Broken Step Top

I just noticed this morning that the underside of my step top has developed a few cracks. I purchased the step probably 2 years ago.

Has anyone out there had a similar problem? How often should a step be replaced?

Thanks!

Melanie

I have no idea how long a step lasts.
I've had mine for at least 12 years with no problem (but I don't use it regularly, and I don't do that much impact on it.)
How long it lasts may depend on the impact and the weight of the user. Also, like many things, a step topper made 2 years ago might not be the same quality as one made earlier.

When it should be replaced really just depends on its condition.

I've lost count on how long I've had mine. It has to be at least 12 years. I have the longer original step club step, and it's still going strong. I use it regularly, but not daily. You don't mention what kind of step you have but I would think the original club step should last longer then two years.

The specs on the step and it mentions it supports up to 200 pounds.

Either way I would suggest you contact the manufacturer and let them know what happened, if it's still under warranty they may replace it. I have had pretty good luck when working directly with manufacturers. According to Amazon it's only 90 days but it's still usually worth a simple email.

I got my step when my daughter was about 4 months old. She's 16 and a half now, so I've had it for over 16 years. I DO do high impact on it, and I'm not lightweight at 5'10. So, if it's an original Step - I would write them demanding an explanation. Those things are pricey (although if mine went now, I would be okay with purchasing another one).

ITA that it's not normal to see a crack after only 2 years. I have a Reebok step that I bought in 1990 and the only thing that is wearing out are the letters (it's now a Peebok). I use it regularly.

Thanks everyone for your input. I purchased the step in Canada - I'm pretty sure its the original step - it has a green top and purple risers. I'll have to check to see if I kept the receipt. I probably didn't, as I didn't expect I would be having this problem.

I use the step almost daily, but at 135 pounds, I don't think its my weight causing the problem.

Its so frustrating trying to find decent workout equipment in Canada. I think if I want a better quality step, I'll have to order from Cathe's store, because the step she sells on her website is not available where I live.

Anyways, thanks again for your input.
