulders, Biceps & Triceps. No coughing this morning, so feeling better and better.

Sue, Love those 10lb Slimdown workouts. ;) I'm hoping to at least try the kickboxing one soon. :D I'm the same way about Arrowhead. The JV got 7 first places out of 15, so they would have needed just a couple more. Oh well they will have there chance again at the conference meet.

Brenda, Oh yes those lovely one legged thrust squats are in these, they are also in those Weider workouts. Can't remember which week, but for sure it isn't 15 sec. per side like the plyo leg workouts. I don't like the half turn move, and she has them in three of the plyo leg workouts.

heartymax, Happy Birthday to you oldest! Sounds like a very good dinner, and cake. My DD's love the ice cream cake also. Hope your youngest is ok. I have only three workouts left of STS, and on the last SBT workout I'm going to do the higher percent. I think I can lift todays weight for 8 reps.;)

Have a great day!

Good morning. Yesterday was CTX 10-10-10, with triceps. That old-school hi-lo really kicks my rear. As I was gasping for air and doing high kicks wih my calves burning, I thought of that one time I attempted MIC

Luckily the hi-lo only lasts for 10 minutes. ;)

Laurie- The mental image of you bouncing around with a cough drop knocking around your mouth is very funny.

Heartymax- CTX is fitting in well for me right now, but I can see how you might not get a lot of use out of them if you're more focused on strength training. I would like to do more, but I think it's going to have to wait till summer.

Brenda- Yes, I felt quite famous :) Say hi to your DH for me, it was nice to meet him on the RT.

Sue- We're doing a crazy, silly version of Sleeping Beauty. We hire people to come in and do the whole thing. It's done, start to finish, in 5 days, so it's not perfect, but the kids have a ton of fun. With a little school like ours and very limited staff, it's the perfect solution. I get up at 4:00 when I work out in the mornings, but I can't remember the last time that actually happened. ;)

I let my hairdresser cut about 4 inches off my hair last night. I now have a very modern, shoulder-skimming haircut with bangs. NO ONE HAS NOTICED! DH noticed, but no one else has said a word. Oh, well.

Have a great day!

Brenda - 10 Pound Slimdown and 10 Pound Slimdown Extreme are by Chris Freytag. I believe I bought mine from Total Fitness. I only have the Extreme one, not the original 10PSD. Depending on how heavy you go with your weights, these can be quite challenging. Laurie has used them more than I have. The kickbox workout is really fun.

Sam - I want a picture of your new haircut. I'm sure people have noticed but haven't said anything. It doesn't mean they don't like it - they could have other things on their mind. I know I'm guilty of that. I had mine cut last week and I always have a problem with the bangs growing out too fast and ending up in my eyes. I usually end up cutting them even though I only go 5 weeks between haircuts. This last time I had her cut them super short - almost too short. Now I can't wait for them to grow out a bit. Just can't win.

Laurie - I think DS competed with JV because the Freshman weren't competing separately. Tomorrow he's competing at KM while the JV is at Sussex. This is only his 2nd year of throwing so he has a lot to learn and improve on.

Heartymax - YUM! Ice cream cake. I keep hoping my kids will want one for their birthday to give me an excuse to buy one. They can take it or leave it.

No workout yet today. Tired. These 6 day work weeks kill me. (I had to come in Sunday a.m. to do some stuff while all the users were off the system) Friday can't come soon enough!

Good Afternoon Ladies,

This morning I had X-Factor again. So far I'm liking this. I have one legged squat thrusts to look forward to.. yeah!

Heartymax - Happy Bday to your DS. Tell your DH that he should keep up the good work on the workouts. After 14 years I gave up on trying to get my husband into doing something for workouts. A couple of years ago we bought an elliptical and he was doing that about 4 days a week and dropped 20 lbs. Then he got out of and hasn't gotten back to it since. I'm hoping some day he'll find something that works for him. I love Afterburn!! That sends my heart rate monitor just a beeping away at me.

Laurie - glad to hear you are feeling much better. I agree, I hate the half turns in Plyo legs too. I don't even hold a weight when doing them and my legs just burn by the time I'm done.

Sam - OMG... you cut 4" off your hair. I'm sure it looks very nice on you though. I will tell DH that you said "hi".

Sue - Hang in there at work... that stinks that you had to go in on Sunday. I value my weekends. I hope it calms down somewhat soon.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
Brenda

Hi ladies! Busy day yesterday and didn't get a chance to log on! I did STS Total body yesterday and this morning I did Kick Punch Crunch.

Sam, I bet your new haircut looks adorable! :D I got me hair cut once and no one noticed for over a week!

I will try to check back again later, until then hope you all have a great day~ Susan

Good morning! Yesterday I did CTX Step & Intervals, body part of the day was chest. I'm not used to working my chest with so many reps. It was really burning at the end. I think I actually grunted on the last push-up or two :p This one-body-part-per-day thing is nice but kind of weird. I feel like I'm getting DOMS in slow motion. :D

Susan- Still no one has noticed! *Sigh* I guess my hair is not the center of everyone's universe ;) Most people probably didn't even realize how long it was.

Brenda- I still can't find anything my DH will stick with. For awhile he was doing Supreme 90, but now he's just turned his daily dog walk into a quick jog, which is certainly better than nothing. He also walks to work, but I'd like to see him do more because even though he's a good weight and in general good health, and eats very well, his triglycerides and cholesterol are higher than they should be for a guy who's only 31. His dad died very suddenly of a heart attack a couple years ago, and was also in generally good health. Sorry. I rambled :) I just wish he could find an activity he truly loved.

Sue- I change my hair constantly. I just spent two years growing it out, and now here I am with medium length again. My hairdresser said I'll have to cut my own bangs in between cuts. He showed me how, but I'm a little nervous about it.

Laurie- I'm glad you're cough is easing up. I hate that when I'm feeling better, but the cough is still hanging on. It keeps me from really enjoying my workouts.

Hi Heartymax!

I finally have a night at home tonight! I've had something every night, and I've got the musical tomorrow. I'm looking forward to drinking wine, watching Mad Men, and hanging out with DH.

Have a great day!
