Broken Kneecap

I swear, if its not one thing, its another. I had knee surgery the end of last summer, and things were going along just ducky til last Sunday/Monday, when I developed a sharp pain in the front of my kneecap, about knocked me down it hurt so bad. Called the orthopedist back, and was finally able to get in today, apparently I have fractured my patella!! How the heck??!?!?! So he put me in some medieval torture device straight legged traction thingy that I can only take off to shower or take a bath. I am supposed to go next week for an MRI and see if there's anything else going on in there as he said my kneecap also looks out of place. Won't know anything further til I go back to the Dr after the MRI. But no Cathe for me for like 10 days til I go back. I'm NOT a happy camper. I guess I'll just be hobbling the dog around the block alot. I plan to drown my sorrows in a glass or 2 of wine tonight, then extra clean eating to compensate for sitting on my booty so much more.

Ahh, that really sucks! I am so sorry, I understand completely how you feel!x( I broke my silly foot a few years back falling down stairs and was in a boot forever it seemed! I still did my kickbox workouts--in the boot, you better believe it-much to my doc's dismay, it healed fine, but I would not recommend doing too much too soon.

Take this time to enjoy the wine, a good book, bad reality TV and exist on proteins and salads (so you can still enjoy the wine without gaining right?:7 ) Get better soon!

On a more self absorbed note, I go into surgery on the 10th of July for a hip replacementx( at the tender age of 41. Ick, I will be outta commission for 6 long weeks. I am already mentally preparing myself for this, I know how you feel!

>Yikes! Sorry to hear about your knee. Do you know how it

Don't have a clue what I did. Dr said on the Xray looks like a stress fracture. But when I had a pre-surgery MRI last summer, my whole knee cap was one big bruise, so also said that may have not healed all the way, and caused more probs, and led to a fracture. Hence, the MRI next week to see what the underlying issue is. I feel kinda silly, though. I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone in the Mafia, and I still have a busted kneecap!!!

Nan, so sorry to hear about this. I hope your healing process is fast. I can only imagine the frustration you must be feeling. I had oral surgery on Friday and I'm not allowed to exercise this weekend and I'm actually contemplating breaking the rules!

Please keep us posted.

Nan, take care of yourself and be careful! I've had minor knee problems in the past, and even those take forever to heal.

Just a thought. It sounds like you have no idea how you fractured your patella. Could it be something along the line of a stress fracture that finally turned into a regular break?

This is naturally on my mind, since I've been dealing with a stress fracture in my shin for a while now, which I'm fairly sure is caused by doing high impact on concrete slab. Maybe you should re-evaluate your workouts. I sure have!
