Buff Badgers 11/5-11/9

Is Marie still around?

I feel so bad. :( She emailed me a long time ago and I never wrote back. Guilty as charged........bad friend.

Good Morning,

Jill, glad you are back. I was gone for a few years also and was also welcomed back. These gals are great. Glad things are getting better and congratulations on the weight loss. I sounds like you are much happier.

Today I will do some type of cardio. I put my back out yesterday doing a decline bench press on Slo Mo chest.

Laurie, another good workout yesterday. After working, how do you find the time.

Sue, The reason you are contemplating the other kickbox class because you don't know what the intensity of the Dojo class you go to now will always be? Not the best wording on that question was it?

Susan, wasn't the picture of Sean great. Made my day. Maybe I'll do CC today.

Have a great day all.

Morning BB's,

WELCOME BACK JILL!!!! Of course we welcome you back with open arms. What where you thinking girl. :D Things happen in our lives, we all understand that. Marie pops in every once in a while. She posted about the same time as she e-mailed you. I think she lurks with us when she has the chance. :D Glad to hear that your boys are doing well. Our oldest DD just started HS, and was in cross country this fall. She got on varsity and the girls went to state this year. She had a great time with that and is looking forward to track this spring. Our youngest has ballet and her clarinet (I wish she would practice more x( ) I let everyone else update you on what they have been up to. Oh, and we also went and adopted a dog from the Humane Society. Cami has been a great addition to our family. I call her our lazy dog! Our DD's absolutly adore her!

Susan, Yep as Jill said the CC's can be done on the elliptical very easily. He doesn't use a set speed that you should be at. It is by heart rate or exersion level. You can either buy the CD's or the downloads. If you buy the CD's I think that you also have access to the downloads.

Karen, Ok so it is official, I'm not getting Amy's Slo-Mo yet. :D I have been so-so about her. I was reading a thread on VF and it was about modifying some of the moves. I don't want to have to figure out if something is making me hurt how I can modify. :) I have enough strength workouts that I can live with. Well I will be getting the new series that Cathe is putting out. ;-)

Sue, Well it lookes like the boxing workouts will be delayed for now. I found it funny that people where speculating that the boxing series wasn't going to be produced. Something that was never said. Just love how people speculate. Makes me think of the Ren Faire with the way that rumor mill works. :7 :7 :7

Well todays workout is NOTHING. Today is a rest day, and the start of my last week on the Look Great In 8. So my plans after this are 4-5 weeks of the 4DS weights, with cardio and running. Then I haven't decided if I will be doing a circuit or Barry's BC rotation. We will see.

Have a great day!

Laurie

Thanks so much Laurie & Karen.

Karen, I'm glad you liked the picture of Sean lol. He's pretty easy on the eyes.

Laurie, a high schooler now, huh!? Time sure flies, doesn't it. I swear it seems like Taylor was only born a year ago lol. I just can't believe he's 18 already (had his birthday last week on Halloween). Glad you guys found a nice doggy, too. I just love having a dog and Sammy's the most cuddly, loving dog.

I didn't remember that you guys were into CC! I'm glad. I don't do them that much anymore since I got my ipod. I spend a lot of time configuring playlists to coordinate with the elliptical, bike, and TM. Well not TM as much. As I said, I have the TM set up in my master closet, and I put a tiny tv and dvd in there and usually watch DVDs while on it. The only bad thing is no cable hookup in the closet (gee, go figure lol) so I can't watch the Packers!

RE: CC again, I sometimes find that the beat of the music is actually too slow, not too fast. Laurie do you feel that way? I suppose it's a difference between using the TM and the elliptical; you can go a lot faster on the elliptical but your legs can only go so fast on a TM. Maybe that's why they seem a little slow when I'm on the E.

I'm so happy to be back and exercising again!! I do miss my Cathe workouts though. :(

I sent Marie a quick email. Hopefully she'll come back and join us. I'm so glad you guys all kept this checkin going. Is anyone besides Marie missing? I had a Buff Badgers email thing set up and see that we had Amy and Robin.....are they gone?

Jill - Marie checks in every once in a while so she's still around. I know she bought an elliptical but don't recall if she does CC.

It's great to have you back.:) I miss your humor. That slacker comment to Laurie cracked me up. Laurie is definitely NOT a slacker as we all know. Quite the opposite which is why it's so funny.

Congratulations on your weight loss. Sounds like you're on the right track. I'm still working on it. At the beginning of summer I vowed to lose 10 pounds (actually I wanted to lose 20) by Labor Day and instead I'm up 4! A lot of pressure going on at work and home. We have a weight loss program that just started at work. In fact, I have a meeting today. We were asked to come up with goals and instead of focusing on the numbers so much, I've decided my goals are to drink 8 glasses of water per day (I drink mostly coffee and diet soda for the caffeine - bad I know) and to cutout the nighttime snacking. That's the killer - snacking after dinner. It's my most stressful time of day when I'm trying to get everything done and ready for the next day. I'm making lunches and helping kids with homework as they sit at the kitchen table and some nights it seems I never get out of the kitchen! Ah! I was walking a mile every night for the first 7 months of the year which helped A LOT because it gave me a little extra cardio AND more importantly got me out of the kitchen!

Sorry to hear you had to get rid of Mace.:-( Sounds like it was the right decision at the time.

Laurie - Hey, Slacker! LOL ;-) Enjoy your rest day - it's well-earned.:) Yes, I'm bummed she's not doing the boxing workouts.:-( :-( I'm sure people will be complaining about her not keeping her word. I can't blame her though. .. she announced those plans so long ago and I'm sure what's happening in the market and new technology affects her plans. I'm just not keen on following a 6 month program. I got bored doing P90X for 12 weeks! (Actually, I think I only did 8.) I know the premixes will make the workouts seem a little different but not THAT different. I hate to sound so negative off the bat but that was my honest initial reaction. Maybe I'll change my mind. Maybe there's a shorter program you can do.

Karen - I understand what you're asking :) and you're right. If I knew every class was going to be intense like last Friday's I wouldn't be interested in any more classes. It sounds like the kickbox class is meant to be more of a workout vs. my regular class where they focus on teaching new skills. The only problem with the kickboxing class is that it's late - 8:15 - 9 which means I wouldn't get home until almost 9:30. I try to be in bed by 9:30 so I can get up at 4:30-4:45 and I know I wouldn't be able to go straight to bed when I got home. One of the instructors did mention that if the class becomes popular they may add more classes. Keeping my fingers crossed that they do and it's earlier.

Susan - So are you thinking of getting CC now? Seeing as how I now have a hot guy to use as my mental image, I may have to give Coach Sean a try! LOL I could use it when I got to the Y (which I'm always telling myself I should do on Saturday mornings).

Did KenpoX this morning. Fun.:) Some of the moves remind me of things we do at the Dojo (sword/hammer move, upper blocks)

Sue

Sue, expand on all this new workout love you're expressing! Boxing? KenpoX? A bag? What is all this exactly? I've heard of Kenpo but have no idea really what it is.

It sounds like you have a good plan in place now--getting out of the house during your biggest temptation time is a great idea. So why'd you stop that? I'll tell you, I hate walking Sammy in this weather, and it's only going to get worse. It takes so long to get bundled up to go out lol. That's nice that you have a weight loss thingy at work; sometimes I miss having coworkers around all the time (very few sometimes lol).

I REALLY need to find someone to come and look at my elliptical. It's shocking how many calories I can burn on the one at the gym in a short time. Usually about 10 calories a minute, so if I could just run down to my garage and do 15 minutes twice a day, that would be an extra 300 calories a day burned. My E hasn't worked since I moved last May. When I got it, I knew right away that it was a little "off"----I had to jiggle the power cord a certain way and then tape it there to get it to work. So it's electrical I think? But I can't wiggle it back to the right place somehow. :( I miss it!! I just don't know who to even call to look at it.

Jill - Mosquitos. That's why I stopped walking! Or maybe that was my excuse.;-) Actually, it was a combination of going on vacation and breaking my streak, starting Tae Kwon Do at American Dojo (what I usually refer to as Dojo for short), and being too busy to fit it in every night. The mosquitos have been gone for awhile now though so I'll try to go more often. Don't know about going every night though. I don't mind the cold - it makes me walk faster! As long as I'm bundled up I'm okay.

So anyway, Dojo, Kickbox and KenpoX . . . Let me start with the easiest one - KenpoX is a P90X workout. You've probably seen the Tony Horton infomercials on TV. Same program. KenpoX is the kickboxing workout with basic kicks, punches, blocks, combos - very straightforward, 25 reps of most moves and not a lot of other cardio moves. You get a few "rests" where you run in place and do jumping jacks but that's it. There's also PlyoX, YogaX, StretchX, CardioX and weight workouts. It's a different method of weight training where you go at your own pace and aim for failure each and every time so heavier weights. Tons of pushups and pullups (which I substituted with barbell rows since I don't have a pullup bar).

As for Dojo, the whole family joined American Dojo in August. We thought for a long time about signing up the kids and then found out it didn't cost extra for DH and I to join as well. Later found out there are extra costs like sparring gear for DH and me that wasn't included in our package. (The kids sparring gear was.) Anyway, we go 2 times a week - usually Tuesdays and Fridays. Recently, we graduated to a yellow belt. The kids were actually a high green belt through an afterschool program through a Mukwonago dojo and they keep talking about evaluating them to see what belt they should be but that hasn't happened yet. I'm pretty sure we'd have to pay for any belts they skip anyway. Anyway, the workouts vary a lot. Every class is different. This is good because it keeps everyone interested. We usually start out with some kind of a warmup, stretching, practicing moves or doing drills and then finish with Hapkido. Sometimes we do light contact sparring. I don't like sparring. I do better when someone choreographs my moves or tells me what to do. Some days I sweat a lot; other days I hardly sweat at all. I never count it as my workout that day because I never know how hard we'll be working.

Our Dojo recently started a Kickboxing class on Mondays and Wednesdays 8:15 - 9 p.m. It sounds like mostly cardio and less instruction than in the Basics classes we attend. I don't believe they're open to the general public, if I have to pay extra (it was mentioned classes were free until Nov. 19), or if you have to wear your uniform like in class. I'm hoping not - those uniforms really make me sweat when they do work us hard.

Sometimes we use the kickboxing bag at Dojo and it is FUN! I can order one thru them and get free shipping so DH and I have decided this will be a family Christmas present. :7 Just make sure you don't kick on the same side of the bag as someone else or you'll feel a real "special" kind of pain.x( (I did that one night - felt like I broke my foot.)

That sums it up in a nutshell. Well, maybe a big nut! :+

Sue

Hi everybody! I am busy, busy trying to get everything ready to leave for the weekend! I am taking my resistance bands with me to do some pilates in the room. The hotel also has a nice 24 hour fitness center so I might wake up early tomorrow and jump on their elliptical!

I hope you all have fun weekends! I'll be in Racine! See you Monday!

Susan

Good Morning,

Today I am doing 4DS upper body premix. Yesterday I ended up doing BC/KB 4DS. I guess I'll have to add some abs on today too.

So, what do you all have planned for the weekend?

Susan, have a great time in Racine. What are you going there for. I don't recall, but then again my memory is not very good any more.

DH and sons are setting up their stands for deer hunting and practicing shooting this weekend. DS9 has basketball practice and the girls and I will just be here.

Have a great day.

Good morning Badger women!

Yesterday was going to be a rest day. I haven't taken one in over a week so I didn't feel guilty. I was just too busy with work to go to the gym, and then grocery shopping after that. I got home at 5:20 and realized I could go to the night weight class at the gym. So I went. So much for the rest day!! It was really tough---reminded me of a Firm workout kinda, a lot of moving weight work so the heart was really pumping. I'm a little sore this morning (quads, tris, and lats) and I'm expecting it to be worse tomorrow. It was the first class I went to and I wasn't expecting it to be that hard, but I loved it. There was only me, another woman, and her husband. Almost like a personal training session lol. I'll definitely be going every Tues and Thur I think. It will give me more cardio time during the day there on Mon/Wed/Fri. I'll have to figure out a way to do weights at home on Sat. or Sun. The issue is where to store the weights.

Sue, sounds like you are really loving the boxing. How cool that your whole family goes!! What a great thing to do together. LOL @ quitting walking cuz of mosquitoes. I guess that's a pretty good reason. No point in getting West Nile virus!

Susan, (in case you see this) you're going somewhere in Racine for vacation? Where to? A hotel with a fitness center-what a dream. :) I am going to St. Louis for 5-6 days after Christmas and need to get my crap together. We don't even have a hotel yet (staying with relatives in Columbia 26-28, and then hotel in St. Louis for a few nights). I hope I can find one with a fitness center.

Karen, it's funny to hear you talk about your guys getting ready for hunting. My oldest is a hunter, but he doesn't like gun, just bow. So his hunting days are pretty much already older. He's a wuss; he doesn't like sitting in that tree stand when it gets cold lol. He just turned 18 and has been hunting since he legally could after the classes and still has never got a deer. LOL Poor kid.

So today I'm going to the gym for just cardio. I might have to settle for just the TM since my legs are probably going to be screaming at me if I am on the elliptical. I'll have to see how they feel then.

Have a great Friday!

Hey there, I am in my best friends wedding tomorrow, that's why I am going to Racine! We're staying at the Marriott(reception is there as well).

Bye for now! Susan

Morning BB's,

My workout today is BBC Shoulders & Back / CTX 10-10-10 / Total Body Stretching Basic. Saturday will be Tae Bo Advanced Live #1. Sunday is BBC Arms & Abs / Cardio Coach #1 Revised.

I have Monday off of work for Veterans Day, so I have a three day weekend ahead of me. :D Plan on getting Cami groomed on Monday. Wonder how she will like that. :D DH has to work on Saturday, so I'm thinking of taking the DD's shopping. I need to get some new sweat pants. Most of the ones that I have are full of holes and soooo out of style. :7 Need to look good while walking the dog in the morning and after work. :7 :7 Plus the DD's have some gift certificates that they have been wanting to spend. Also need to get a new pair of running shoes. Of course the DD's will love going shoe shopping. :7 Oh and that reminds me that we all need to get new snow boots. Oh I will be spending money this weekend. :7 :7

Waving to Susan as she rides by on her way to Racine. :) Have a great time at the wedding.

Sue, I hope that she still has plans to do her Boxing workouts. I think there is a high interest in them. The one thing that I like about the new workouts is that you are not doing the same workouts all the time. That is the one thing that I feel makes P90X so hard to finish.

Jill, I just started getting into the Cardio Coaches this year. So many people where raving about how it helped increase their times. And of course he has such a nice voice to listen too. :D To me the time on the TM goes by a lot faster working out this way. You know I haven't noticed the music tempo too much. Maybe because I have just started working out with them.

Karen, It is very easy to make excuses not to work out after work. But I just can't get up any earlier than 5am in the morning. Walking the dog is hard enough at that time. It has become a ritural in our house that Mom walks the dog right when I get home, then I head into the basement to workout. DO NOT DISURB is the motto in our house for that hour of the day. Of course it does help that the DD's are old enough to not need as much help with their homework as they did when they where smaller. Then I was working out at 9pm. Now that was hard.

Have a great weekend!

Laurie

Laurie, lucky you to have a 3-day weekend! I'm jealous. :)
I gave Sammy her first bath and it wasn't fun. She was scared, even though she loves water usually (lake). And she was really afraid of the hair dryer, but I had to use it at least a little cuz she was so wet. I think I will take her to someone to do this in the future. I don't want my drain all clogged up with hair and it's a pita.

I went to the gym like a good girl and did my cardio. My legs are getting worse by the hour. Now I can add my butt to the sore muscles list lol.

No plans for me this weekend; catching up on housecleaning, exercising, walking Sammy, and putting together a new cabinet I bought is it for me.

I miss my bosu! I bought it from Marie, which is how I met all of you ladies to begin with if I remember right. It somehow separated from the base and then got a hole in it, so I had to throw it out. Now I really miss it and wish I had it. I just looked on ebay and they are more expensive there than if I go to Sportmart. Geez. Guess I'll live without it for awhile longer.......

Have a great weekend everyone!
Jill

Hi, Jill!

Check the OD forum because I remember someone posting a link recently on a cheaper (and smaller) version of a Bosu. If you don't need a full-size one it won't cost as much money. I'd think that would be small enough to do cardio somewhere in your condo. Is that what you're thinking of?

Sue

Yes Sue I would have to make room here. Not easy. I'll look over there, thanks. I really liked it a lot, but it is very big. Maybe a smaller one would do the job.:)

Oops I somehow got a double post.

I just read something about a balance disc and an xerdisc on VF. I'll have to check it out-they're at Target.

I had an offsite meeting this morning and they fed us a wonderful lunch :9 so I didn't get to checkin sooner. . .

Susan - Have fun at your wedding! You probably won't see this though - oops!

Did Butts and Gutts Leg Blast this morning so my legs and butt will be sore just like Jill's tomorrow. :D

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Sorry so short - gotta run!

Sue
