breast pump

With DD#1 I used the Avent hand pump. I really liked it, but I can't compare it to the other brands/styles on the market, 'cause I didn't use them. I plan to use my Avent pump again this time around.

From what I've seen, women generally can get more milk from an electric pump than a hand pump.

Cheers,
Sandra

I have the Medela Pump in Style, and I always liked it. It's electric and a "double" unit (both sides at once) so it was time-efficient. But Like Sandra, I never used anything else so I can't offer a comparison.

I'll be dusting it off again soon!

Hi! I have the Medella Pump in Style, I have no complaints about it! IT has come in very handy on a number of occasionas when I had to pump. It also comes with a battery pack so you can take it anywhere with you. the only drawback is that it is bigger than manual ones, but it does come in a nice bag.

I have both the PIS and Avent pumps. Love them both. I used them for different things. FOr being at work, going out, or "pumping and dumping" after cocktails, I used the PIS. If you plan to pump regularly, the PIS or similar electric pump seems like a much better choice. It's pretty easy, you pump on both sides, and takes about 10 minutes. If you use Avent bottles, there is an adapter so you can pump straight from the PIS to an Avent bottle.

However, for occational pumping, the ISIS would work fine. You can only pump on one side, and to "empty" both sides would take longer than the electric pump. For me, I used it on "one side" while baby nursed on the other. This way, I got a lot of extra milk for bottles. It is MUCH smaller and could fit into a large purse; the PIS is a purse unto itself!

I would get the ISIS first for when baby is first born; it's perfect to relieve engorgement, etc. If you find pumping is for you, go for the PIS.

I can't reccomend but I have a Medela manual pump that I got for nothing. A friend of the family never ended up using hers but had opened it so she couldn't return it. I'm gonna see how that works out for me...if it's not enough I'll invest in an electric pump down the line...

I used two after I had Miss Sydney, but I can not remember the brands. One DH picked up at Walmart (it was not Medella)... desperate times call for desperate measures. I bought the Medella Pump in Style after Jordy Bug was born. No complaints. I have one of those manual pumps, I should donate it. If I can just find it.... :)

Medela Pump In Style. Loved it. I will use it again. I 100% bf'd despite the fact I worked 30+ hrs/week. You will NOT be dissapointed. Plus, if it doesn't workout you can sell it for at least 1/2 of what you paid for it. ;)

Medela Pump In Style! I used it for my my 2 sons, passed it on to my sister-in-law (she used it for her 4 kids) then, she passed it on to my other sister-in-law for her to use. I hope I get it back! I think it still works after all of these years!

Jeepers, I don't know about Sunnydelite, but you all are convincing me to buy the Medela PIS!! LOL!

I used the Advent for my first two daughters and it worked great. My only issue was that I was losing milk from the other side while I pumped one side.

With my son (now 3 mos. old), I used a friend's PIS and it's a godsend. I could just sit there and relax while the pump does ALL the work.

If this is your first, I highly recommend investing in one. I might have nursed longer with the first two, had I owned the PIS. Good luck!

I have only used the Avent and it worked well and was fine for me since I didn't pump regularly. But, geez, I am almost convinced I need one of these Medela pumps too. Anyone know who has the best price?

oh, i am definitely convinced. i also asked the same question on another board and received the same answers.
check ebay...i've checked around and so far seems like that is the best way to go..that is if someone else doesn't purchase for you.:)

I have heard the exact same thing about the Medela breast pump-that it is the best. My MIL told me to register for it but I can not imagine having that on the list!

A co-worker of DH offered to let me use hers-actually have it since she is done having children-but I am not sure how I feel about that either. I thought it was one of those things you would want to buy new.

I saw it at Babies 'r Us for $299.99.

I don't see a problem with that being on your registry. Give it a try!

I did have some concerns about borrowing someone else's breast pump, but they were gone when I saw how it worked. The milk doesn't go through the hoses or the machine. It goes straight into the bottle. You can order new parts online if you're still not comfortable.

Good luck!

I'd borrow your friends if you can. That way you can see if you like it or not. Like mentioned before, the milk doesn't go thru tubing. So as long as you sterilize the phlanges & the milk collectors (the bottles) you'd be good to go.
Most hospitals actually rent them for about $40/month. The make you buy the tubing & bottles for it--about $40 to buy. These pumps are good for 10-15 moms. The Medela pump you buy is advertised for up to 3 kids. I don't know, maybe it'd last longer.
Not sure if this info helps or not...
